Turkish and Greek Football Clubs

If you play for one of the big Clubs ( Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, AEK or Olympiakos) in either country, you are a celebrity, and treated like a film star. Josh is likely to be followed wherever he goes, find it difficult to find any privacy, and will be told by every male he meets, that his beautiful sister is his No1 fan and he he should come home and meet her. Women will tell him directly that THEY are his No 1 fan. It may sound wonderful, but after a while, it becomes oppressive. Good luck with it Josh ‘cos it sure as hell beats Nottingham.

I found it the same and I was only there on holiday.

He'll be ok .... He looks like one of the sisters who will supposidly be his No1 fan. They could swap headbands and do each others hair .
Actually some right shit holes in Greece but he's been to Preston and Burnley so he'll be used to it .

I recall the time that Vidic from Man Utd was holidaying on Thassos and when the Greeks found out, he couldn't go anywhere without being hounded to death. 🙁

mmm...here's a thought. I'm actually in Athens on September 11th when Olympiakos are at home. Could pop along and watch Bowler play.
It’s worth a visit. I regularly sailed in and out of Piraeus and managed to get to an Olympiacos game. Ticket was about €6 on the day. Athens can be quite lovely - Piraeus however is not !! Dangerous city so keep your wits about you. I did however find the fans friendly once they knew I was supporting them !

I lived in Athens in the 90s and regularly went to Panathinaikos home and away. If you can make a big Athens derby you will enjoy a cracking atmosphere. I sometimes wore a Blackpool shirt and was made very welcome however there used to be serious trouble on occasions.

I remember as a kid being on holiday in London when it was the European Cup Final (Ajax vs Panathinaikos) at Wembley and the hotel was full of Greek fans. They were a loud but friendly bunch and I remember one of them giving me his Panathinaikos scarf the morning after the game, wonder what happened to it

Yep cheers, been there before along time ago and have seen how rough Piraeus is. The ground is very close to the docks. I'd like to perhaps do it but being with the missus chances are it's unlikely. It was a nice fleeting thought though.

You can see the ground from the Acropolis. South of the port the coastal area is supposed to be very nice and where the Athenians go at the weekend.

I currently live in Palaio Faliro, the so called ‘riviera of Athens’. It’s big Olympiakos territory around here, the ground is visible very close just beyond the marina where I often take my little one for a stroll.

My Greek neighbors are well aware of my affinity, they love the championship. We often talk football and you should hear the way they pronounce ‘HHXAddersfield’.

I’ll keep an eye on Josh, don’t worry. 😉

Yes you’re our man on the ground 😀

Sounds wonderful by the way …
