We made bloody hard work of that

1st half was decent and some good goals.

But right at the end we switched off and let in a poor goal, how we couldn't close down the shot or have it covered from that angle IDK. There's only 1 place he could really score.

But it shouldn't have affected us, we should have gone out and won the game by scoring 2nd half.

The fact we were hanging on was unbelievable really.

They were a poor side, scored 2 all season, CJ had the beating of his guy every time, we should have done far more.

Ok we've made changes but that 2nd half display in some spells was one of the worst I've seen in a while.

They were able to pass out from the keeper and straight to the wing and away they went up the pitch. There was little to no pressing. We hardly won a long ball it seemed like at the back 2nd half.

We've seen how difficult it it for us to pass out at times so what was going on?

That was disgraceful 2nd half for some of that.

Why sit back against them? Push up, push on and win the game.

They must have thought they'd won the game and just stopped playing for some of it.

We had a real chance to get more goals for players, get a good goal difference, yet at times we went into panic mode.

Connolly just booting the ball aimlessly at times, really really poor.

Ok we broke the Tuesday night curse but only just and that was not a confident display.

Really glad we won but it left a bit of a sour taste how we nearly capitulated there. Was fuming in the 2nd half.

Credit to Cheltenham, they aren't that good but they kept going and couldn't believe their luck I bet after that first half.

Deary me, but we won.

Dearly me, but we won.
Saturdays draw actually felt like a win , yet tonight's win felt more like a draw.

Was it Casey wrong side of his man for their first goal?, the lad has improved immensely but that's basic defending to get goal side of your man.
Cheltenham seemingly had us in a strangle hold second half that we didn't know how to get out of, only plus point was we didn't totally capitulate and let them equalise with some composed time wasting and Kouassi strength near the corner flag.
It was alarming how we seemed content to go through the motions thinking the game was in the bag.
Another 40minute performance on Saturday and Posh will nail us.

Product of fielding a lightweight midfield Im afraid but the extra pace was what caused them problems in the first half.

Cheltenham I fear are heading for League 2 and seemed unable to play any kind of technical football.

How we played second half along with the referee performance second half had my blood slightly boiling. Shouldnt have been that difficult at all. Wins a win.

Happy with the win and great to see all forwards on the scoresheet. Less happy with the officials who were quite frankly inept again. That said we should not have been sweating tonight, a mixture of sitting back and not converting a host of good breaks. But it's top 6 and with a peach of a fixture on Saturday. Hopefully Norburn and Husband are OK to return.

second half was totally unacceptable We just sat back and allowed them to dominate possession. Awful game management by Critchley
I wasn't watching him much, was watching the game obviously, but he should have been screaming and pointing to players where to be etc.

Was really hoping to see some goals 2nd half in the north, we dont seem to get many these days and we did have some good chances but were wasteful.

It was that we AGAIN went into panic mode and stopped playing which we do far too easily and even against sides with little threat.

I said before the game we are conceding too many sloppy goals and tonight was no exception. We need to stop this to have any success this season.

First goal l, yes was offside, but Casey's positioning was terrible and don't know where to even begin with their second.

I admit 2nd half wasnt the best but the opp had to go for it. First half we were excellent - coulda shoulda with a bit of luck been 6 goals up. Some really good performances tonight but all the above is all very negative!

We spend so much time pressing defending & closing down we seem to lack a cohesion going forward at times. The ball goes back when it should be moved forward but the players are coached to keep the ball & move it across the back etc in the hope another opportunity will break. At times it’s frustrating and not my interpretation of the game.

When other teams in the division see tonight’s and the result against Charlton, in particular, they’re going to see a weakness which they’ll go all out to exploit. I think we could find ourselves under the cosh in the latter parts of games regularly and need to up fitness levels rapidly.

JOB DONE!!!!

Hoped we would “Smash Them Up”….we didn’t

However….3 points….that was No1 Priority.

