Turton to Huddersfield

Bit of a headscratcher, maybe he backs himself after his improvement this year, but I'm not sure they'll squeeze more out of him than we could.

Huddersfield have slashed their wage bill with the players they released and appear to be cutting their cloth now.

Good move for him, questionable move for Huddersfield - he’s been proving people wrong ever since he joined us though so who knows

let’s hope we can find ourselves another Mr Reliable - Gabriel anyone?

Good luck to the lad but I thought we'd struggle with him at right back and then he goes and signs for another Championship club.
Strange world.

If a post on here from a couple of months ago with players salaries is to be believed, wasn't he was bottom of the pile by a fair way, probably as a legacy of a contract he signed under the previous regime. No doubt him and his agent hedged their bets in advance of us going up. Cant fault him for this season, good luck to him. I had a fiver on him to score at Oxford at 16/1 !!!

I've said all season he was a squad player at best. Yes, he's done a good job latterly but it's League One.

If we want to compete at the next level and not simply survive we have to get better in his position.

To be honest, I'd say the same about James Husband.

Constantly seeing people knocking Turton down by saying he’s not good enough for Championship.

How much difference is there between the bottom half of the championship and the top of league one? Not much I reckon and Turton has been one of the most consistent performers for the league one play off winners

Good luck to him, he’ll do alright.

I don't expect us to be in the bottom half of the Championship but we will be if we set Ollie Turton as the benchmark.

I agree. Turts would probably have just got my vote above Hubby but great teams are built around good full backs and I don't think either are quite good enough for the Championship.
However I wish Turts all the best. He's been a great servant.

He signed his latest contract last year.

For me, any player who is a regular in league one’s best defence is good enough to be part of their squad the following year in the championship. Which is why he was offered a contract. Because he’s good enough.
There's offering a contract and offering a contract. Surely you figured that out when Karl was running things? 😉

His agent has performance a miracle here. Absolutely shocked he's got anything above L1 level. Great for us second half of last season but we can do better.

£800 per week apparently.
Derisory!
Dont blame him for getting the best deal he can in his later years.
Good luck to him, gutted hes gone

Completely agree. Both players that never quite convinced me, then massively proved me wrong and ended up convincing me....

That they are good L1 players

I'm surprised to see him go, but wish him well. It seems like a good move for him.

No RBs at the club now. When can we start panicking?

He did a very commendable job for us last season and gave his all in every match, looks like even after his Huddersfield move was sorted, so thanks Ollie and all the best.

This might sound harsh, but I am more optimistic about the calibre of players we’ll be bringing in if we haven't offered him an acceptable package.

Looking at Huddersfield’s signings, I’d be very underwhelmed with who they’ve brought in so far, all looking for a last pay check, I actually think that’s a club we’ll finish higher than next season.

I’m sure we offered him the best package we could on the assumption we would use him as a regular but not guaranteed starter in L1 or backup in the Championship, hedging our bets at the time of course, and maybe would have matched Huds offer if we had the benefit of knowing which league we would be in. But even if he goes to Huds to be 3rd choice RB he will be earning more than he would have as our 2nd choice RB, that’s just a product of their recent history compared to ours and if we stay in the division for a couple of years that difference will dwindle away.

Good luck to Turton. He played as well as could be expected this season and it's got him a move up the ladder.

I imagine Critchley's idea of a full-back is more TAA/Robertson than Trippier/Wan-Bosaka and that's the type of player we're likely to see as a replacement.

I'd be disappointed if we were bringing in Jordan Rhodes and Olly Turton as new signings.

That’s my point, we seem to be a lot more diligent in where we choose to spend our transfer/wage budget.

For me, he’s done extremely well to get that move but I have a feeling he’ll be playing league 1 football for them in a season or two.

How many of our last promotion squad ended up in the Prem pulling up trees every week.
Our promotion this season and the way Critch and the team went about it goes to show what a rubbish load of soothsayer n pundits we are anyway

Who's going to be your, 'Turts' next season Kurt?
You never know you might end up grudgingly liking em all 😉

Not about liking or disliking. His stats in the first half of the season compared to second half justify what I was going on about. He was very poor.

And irrespective. I don't rate him. And he's had a ** miracle getting a contract at Huddersfield. I hope it sets him up for life but I see we can do far far better.

Im another who wishes him well, a good pro abd a solid league one player
I did say on the way back from Wembley that he is one we need to replace and he should go and be a great clubman at an average league one club like Shrewsbury or back to Crewe
Hes swam the channel getting a contact at a championship club, good luck and best wishes

Very poor?
He started 41 games, so doubt Critchley & most on here agree!
He was our most consistent starter, in other positions too & on lowest wage £800 per week apparently!

Ps who will you pick on next season??

Not picking on anyone. He was absolutely shite before Christmas. Who will you furiously wank over next season? If Turton was that good, he wouldn't have left. It's as simple as that.

One dimensional and that might work in League One but it won't in the Championship. As long as he secures his future and earns a good wage, we've done well for him. We can move on now.

Good luck Ollie Turton. Has served our club well. I wish we had been able to keep him, but not to be. He and we move on.
