What about Shayne?

Brad Holmes is my tip. He’s big, quite fast and naturally left sided, which, in among a plethora of right footed forwards, is more than handy.

Think people forget how good Lavery is/was. When he was banging the goals in start of the first championship season he was rightly keeping Jerry out the team. He’s a right handful and a clever finisher. A season being played out of position and injured has obviously made people fairly forgetful.

It's Middxile. The guy didn't understand what Bowler added to the side in the first Championship campaign.

Lavery had a poor season and at times looked completely lost. No doubt he's a confidence player, just like most forwards. I'm sure with the right partner upfront, better service and against L1 defenders we'll see him flourish. If Jerry is to leave, a large part of the funds need to be used on 2 forwards however.

because he was stuck out wide.Play him through the middle, let him take up good positons between the posts and he will score goals.

He needs to work on his first touch and his passing. The stats show he loses the ball nearly 50% of the time after he receives it, that isn't acceptable at any level.

Yes, I know he was out of position in the main but there were games when he just looked so low on confidence (he wasn't the only one). If he can regain the form he showed when he first arrived, I've no doubt he'll do well.

I've watched Brad Holmes quite a few times and he's a good prospect but he's not ready yet

I’ve got big hopes for Shane and Sonny this season. Shane certainly did better under NC and will be desperate to get back to scoring goals again.

I’ve got some hope for Thompson and Casey too but not as high. Let’s hope Critch can work his magic.

I think if we get Lavery fit and playing, he will tear up league one. The issue with him is if he does do that, he’s out of contract at the end of the season without even having an option. Could go for free. Do we tie him down now? I think I’ve only ever once seen us announce a new contract for a player who wasnt already at the end of his contract and that was Jerry Yates.

Big year for Shayne. Hopefully he can do the business.
yep, agree. A step down in division will help him. He needs to get his confidence back and most importantly be played in the right position. But that could depend on who we bring in and whether Yates is still here. And players like those two both need decent service from midfield.

Stick him alongside Cole Stockton if Jerry's going, wouldn't mind seeing a combination of those two.
I'm fairly convinced Jerry will go, I hope not, but being realistic a decent offer and he'll be off.

When at it he looked too hot to handle for championship defences.

If he can find form and confidence against often slower and lesser players, he could do well.

A lot of players, some who have been written off by some, will show us how good they really are this season.

We struggled last season with injuries, different managers playing many different ways and players confidence was drained, making them look worse than we were for much of it.

Also worth bearing in mind is the fact that I've heard rumours he can sometimes be a bit fragile emotionally. I mean, if he was to consistently miss out on team selection, for whatever reason, I think it would be a crying Shayne... I'll fetch me coat!

I like Lavery but he should be an option up front, not a nail all your hopes on him getting 20+ goals in a season. He’s quite a heavy build which is worse when he’s not fit, as we saw last season. A run of decent fitness and a few goals early on and hopefully he gets into double figures next season.

I agree. I’m hoping Carey is the big improver this year. I think some people forget how young he is, only 22 and hadn’t kicked a ball in the league prior to jumping in to the championship. He came down and met the players at my lads junior footy club and he was brilliant with them, bright switched on young man.

Lavery just needs to stay fit and I agree he’ll be a top striker in l1 too.
