What do we ACTUALLY need?

I’ve been getting towards being a bit hysterical seeing Portsmouth and Oxford making a lot of moves already and very good moves at that. BUT having thought about it, we do have some really good players here so it begs the question what do we actually need to bring in?

For me it’s the wings that we’re lacking in and critch likes to get it wide so that should be a priority, we’ll have to replace Yates and probably need another CB. Other than that we SHOULD have the quality to get back up to where we belong

Aside for strengthening pretty much every area of the pitch, we need a little more luck with injuries and a good start. As with Appleton, Critchley needs to get us off to a flyer. If he can do that, we'll have every chance.

Bare minimum of:

Sub keeper (No maxi, no Moore)
Width (No Bowler, No Keshi)
CB (no Jud, no Nelson)
Striker (no Gaz, 99.99999% likely no Jerry)

Aside from Moore, that's 7 experienced proven players at this level who've moved on - so as much as we might be able to bed in one or two youngsters we're going to need some quality in those positions too

We also never really sorted left back. I'm not convinced Lyons is a left back. He's excellent but left wing back and out and out left back aren't the same thing.

We also went down because we didn't have midfield presence.

We've also lost a hell of a lot of technical ability from central midfield but that said, Critch doesn't really look for that so much. It's an interesting thought experiment to wonder what he'd have done with Patino.

Whoever you look at it, there's a big job required. I agree we have some quality, but we're along way from having a squad if that makes sense.

We need approx 2/3 midfield, 2 strikers, 2 wide players, Maxwell replacement, and maybe a full back or two. And a CB.

8 to10 players. We have 19 senior players now i think. Some will leave or go on loan. There will be an influx but not very much spent in fees, I think.

Yates and James likely to go. Tharme Dale Casey Virtue Beesley all may play elsewhere. Beyond the window closing. If they aren't cutting it. Critch seemed keenest to use Virtue and Casey of those.

Agree but Why a RB? Gabriel's, Lyons and Connolly at a push plus Jack Moore in an absolute emergency - not being difficult but seems one of the strongest positions on paper, injury not withstanding.
Gabriel's injured, Connolly isn't a specialist RB and may be needed elsewhere, which leaves us with Lyons plus "absolute emergency" Moore, and Lyons might be needed to play further forward.

I'd suggest a loan rather than a permanent signing, but a Husband style RB who can play CB might kill two birds so to speak.

This is the new Dawn.

A couple more may leave and we will hopefully make use of Critch contacts for some quality loans. I expect signing 4-5 of our own and 2/3 loans…

If you’re getting ‘hysterical’ because Portsmouth have signed a couple of players in mid-June it rather suggests you need some kind of therapy or mental health assistance. Or at least a hobby.

We need;

Reserve keeper
Left-sided central defender
Midfielder with a defensive/ball-winning mentality
Wide player
Forward (preferably physical)

Anything further is dependent on departures

Some people are overlooking midfield which probably needs a rebuild. What we got? Trybull not been fit much. Dougall lost form and head may be elsewhere. Morgan to be seen. Virtue borderline. Connolly not ideal. Carey not fully assimilated yet. Stewart Anderson Bridcutt gone. We may need 3 more for midfield. Especially if Critch wants 3 in midfield. He did two before cos we used Keshi and Josh wide, as we had no AM options. Failed to sign Brannagan.

Brannagan, where have I heard that name before?

CJ will play regularly out wide so we need at least one winger. A left sided centre half. a midfield general, a couple of strikers, a keeper

Agree with this. Not addressing the midfield issue was what relegated us.

This is my best efforts at the answer to my own question. Hamilton is a back up winger at very best, as is dale. We need good quality outside as critch likes to play that way, we also need to replace Jerry with ideally a 20 a season striker in league one at least. I agree we do need more reinforcements in midfield as Trybull playing 46 a season is unlikely and Kenny hasn’t been any good since Wembley. Defensively we do look okay, need to get marv an experienced partner at CB though.

Plenty of work to be done but plenty of time to do it in.

Hamilton was very good in league one, having played in the championship, I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised. He might just rip defences apart.
There's not a lot that can be done to counter pace. Good defenders know when to drop and when to get close. L1 defenders aren't close to what he came up against in the Championship. With the correct service, he'll be a big asset again.

We need a couple of GKs, a couple of Strikers (just one will do if by some miracle we keep Yates) and a couple of CBs as a minimum. It then depends on how Critch decides to play as to what else we may need but if anyone becomes available that's better than what we already have, we need to try to bring them in too!

One GK will do, three was a luxury even in the Championship, likewise, with Casey/Tharme in the squad and Husband/Connolly as backup, one additional CB is what's needed.

GK back up - maybe but one of the kids can do that and we get an emergency loan in

RB - Fine unless Lyons is injured before JG available

LB - Hubby and Crazy Thomson should be fine.

CB - Marv, Casey, Tharme and maybe Hubby
(C&T both played full seasons at this level)

So I’d rather we invested in an attacker (two when Jerry goes) an additional DM and maybe 2 wide men if Critch feels that Dale who did well at Pompey won’t cut it.

It’s nowhere near that desperate

GK backup isn't expensive and doesn't count towards the squad at this level.

Gabriel, with his injury history, I think we need someone, possibly a loan.

Casey/Tharme, I'm not sure about either, a first choice CB would be nice.

Agree on the DM, wide players and forwards.

Fair point well made 👍

GK Grimmy (+ 1)
FB Lyons Connolly Gabriel Hubby James Thompson.
CB Marv Casey Tharme Hubby (+1/2) Dont think Tharme will make squad
MID Trybull Dougall Virtue Carey Morgan (+2 needs shake up)
Wide CJ Dale (+2 need better)
Striker Lavery Beesley (+2)

So add 8 or 9 and lose 3 or 4. Lose James, Tharme, one DM, Dale.

It's not a great squad as it stands. Needs improving a fair bit for a solid promotion challenge, esp midfield and attack. In my opinion.

But I thought Moore had now 'left the building'.

'Wide CJ...' You are joking - right!?!?

The comedy is you question me as a fan ...with your suggestions of 5 new players there we wouldnt finish top 10 but hey ho if your happy with that then I assume you are a little old Blackpool dick and will be easily pleased. We are lucky to play the leviathans of Stevenage Leyton Orient Fleetwood Lincoln and Port Vale...lets be honest we are league one at best for some of our fans and that is total shite.

Totally disagree...it is that desperate and we are seriously lacking in quality...we need about another 9-10 in and we need them to be first team ready

Its somewhere in the middle. Neither desperate nor only needing a bit of a tweak.
Thats fair comment but if we go another 3 weeks with no quality in then it will be desperate and very worrying...I feel the owner is at a crossroads and has a bit to prove in this window.

He hasn't signed for anyone else, I wouldn't rule out him getting a new contract here.
Stuart Moore?

Maybe. Critch does like him.

I wouldn't be that delighted with him as a number 2 and as a no 3 I'd wonder why, if we're a club dedicated to developing youth, we're bothering with a no3 who is coming on for 30.

Neither Marv nor Casey are left sided and I don't believe either have played left sided before, so minimum we need a new left sided centre back with Husband as back up.

Its you that's desperate I'd suggest. Of course things could be better and last season was very poor. And the board disintegrated. But its all relative. Desperate is other clubs. We could be much better off and much worse off. We are after players. More will sign. We've got 20. Zero debt. We'll be competitive next season.

In English, please?

I only really care about Blackpool fc ...not too fussed about everyone else
