Well done to the head coach today

There’s room for doubt without having to constantly say you aren’t calling for the managers head and that you want your team to succeed. It is very polarised on here where posters constantly try to pigeonhole honest opinions as those of either the Grim Reaper or Walter Mitty!! Coach Critchley needs to do a lot more to win me over but I’m open minded as to whether he can do it.

I will state with certainty that if he does get us firing the team won’t have the current two centre backs nor Williams in it and it won’t be playing Ward in midfield.

Ekpetita will be there and Williams has to lose the shirt now. I think Ward will be on the bench, it's so difficult to know as we have so many players who can claim a place in the starting XI. very difficult to know what our settled team will be. Even Yates and CJ aren't certs, not when you have Woodburn, Kaikai, Luballa and Ward who can all play there.

I don’t think it’s wanting the team to fail. I think some are just a bit more realistic of where we are and the mountain we now have to climb to property compete in this division with a novice at the helm who hasn’t and still hasn’t convinced a fair number of fans. The ‘patient’ fans do seem to be coming across as a bit overly defensive. For patience you could easily just substitute blind faith.
He's not exactly a novice.

He's been a coach since 2013. Up until 7 months ago with the current premier league champions.

I'm glad that the person picking the team hasn't got such a blinkered view of who he will be picking regardless of the performances they put in.

Of course there is room for doubt. I just think it's reasonable to give Critchley some space and time to adjust to senior, League One football. He's learning. I'm happy to give him and the players some time.

I sincerely think that players have never been told their roles, sorta, you play there coz you do and he'll play there coz he's not you and can do a job.

Players seen to be average, or below, probably are better that we've seen up to now. That's what a manger does, he sorts and plays round pegs in round holes with on field connections to other round pegs.

The only time we scored and looked dangerous going forward was when we actually got a decent cross into the box and had more than one player there. At times we need to do more of that direct attacking play rather than the endless passing that gives the opposition time to get behind the ball and to press our midfield so we don't get anywhere near their goal. All the best teams mix it up to win a game. Brett made an asute comment that Madine (who had a good game) was more effective when Yates played closer to him

Phil. It's the unsolvable enigma with Turts and Hubby.
I did say that we should start with the 2 of them today although I did think Gretarsson would start and thought perhaps we might have seen Turts and Hubby as the FBs.
Never thought we'd see the other 3 new boys in the starting line-up.
But once again they highlighted their ability on the ball is below the level of their defensive capabilities.
I think for the time being I'd settle for a solid defence and experiment with the attacking FBs in the cup games.
Overall a few green shoots today from the Manager and players.
In the words of your favourite band:
"have a little patience".

I kinda agree i dont like Husband as a centre back in a 2 but there is no doubting his commitment or determination

Turton is just a good solid pro

I think one of the 2 new lads may come in at centre back but i honestly dont want loads of changes

Madine should be nailed on to start with any of the 9 either side of him

CJ Hamilton is another worry as for all his pace his final ball is awful

Build from the back, solid midfield and rotate the front 3 would be my idea

Totally agree again. I also think Wiz nailed it when he said that Madine needed 2 players pushing up with him as his hold up play and heading was excellent but he didn't have anyone to get the ball to and create chances. That needs looking at.

I was going to say exactly the same about CJ, his pace is frightening but his touch and control are not the best so I can see him being used on and off as there are other players who can play there and bring pace and some more skills. Saying that he has scored 3 goals so when he does get a chance he is't frightened to shoot. I think Kaikai is the most technically gifted and would love to see him in the team and enjoying his football, he is always a goal threat and is a very clever player, add Woodburn and those two would be great foils for Madine. However you still have CJ, Yates, Mitchell, Luballa, Sarkic Garbutt & kemp who can play there, even Ward and Anderson too!

If we are going to play 2 pacy players up front either side of Madine then I prefer having a couple of proper fullbacks rather than wing backs to give the defence more stability, so I would play Turton & Husband and have Ekpetita (who I thought had an excellent game) and Bullard in central defence and then either Williams or Dougall as the DM allowing Robson and one other (Anderson, Ward, Virtue or Woodburn).

It is bound to take time for these technically fast and difficult tactics to become second nature to these players so we have to be patient fort this to happen, because when it does then we will be the best team in the division. We're not there yet obviously and it may take a while, but we will get better every game.

Coaching talented young players to play the Lpool way, that's vastly different from what's expected of him here. This is senior football and many of the players are 25+ and league1 / 2 level.

I've said all along that i wasnt happy with the appointment

However now he's brought in 17 new players he needs time for the squad to gell

It's quite clever decimating the old squad gives him a little bit of job security

Some good points but why do you frequently feel the need to make uneccessary negative comments to other fans? We all want the best for our club and all have our unique perspective. Let's stand united not divided.
Its because we have a load of fans who think they are playing fifa on the x box and you can just throw 4 new signings straight into the starting line up without knowing if they are fit or if they have even trained with the squad

People like Kurt who has about as much football knowledge as a pile of dog shit

Woodburn, Ballard, The Aussie and The Viking will get their chances when the head coach thinks they are ready, not when some impatient fan wants immediate gratification
