Turton to Huddersfield

I wish him luck, but kind of leaves a sour taste in the mouth he obviously didn’t get the contract he wanted last season, but he got the contract he deserved at the time . Critch made him a much better player, then he jumps ship at the first opportunity my view for what it’s worth.

Oh I thought we would have kept him, he's been a solid asset for us, I've not read this board today as I've been busy so I have to assume we've someone lined up. I hope he does well.

I'm neither gutted nor pleased Turton has left. I'm pleased for him that he's landed a good contract in the Championship. He's served us well. In my opinion some of the negative stuff about him is uncalled for, and over the top and wrong. Critch favoured him over Gabriel, for a good reason. Critch wants different kind of full back, and I think we will get different and better, but Turton has done a sound job for us. Good luck Ollie, and all the best, and thanks for your contribution.

He was great this season and the type of player you need in the squad, reliable. Every single player can't be a world beater but a player that puts a decent performance every game over an entire season helps you get promoted just as much.

I'm certainly not heartbroken that Ollie Turton will no longer play in Tangerine, I would have liked him to have stayed I suppose but its one of them. He has my thanks for a great season and aiding us in getting promoted, good job Kenny Dougall saved his skin at Wembley or this would have been a different kinda thread!

We did keep him...He declined the offer...He wasn't my favourite and I believe we can do better but good luck to the lad...your not a footballer for life so securing a better contract for himself and his family is the way to go.

I would of been happy with him in the 25 man squad but was hoping, he wouldn’t of been in our best starting 11. That will apply to one or two others too, if we are to establish ourselves as a championship club, as we would all like.
That said I think we need to evolve not just change. With losing 6 of our best 18 players plus 4 more of that 18 yet to agree terms, we definitely have a lot of work to do, but that is to be expected.
Thanks to him and any other of the contributing departees, very grateful for all their hard work and success but now look forward to our next step of progression in our attempt to establish ourselves in the second tier where I hope we belong. 🍊⚽😁👍

This is a disappointing departure and one that could have been avoided I suspect with the promise of a good deal. If the figures quoted on here (£800pw) are correct, it's a disgrace for a player of his calibre. He would have been a valuable squad player next season, and versatile players like him are difficult to replace. This is a retrograde step that needs to be quickly remedied.

Good luck to Turton. He played as well as could be expected this season and it's got him a move up the ladder.

I imagine Critchley's idea of a full-back is more TAA/Robertson than Trippier/Wan-Bosaka and that's the type of player we're likely to see as a replacement.

I'd be disappointed if we were bringing in Jordan Rhodes and Olly Turton as new signings.
Can’t agree more about JR l would be gutted if we had signed him, that would show a total lack of ambition!

It is disappointing and I’m sure NC would have wanted to keep him, but Ollie must have made his own decision weeks ago to leave and secure a better deal at Huddersfield.

Agree with tangerine bayern ,looks like ollie wanted a better contract than maybe we offered or he knew he wouldnt be first choice so decided to move ,players come and go so lets wait and see we wont all agree with or want some of the new signings that critch will get in,but we have to trust his judgment, and he,s not done to badly so far, looking forward to the summer and next season bring it on ,utmp

Thanks “Olly”. You’ve been a good servant to our club. More plus than minus.
You are joining the club of my in-laws: will be careful with my assessment.

However, I hope your replacement is faster, stronger and can spin some good crosses in to our onrushing Jerry. (A bonus if he’s 6ft+ too.)

Scored a crucial goal against Oxford and defended great in the final after the disastrous 1st minute. Didnt fold and played really well. Turton and Husband played very well in the final. Good re watching it. Easy to see Yates and Douglas were great, but a few others had great games.

Something must have prompted that decision. If he firmly believed that Blackpool would not get promoted, then Huddersfield would have been a great option for him, and Critch would not have been able to do anything. More likely though is that he did not get the contractual reassurances he was seeking from Critch, which is why I believe that this is an opportunity missed. On the flip side his demands might have been unreasonable, but to be honest, he doesn't seem that sort.

Lads, we didn't lose Cafu or Kyle Walker. Very limited player. Who gave his all.

There are hundreds of better right backs out there.

Wonder what he is now thinking with Hubs, Garbutt and probably Madine joining. Think he was in the Manchester Car School - new club, new manager, no feel good and probably a lot of pressure. Think he might be kicking himself!

I wouldn't think so. I imagine he's got significantly more money than he would have here, given Hudders parachute payments, plus a decent signing on fee as he was a free agent. At his age, and with his stock as high as its ever been, while I imagine on the same pay-day he'd have probably stayed, I doubt that would have happened and he probably made the right decision for him and his family.

I hope he does well and leads Huddersfield to a runners up spot :)