Their first goal I think was offside & a foul.
Their Second goal…..A bit “freaky”

In Ctritch I trust, the rest of you decide for yourselves.

Notice you didn’t stay for the fist pumping at the end though Ash 🤔

There shouldn't have been any first pumping at the end. All seems a bit fake. Not even Klopp would do it after that second half performance.

We posed little attacking threat when we went to the flat midfield 3 and when Weir came on it caused us issues as he gave it away in key areas a few times.

We’re 6th and I don’t think we’ve properly clicked yet 💪🏽
Yeah, hopefully we click, but we'll have to start looking like a professional side when leading a game.

I am fed up with feeling frustrated after almost every game and that tonight was a shameful 2nd half-performance.

Playoff spot, 3 points and fingers crossed a win on Saturday. Come on the pool, let's av it and keep that momentum going 😉.

The angrier you get the bigger the text goes.

I really didn't want to write a rant post after winning, I should have been discussing the fine goal from Dembele, the runs from CJ into the box, more of the good play etc. Typical Blackpool really, Critchley needs to learn to coach a side that sees out games properly. Play as if you aren't winning sometimes, not sit back and panic.

The early Cheltenham subs seemed to improve their performance.

Our subs (except Kouassi) made us worse. Some players continue to offer very little.

Pleased NC started with Dembele. Lavery looked much more like his old self. Rhodes is phenomenal.

Connolly was a key element in the 2nd, lost his man at the back post.

Connolly is not good enough for this squad. He cracks under pressure.

Apparently Critchley was going apoplectic on the touch line second half yelling and gesticulating they push forward and n his interview you could tell he was fuming about the players second half performance. The switch in tactics by Cheltenham caused us real problems as they took over midfield and it showed how big a player Norburn is for us and also Marty Virtue in comparison to Weir and Carey. We also missed the quality and leadership of Hubby as he is 10 times the player Connolly is and I thought he had a poor game.

I was never concerned though even at 3-2. I also don’t think Lavery was any good after 45 minutes, he runs about a lot but Kouassi is a far better option in my opinion.

Missed the game unfortunately but the comments in this thread point to yet another Jekyll and Hide performance. If there's a repeat on Saturday we'll drop points I'm sure of that. Critchley needs to get his act together. His comments about we're good but need to improve further are obvious and are getting tiresome. We need consistency in performance otherwise the results will tail off.

yep, just seen goals again. How the lino didn't raise his flag for their first goal should be a sackable offence.

Might be a bit more exciting as well 🤔
How much more exciting do you want?

We could have scored 10 goals with the number of chances created. Some of the football in the frat half was superb and the goal from Dembele was incredible.

They changed shape and could afford to go for broke in the second half…. It’s another challenge we need to learn how to deal with, that’s all.

Saturday will be a totally different game, and I'm confident that with the players we have at our disposal it will be a cracking end to end game. A Pool win? yes.

It feels like very rarely do Blackpool under NC see out games convincingly.

It's often been the case we've stopped playing and sat back far too deep and far too often, even when there wasn't the need to.

It's something that needs urgent attention.

3-1 up against a struggling side you push up and trust what we were doing, keep the ball etc, not sit back and panic.

Casey was the wrong side of his man, but was let down by the Lino. A yard at least offside.
Tbf he's trusting the line, bit there were enough of them and at that tight angle Grimmy should be covering the goal for me, no need to be so close to the near post.

I know it’s very early in the season but the league really is very tight. If it stays this way there’s every chance the top six could come down to goal difference. We can’t afford to sit back . I know there were bad decisions that went against us, but they should serve to emphasise the need to keep pushing, cos we seem to get more than our fair share.

yep agree, but we are pretty much a third of the way through the season now. It's far from very early and games like yesterday we should have been able to see out comfortably. As you say goal difference could well be a factor. We can be the best team in the league but we need far more ninety minute performances than what we are seeing.
