I expect a good few of you will have been to the “Waterloo”. Last night was my first time. Andy Powell’s Wishbone Ash we’re on. A long way down on my league table of favourites but I do have some of their tracks on iTunes. They turned out to be excellent. Well worth the £20.
Unlike the outside, the inside decor is very interesting and pays homage to a vast range of musical acts. It wasn’t packed but there was a good turnout that didn’t spoil the viewing. A decent range of beers/lagers are on offer (probably 50p more than your local) but the service was very quick. No food despite the burger van outside!
Their website covers all you would want to know and boasts a wide range of musical taste. Like the ‘pool, it’s worth supporting but I will cherry-pick my acts: Guns or Roses next.

I bet that was a great concert. Wishbone Ash , huge in the day and always well respected in the world of music. That is a very reasonable price for a good nights entertainment.

Ian has put a lot of time and effort into the Waterloo and it looks all the better for it. It's a far cry from when they first started the punk gigs a few years ago. We are really lucky to have the Waterloo and the Bootleg for these smaller gigs. Shame the WG/ Empress and tour promoters can't get their act together for mid sized gigs. There should be something on at the Empress at least twice a month.

Agree with all that. It's similar in Preston, 53 degrees can't get their act together, and the Guild Hall is buggered, but The Ferret is becoming really good at getting up coming bands playing along with older recognised names. I went on Saturday night to a 'Britpop acoustic' night that featured the singers from the Bluetones, Seahorses and Dodgy doing a set before a few songs together at the end. Was a good night, £16 for a ticket so not too bad.

Venues getting a reputation for bands to play them is very much down to the owner and decent promoter putting a lot of love and work into it.

Been to a few gigs at Waterloo over the last few years

Went to bootleg social on topping Street a couple of weeks ago to see Red rum club and the sound was superb, really impressed with the place 👍👍

I suspect that we were stood no further than 10 ft from each other, Sooty.
Best wear Tangerine next time?

I remember seeing FM on a Bon Jovi tour about 30 years ago...

I see the Quireboys are also playing in 8 months.....That me booking tickets

If the Waterloo could attract a mixture of genres & artists like The Continental do in Preston and mix it up for the punks, mods, soul boys, 80's, comedy and oddities, I can see this place getting a very strong following and having a place for new music to find a home.....

Had tickets for Pete Wylie at Waterloo, unfortunately cancelled and had tickets for Chameleons in December but rescheduled until May so not had the pleasure yet

Bootleg is great little venue in central Blackpool .Think whereas Waterloo have classic retro punk ,post punk and rock ,Bootleg focuses on new upcoming stuff - in recent times have seen hip hop from the states ,European house DJs ( not really my bag ) ,but from I am kloot doing social set and lots of 6 music kind of stuff( Idles ,working mens club she drew the gun..) upcoming gigs there are Ist Ist ,porridge radio and an original member of Kraftwerk doing a show next spring but loads more - declared interest my sin is very involved at Bootleg social
Both good venues and great for live music in the town
