Well done LFC and Jurgen Klopp

I hope football fans across the country watch this video and get it - there’ll sadly always be some that don’t but I hope most do and make those who don’t left signing these sort of chants on their own.

Mr Brightside

That's very good and I watched it myself earlier this evening on Sky Sports.

What did you make of the views of the Liverpool LGBT chap ?

He said that he felt the chants of the Liverpool supporters didn't wind up the player that they were aimed up but wound up a certain section - I'm assuming he meant the LGBT element but I'm sure others may have been offended by the chants ? - of the Liverpool supporters.

Earlier this week one poster stated on this forum that he didn't think that Billy Gilmour would be particularly bothered by the chants and the poster was called a "knuckle dragger" for saying that.

When the poster questioned this comment he was told by the moderator that the comment would be allowed to stay on the board because he had defended homophobic chants.

Mr Brightside - Can I ask whether you think that Liverpool LGBT chap was defending homophobic chants or whether the AVFTT moderator has an agenda against the poster who was personally abused for suggesting that - in his opinion - Billy Gilmour would not be offended by the chants ?

It is great to see that we are finally taking action in respect of these chants and I would like to know whether we need to educate the Liverpool LGBT chap or the AVFTT moderator ?

Maiden fan, and asked Liverpool fans to take him for a game of crown green bowls (there's a vid of it on Ytube). He's OK in my book.

Sadly that's the world we live in today. Some-one will always be offended so banter has no place in todays society.
That doesn't really stack up though. Chants like 'I'd rather have a tower' might be considered banter, but they're clearly rooted in a dislike or distrust of Islam.

I have to say, I'm also struggling to see the chant as homophobic; unless being a male prostitute is considered a genuine lifestyle choice for homosexual men?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious?
You aren’t missing anything, you just don’t know the story.
Way back one of the Chelsea Headhunters was established to be using male prostitutes.
The chant therefore is clearly indicating that there is something wrong in being homosexual

hope that makes sense

That’s one story but there are others too, either way I think we are all aware that billy gilmour is not a rent boy 😆

Yeah - that makes sense. Good history lesson Blood. You're like Mary Beard. Just without the beard.

Disagree - if it offends anyone then it's offensive and not 'banter' - as a white heterosexual male, sometimes I think 'bants' are exclusive to that group.

so if one person thinks it offensive it's that opinion that is righr. Ok then, fair enough. Straiters I'm offended by your comment that there was no social distancing at Kabul airport. Can the mods please delete his comment. Highly inappropriate remark in view of the times we live in.

Great thread and every credit to Klopp for leading from the front on this.

A question for Mr Brightside regarding one of our own chants, because I wonder if it is offensive or instead could or would be considered more humorous… I’m referring to the… “you’ve only come for the gay bars” chant..

The reason I ask the question is I remember Matt Lucas talking about chants aimed at Brighton… his feeling was that some were offensive, but something like (and he used the example) “We can see you holding hands” would have been acceptable….

I won’t say where I stand on this for now, but I’m interested to hear your thoughts.

No donkeys only beach huts, very sad. But there will be 9 top lads in tangerine all local. Probably the best thing I’ve ever Created
Come on the mighty 🧡⚽🍊👍😇

Funny that you mention this as I was going to post about the same yesterday but was too scared to do so.

The Matt Lucas thing you refer to was from a documentary on gay footballers by John Fashanu's daughter, her Uncle Justin was attracted to males as well as Bet Lynch.

Matt Lucas is a patron of an Arsenal gay supporters group but the incidents he was commenting on were the chants of Leeds supporters away at Brighton.

They asked him about one chant, "Does your boyfriend know you're here", and he said that he thought that was funny.

I know that Matt Lucas is not the sole judge on matters and that others may have been offended by the chants of the Leeds supporters.

Where do we draw the line ?

Our supporters have abused the officials at recent matches, I don't have any big problem with that although perhaps rather tedious but I imagine that some of the relatives of the officials involved could possibly have been offended.

Is it time to stop supporters chanting at football matches to ensure that nobody is offended ?

I’m not sure 2020…. I certainly think there’s room for humour and for taking the piss out of each other for who / what we are, but it depends…

Slating someone for being a stereotypical Yorkshireman or Scot is banter, that is reciprocated. When you step into areas where people have suffered abuse, then you probably need to tread more carefully.

I think this is probably something we ought to be guided by our gay supporters on really. 👍

I'm not going to go too deep and I probably agree with you but who's it up to decide that a Yorkshireman or Scotsman or any other group/person should have to put with something if they feel that they have been offended ?

I don’t think it needs to be up to anyone in particular it’s just one do those organic situations… We talk about shit and we evolve.

Okey doke but I think there are grey areas and certainly in a world when any fecker is entitled to be offended on behalf of any other fecker.
