Was anybody at fault for their goal?

Cant wait for the replays !!I was dreaming about the playoffs when they scored. All I really saw was Grimmy looking crestfallen. What a damp squid after a great Dembele goal

Just seen the highlights on TTV and JRs miss was the miss of the season it happens very rarely. Ekis OG was again one of those freak things when a player sticks a leg a leg out but Alfie May shouldn’t have been allowed to turn that easily, if any player was going to cause a problem it was him!

Ironic that a certain player lauded on here allowed Alfie May the freedom to turn in the box as easily as he did.
From therein a pinging ball in the box is a nightmare.
However I'm sure some would say just to leave the cross and try not to intercept it. It took two deflections for it to go in though.
On another day Jordan scored and the two that hit the woodwork go in, unfortunately it wasn't another day it was yesterday😒

Shot was going miles wide as well. Just bad luck.

You could blame CJ but that’s what happens when you play an attacking winger at wing back. Had enough chances to win. Played better than we did last week at Bristol Rovers and only drew. Footballs a bastard sometimes

I'd say CJ's defending was quite poor but the fact that he was defending against Charltons clear best player and biggest threat isn't really down to him. Just unfortunate I suppose.

I genuinely think we'd relaxed in to the game and were happy with the lead.
Fair play to May though who deserves better than Charlton.

Yeah the whole team for not taking their chances and effectively killing the game off!

I don't think either are playing well and both full of mistakes we can't afford to make. IMHO
tell me all about these "full of mistakes Marv made on saturday"? He pretty much won everything in the ait, got some blocks and tackles in and his passing was spot on because he never gave the ball away. I'd say that's playing pretty well. He was unfortunate for their goal which wasn't because of a mistake. Sure, that may be your "opinion" but there's nothing "honest" about it.

One of those days. Their lad blasted it against the inside of his own post and got away with it.
That sums it up perfectly.

You have to take it on the chin- games like that happen, which makes some other games where we didn't even try to make any luck hard to swallow.

ps Thought CJ was at fault becuase, he should have anticipated the nick, deflection and been waiting for it on the line by the nearpost. Lazy.

Casey was in no man’s land and left CJ to deal with May

(Ironically Casey also at fault for Charlton’s equaliser at their place… a couple of blemishes in an otherwise splendid season)

I can't tell you about any mistakes he made on Saturday because I wasn't referring specifically to the match, it was generally over recent months. Also, H stands for humble ;) My point was, I doubt Eki would get an easier ride from the fans than Connolly because they've both showed unfortunate vulnerabilities of late.... IMHO :)

Collectively Alfie May should have been closed down and shown down the line. We often allow opposing players too much space around the box and players also run through our midfield unchallenged.

These things happen though but we do seem a little slow spotting potential danger.

look, Ekpiteta deserved dropping earlier in the season because he was making plenty of mistakes but that seems to have clouded too many peoples opinion of him and forgetting what a great player he has been for us. But since he's got his place back he's played very well. And you pretty much highlight your agenda against him because you want to compare him to Connolly. If you wish, you can check back thru all my posts and you'll find very little if anything from me where I'm critical of Connolly because yes i think the criticism of him is way over the top. He wouldn't be in my best back line but nevertheless he's not as bad as some make out. But some on here clearly are agenda driven and for evidence of that just read the match day thread where there is absolute shiite talked about during the game about Marv.

It was lazy defending from him? Anyone with an ounce of intelligence knows you don't let Alfie May turn onto his right foot inside the box. Granted that's not his area of specialism (nothing is at the moment, horrendous showing after horrendous showing) so some of it is on Critch. But CJ, in his role as wing back which he's played most of this season should be doing better.

So based on a couple of sentences, I have an agenda against a player! Brilliant! You are doing a lot of reading between the lines - I happen to think Eggplant is a terrific player at what he does. All I said was, he won't get a free ride from the fans unless the mistakes % decreases. You could say the same about any player that's ever played the game. Fans judge you on performances.

He is not a WB, let alone a RWB in the same way you might put Marv up top for the last 10 minutes, but you'd never dream of playing him there week in, week out.

That's all down to NC, especially when you think there are 2 better options available. The thinking can only be pace chasing back and fitting him in somehow.

As I've said 1000 times some games will suit CJ starting LW, or even RW, others won't.

Yes, I don't single out any one player but it's worth noting that there are periods in each game when we seem to take our eye off the ball.

We will look a good footballing outfit with Gabriel at RWB. Coulsen at LWB. Dembele and Joseph either side of Rhodes or Lavery.

I don't know if you are aware but Eggplant is a racial slur, maybe you could just call him Ekpiteta or Marv.
