Wettest you've been at a game?

Brentford away in the 90s, lost 5 nil, stood on an open terrace in torrential rain for the whole game. I was drenched so stripped to the waist for the drive home. What made it worse was the limited seats were snaffled before we dragged ourselves out of the pub.

Two for me:

Sheffield Wednesday (a): Last game of the season played on a Thursday, the same night as Blackpool Borough played a promotion decider at Borough Park. There was no away end as such, so my mate and I went on the home terrace which was uncovered back then. A 2-0 defeat and a downpour of unprecedented water volumes and the 35 of us on the 1 supporters' coach went home thoroughly soaked through.

Bristol Rovers (a): Twerton Park, Bath, late March. Recall wearing a t-shirt and denim jacket as we took our place on the open away end. Bang on kick off, the heavens opened. Rovers took a 1-0 lead in the first or second minute and soon after the wind was whipping up waves on the pitch (yes, really). I'd pretty much decided we'd head back home if the Pirates bagged a second, which of course they didn't, nor did we equalise, and so drove home soaking through. May have even driven back undressed to my undies, unless that has become an urban myth over time....

Was in the seats for that Brentford game but yes, it pi$$ed it down.....wasn't at Chesterfield.

Think that the same Bristol game as me !

The one that stands out for me was a cup game against Exeter away on a Tuesday or Wednesday night in around 1989.
My mate very kindly bought me a ticket for my 21st birthday.
We were stood on an open terrace, it rained non-stop all game and to cap it all we lost three nil
It was a very long journey back

And honourable mention for Bristol city away this season, as others have mentioned we got completely drenched walking to the ground, but at least we were dry after kick-off

Another honourable mention for just about every time I ever went to Wigan at the old ground, what a dump the away end was and it always seemed to rain

Cant remember the year but we beat Boro 3-0 @ home night match and got pissed wet through going to the match.!!
2nd or 3rd row from front block B and the wind and rain was blowing into the north stand.
Asked the youngest if he wanted to sit elsewhere.
What's the point he said we're already drenched!!😬😖

Norwich City at home, game was called off 15 minutes before kickoff due to the pitch being under water... Drenched.

Bury away in the 70s or early 80s. I think it was Bury. Anyway it was an open end and it rained persistently (might have been Halifax).

11th October 1997 away at Fulham. Went down for the weekend. Me and the Lad stood on the open away end, Absolutely lashing it down. Stewards felt pity on us at half time and let us move to the covered seats

York away, I think it was a Boxing days game and we lost 4-0
Yes I will never forget this one , all stood on an the open end. I think there was also traffic problems getting there , so didn't even get a pint before the match. Then drove straight home. Miserable day

More recently the last game we played at Bristol Rovers two years ago , horizontal rain onto an open paddock.

One of the first protest marches from in front of the ground to Henry St it was persisting it down, that said my waterproofs helped. Other was walking the mile home after a game during our Premier League season, soaked to the goolies.

Bournemouth away when they were playing their home games at Dorchester Town, just peed it down all day.
Not a pleasent drive back

Bristol rovers away years ago when not at existing ground. The dye ran out of my coat and stained my hands for days it rained that hard 😞
Twerton Park in Bath. Soaked to the skin.

For me, it's when we played Newport County in Brett's last game before he went to Southampton. TV game, lashed down, soaked through, and it went to extra time.

Yep, Bristol Rovers at Twerton Park, Bath. Newport County. Chesterfield On New Years Day. Not sure about happy, but memories non the less. Have just about dried out now.

Bristol Rovers at Twerton Park. Everyone wanted Rovers to score the second so we could all go.

Once at Plymouth on a Tuesday night it rained so hard they moved us from the open terrace to the home Mayflower Stand to keep dry.

Chesterfield away when Karl Oyston was also stood in the crowd and got a soaking. I think we looked upon him as a different person because of that. Didn’t last long though!

I was sat in my car near the Bloomfield pub and it was like trying to open your door whilst in a car wash. Went into the ground and it was called off. I think Norwich also travelled up to Burnley that season and the same happened again.

That Brentford game is the one for me too - not only due to the performance and result and getting the soaking of a lifetime but also because my dad and I had travelled with his Brentford support mate and son, so we had to drive back with them being both being very smug (and also very dry as they'd been in the stands watching us all suffering on the terrace).

Chesterfield on NYD was my worst, my lad cried virtually all the way back to Macclesfield and he was a teenager at the time! I remember a game at the old Wigan ground on a friday night when fans were sliding down the mound that was there (or maybe i dreamed this?!).

Arsenal 1-1 at home in the League Cup 77? Rained heavily all day and throughout the match. 19,000 absolutely wedged under the roofs on the home side of the Kop and the scratchers. Not many Pool in the East or the South paddocks. Only 3/400 Arsenal bothered.
