Value of Bowler

I know we've only got a short time left with his contract but as there seems to be a few interested parties, this 2.5 million figure we hear of in the climate we're in seems like a bit of a #iss take? I'd rather keep him obviously, and if we say NO a bit louder towards the window ending will we get maybe double? I'd sooner he stay, earn us a few more points, let him go end of contract for nothing, but I'm not Sadler. I understand that it's business, but can we demand more £?

You, the Club, supporters and the Player are all potential losers in this crazy cat & mouse game of chasing the Premiumship money

Wereally need him to stay — we can achieve a lot this season with him, rather than he warming (or not) the bench somewhere richer than us, not playing a full role else where.

Ultimately, no—one but he has the final say
, but I Know the grass isn’t always greener but alas the pay packets
/ temptations will eventually be

I hope he will seriously consider signing a new contract— that would put all in a richer position at the Seaside and he might staycation least to go all aroundthe same wheel of Fortune January

It is a massive decision for the Chairman but I say hold your nerve and make a few of us smile a lotlongwr

Bowler has already said he wants to play at a higher level so I honestly can’t see him staying with us unfortunately. I’d love him to stay but I can’t see it
I’d keep him till January and then Take the fee even if only 2 million we got him for nothing so anything is a bonus

Keep him at all costs and let’s enjoy seeing him play this season. Maybe let him go in January if we look safe but keep him if in with a chance of top 6.
£2.5 million is a joke!

The club has the final say as it holds his contract

Should keep him for this season it shouldn't even be up for debate

I'm sure he would be professional to keep playing at his high standard knowing that next summer he can get his big move

I think most players "want to play at a higher level", but it's not up to them. It's up to the scouts and the market for players like him.

For me, Bowler is a stand-out Championship player; but the Premier League attracts the best attacking players in the world. In my opinion, until his reading of the game, positioning when on the defence, and decision making when moving forward improves, then he wouldn't make it in the PL.

I'm a huge Bowler fan. I think he's exciting and a wonderful part of our play. But I don't think he's PL quality. As other posters have mentioned, we may see him move at Christmas to another Championship slub to bolster their promotion push (similar to Forest last term).

I don't know if he has a family or a partner, but for sure I can see him want to move to push up his wages (even if he just warms the bench at his destination club). But competition is brutal and I don't think he quite makes the grade.

His girlfriend was stood in front of me at Burnley, seemed a nice girl

It's would not be unrealistic for Forest to offer him 20k extra a week. If they do jb will push the club to sell. 340k more money + s/o fee, and that's before christmas.

If the bids are coming, he's going. Just hope the club are prepared.

What a class player Josh Bowler is. Would love to see him spend the rest of his career with us but would not be surprised if he went in the january window. Figures such as 1 and 2 million seem pitiful. Would imagine the club will be offered more than that for a developing quality player.

He can push all he likes, but ultimately it will be for the club to decide. If the deal looks right for them they'll say yes, and all JB has to do then is to agree personal terms. Given his contract is up next year the club aren't in the most powerful position, however they could decide to keep him a while longer and review in January, at which point their bargaining position would be further weakened of course. Nevertheless, I can't see them be bullied into submission at this moment in time.

Should not be accepting bids in the region of £2.5m for our best player. Can't get anything seismic any more with that kind of money. £5m+ or jog on and he can go free at the end of the season in my eyes.

He's worth 5 million plus......but we won't get anywhere near that as he has less than a year left. 2.5 million for a player we got on a free is good business if we can then sign a couple of players that add to the team. I don't want to see him go but our model is bring in young players, add value and sell on. Our other players of value have longer contracts. Who could see that Josh would have developed at the rate he has? Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if we could turn back the clock we'd offer him a 4 year contract when he signed.

If the player wants to go he'll get his way. If he expresses his wishes strongly enough.

Of course the fee has to be right and I would be amazed if JB and the club haven't had a conversation about what fee would be right.

People will cite Charlie Adam and keeping him when he wanted to go. I'd say that was KO trying to piss CA off and I'd give you James Quinn- for those who don't know he wanted a move and wasn't allowed and immediately suffered from Quinnitis, a mystery injury that couldn't be healed for ages until 2 weeks before he moved on. We would want a case of E-Bowler, which is possible.

The value of Bowler to us and his market value are possibly 2 different things. A bit like Barlaser at Rotherham, maybe it's worth letting him go for a free next summer if it means we get another season of performances like those at QPR and Burnley?

We're not troubling the play offs this season. It's going to be another attempt to try to reach 50+ points ASAP whilst starting to deal with 15 contracts provisionally coming to an end and the loans going back. A squad rebuild next summer that is going to need forward planning to negotiate if trying to do it from a championship base. And without being able to realise and reinvest the full value of the main asset in Josh Bowler to make that job easier.

So if he's going and he wants to go then they might have to take something rather than nothing in this window. And maybe hope they can deal with a club who'll throw one or two players into the deal to try to feel like everyone has made the best of a shit sandwich.

We got Gilks in the Hoolahan deal so worked out better than it might. Thanks to Karl's shrewd dealings. 👍

Bowler may feel he'd be better off staying here til next summer and then be able to negotiate directly with clubs himself? So we might get a situation where BM agrees a fee and JB turns down the move? Possibility anyway.

Yep but hopefully no 250k release clause involved and Gilks nearly giving up football because Grayson couldn't see the point of sub goalkeepers on a five man bench.

Absolutely fine by me if Bowler sees it out and remains fully committed as I'm a football fan not a finance man and it's not me who agreed a short contract with him. But probably have to be realistic that no player is going to want to make themselves out of work first before even starting to think about looking elsewhere. So minds can wander with having something else lined up and risk of injury etc
