Were the Oystons planning to sell Bloomfield Road?

I’ve just been watching the Wrexham documentary and they talked about their previous owner, Alex Hamilton, who bought the club and then proceeded to asset strip. The result of which saw the club plummet down the leagues and left a stadium not fit for purpose (ring any bells?).

What interested me is the fact Alex decided to split the ground off from the club into his personal company, with the intention of knocking it down to build housing. The Oystons did the exact same thing and were reluctant (to say the least) about including the stadium as part of the sale. They didn’t seem to care what league we were in, with Karl even going as far to say he wanted to burn the club to the ground - or something to that effect.

Could that have been the master plan that kept Karl going even when it was clear the club was only going to fail under their ownership? Did Belekon quite literally save our club?

Sounds quite feasible and would make sense.
Although the hard of thinking element to our fan base have Belokon down as the enemy along with Oyston.

Most certainly not the enemy but not the messiah either, both he and Owen walked off with circa 30 mill each of BFC funds.

There are benefits to having the Club and a separate Properties Company... I don't think there was a plan to sell off the Stadium / Land at all.

Not long after OO paid a massive pound for the club, he stated that Whyndyke Farm was going to be our new ground, and it was having a retracting roof. I must admit, the model of it looked marvellous in the Tangerine Club. It was said that he was selling Bloomfield Road for £6M to Asda, and spending it to develop our new stadium. In the meantime, we would ask the Football League if we could be allowed to play on Borough Park. Thank goodness they said no because of the problems of crowd segregation. When Borough Park became The New Odeon and Swift Hound Pub. I sent a letter to The Gazette saying that if we played a season or two at Borough Park, the fans would end up sitting in the front row of the Odeon.

I remember when Owen had talks with Michael Knighton, about buying Manchester United for £ 20 million. Imagine if that had happened, it was before the premier league and the sky money.I think that was before Whyndyke and the super stadium.

That was before he bought us. I don't think they'd have been anywhere near The Champions League now it it had gone ahead.

The split was before their time. Highly unlikely planning permission would have been granted, at least without other plans being in place. So much as they might’ve liked to have…

Had the Super Casino bid happened, the land would have been sold and we’d be up at Whyndyke now, or somewhere else. Luckily it didn’t happen.

I’m sure I read somewhere that the then shelved plans for Wyndyke Farm later became the starting point for Boltons stadium and the retail park around it.

The difference being Belokon took his money off Oyston, not the club.
It would be nice to see some of that come back into the Club.

I know there are problems with VB, but what we wouldn't give for a £10m investment (not unrealistically demanding) from him.

I wonder if SS has looked down that avenue?

I think lots of people forget that @Hazi - Belokon was ultimately the hero but he reaped the benefits of his time with us.
He did but he certainly didn’t expect it and it wasn’t the prime motive
And I can say he was prepared to stay and work with another investor until the O’s made that impossible
With hindsight that is likely for the best
A new start was needed
