Vacuum Cleaners

This has to be possibly the least rock n roll post I’ve ever made, however here goes….

My Vax vacuum cleaner just went pop. It’s dead. So, should I just get the same one again at £78 or should I be spending £300 on a Shark one?

I had Dyson in the past but didn’t really notice the difference between them and the Vax I bought 3 years ago.

I’m also aware some of you will not know what any of this list will even mean 😉

We bought a Shark a few years ago after having a Dyson for 7 years, it's decent enough but performance has definitely started to deteriorate quicker than the Dyson did.

Obviously they're brilliant at first but I'm convinced people are impressed with them as they're comparing a brand new Shark with a hoover several years old that's deteriorated over time.

Basically a Henry- cheap and easy to repair. A absolute workhorse. Used by various industry professionals.
If you want a Rolls Royce, get a Miele.

Another vote for Henry, although ours seems to trip over a lot, and get stuck behind things at the slightest opportunity.
Also ejects his hose from time to time as well.
I guess he might be an early model!

Surely your cleaner has their own.

There's a reason why most cleaners use a Henry - no point paying big bucks for the likes of Dyson - plus James Dyson is a grade 1 **.

I've had Miele, Shark and Dyson and Henry wins.

Our Shark didn't last, motor went, Dysons never do, Bosch batteries didn't last 9 months. Currently have a Miele, good so far after 2.5 years. We are hard on them due to our now passed Golden Retriever.

Use a Henry at work, real workhorse, gets knackered and is replaced, quarter of the price of Miele.

We have an upright Vax, and our previous one was the same. They've both lasted for years, are adequate for most jobs, and are cheap.

Had Dysons in the past, and don't think they're worth the money. Also don't like how James Dyson treated his work force in this country.

I’ve had a Shark for a good 2 years now. No complaints at all. Never had a Dyson though.

As for will it be better than a basic Hoover type, undoubtedly 👍

Chunky, we had a VAX pack up. Phoned VAX and they suggested buying a new one as a repair was not ecomomical. A quick search revealed sometimes it is just when the belt fails and the unit goes into "buy a new one mode". Found a belt for a few quid and managed a reasonably quick swop.

had a cordless Dyson for about six years which has just packed up. Went into Currys and overheard the salesman telling another customer that the plastic now used on Dysons is much cheaper and brittle than it used to be so that put me of getting another. Ended up getting a Vax, which we've had about a couple of weeks now. Seems a bit heavier than a Dyson but easier to move around. Have got a Henry which we use for the cars.

I’ve had a Shark for nearly five years which is great (especially the swivelling head!) and it’s needed a couple of new parts in that time but they’ve replaced them immediately, no probs as it’s got a five year guarantee. Got a Henry too but that’s more for stairs and cars. Just bought a new Sebo (German brand) for dad to replace the one he had for over 30 years and that’s brilliant …

It’s a knack thing. I experienced the same at first. The tripping up thing is largely down to a sharp sudden tug, so less tugging and more of a gentle pull. Guide it slowly through the opening and this will prevent it getting stuck. The ejection of the hose means it needs screwing tightly.

Yes fair enough. I know I am not the most patient hoovering operative.

Why am I reading this in Swiss Toni’s voice?

Bought a wet and dry builders one from b & q for £40. No marketing no brand name. Missus says its best one she has had, obviously I've never used it!!

If your missus can do the whole house with it, you must have a pretty long chain on the kitchen sink 😂🤣😳

Dyson cordless. Does the job. No idea about other makes. Main improvement from previous cleaner is cordless. A lot quicker. Same with lawnmower.(Bosch).

Depends if you live on the prom, a Shark is great for clearing the beach

Take a break from the vacuuming….. and do some ironing instead 😜

I have a Henry hoover and also a vax platinum hoover( superb carpet cleaner (£250) worth every penny. Also have a bag less vax hoover paid around £300 and have had it years with no issues.
