What does Liniker have on the BBC?

Grow up FFS what the hell is racist about what the O/P said?

Unbelievable reply.

Anyway back on topic Lineker needs potting £1.35m salary a total piss take sticking his nose in other issues that don’t concern him.
The issues concern all of us, including him.

I think it's utter madness that BBC presenters aren't allowed an opinion and just feeds in to the right wing paranoia who don't really need much of a reason to get chippy in the first place.

Does anyone actually let a presenter's politics ruin their enjoyment of a program? Clarkson is old school Tory but I enjoy everything he makes for example.

Do people ostracise friends for voting another way to them? No, of course they don't, because they're adults, not whinging paranoid idiots led by press coverage.

Stop falling for us and them bollocks, Lineker has an opinion different to yours, not really a reason to call for his sacking.

Yes I agree to an extent but he shouldn’t be lecturing us from his position and most certainly he shouldn't be getting involved in politics he’s a sports presenter if he wants to join the ranks of political interviewers I’m sure he’ll find a position.
Like the O/P said others from the BBC have been potted for speaking out of term just the once but here we have Lineker done it 3 or 4 times now.
Someone at the BBC must clearly love him.

Totally agree Lytham. The fact you're a woke leftie bastard didn't stop me thoroughly enjoying your 'Dear Joffrey' posts 😉
Modern day classics those posts. Doesn't matter what political persuasion the author was.

Except that the us and them bollox is what GL was (hopefully) attempting to highlight in the language being used. Hitler and his cronies started this differentiation very early in their campaigns to gain power and ultimately murder incomprehensible numbers of people who were ‘different’, mostly Jews but also gay, Roma, disabled (children god bless them), catholics etc. In terms of how genocides happen this differentiation is always the first step and I think GL was alluding to that. I don’t believe our current political system is attempting to generate that - though social media may have you believe otherwise (a lot of it driven by foreign ‘bots’). The point is, and to badly misquote The Manic Street Preachers ‘If you tolerate this…’. Use of language is important. It can kill and heal in equal measure when someone who knows what they are doing manipulates it to their desired end-state. Accepting a walk on by attitude to the overtly negative differentiation of any grouping is the first step down a dark road - and if people think this all perished in the Camps of WW2 - think again. Just look at Ukraine. People have the right to voice opinion and the moral obligation to speak out against things that are plain wrong - and I’m not saying controlling immigration is wrong. I just don’t think demonising people is acceptable. The explicit or implicit use of ‘they’ or ‘them’ is doing exactly that.

So I agree Lytham 👍🏻😀

Gary Lineker is not a full-time employee of the BBC, he is a contractor. This is a subtle difference considering a lot of his work is for the BBC, and the HMRC is currently taking him through court to try and prove otherwise to get him to pay more tax.

However, what this means is that when he is not actually working for them, then he is not fully bound by their impartiality standards and can say what the heck he likes, within reason. Obviously, there are limits to this and his BBC contract could be cancelled if he was grossly offensive. But that is not the case here, what he has said is political but fair comment.

PS Thank you, Mr Kent. Your post cuts right to the heart of Braverman’s offensive rhetoric and her dog-whistle politics. I am surprised that Sunak is supporting this, but if he didn’t then I suppose he would have to sack her. And we know he is running scared of upsetting the extremist cabal of his MPs who support her. That’s the only reason I can think the nasty one has been made Home Sec again.

Everybody is involved in politics. He's posting on social media, just like me and you. I worked as a civil servant and I was not allowed to express a political opinion through my work. Outside of work it was a different matter. So it is with Lineker.

So sports presenters aren't allowed an opinion?

The current PM was a banker, the previous one was a journalist, which coincidentally is what Lineker is.

Is there a list somewhere of who's allowed an opinion?

He's annoyed a lot of Tory Mps and quite a few rwnjs on here.

A good days work.
Maybe he should lead by example then and take a few families in with him surely his house/houses ate big enough?

Maybe you and others on here should offer your services as well?

If enough people took them in we wouldn’t have this backlog we have right now in the immigration centres?

Can we rely on you then Ollygon to lead by example?

Opinions differ. IMHO Lineker is one of the best MOTD presenters we have ever had. Far better than Des Lynam and David Coleman. Perhaps some cannot separate him as a presenter from his political beliefs? I am not so sure about Shearer though, and cannot stand Keown.

I am making notes, Lytham …. and your name will go on the list!

Do keep up. Lineker has already taken in two Ukrainian refugees.
And what about your good self? Are you setting your own example?

Edit: one of his refugees is Turkish.

🙄

and perhaps, whilst we’re at it, we could all chip in a few more quid to help the nhs and make some sandwiches for the kids who go to school without any breakfast

you do talk bollocks, Jaffa the hunt, though you’re very good at it 👍

I’m not talking about Ukrainian’s though I’m I?

Knew perfectly well he took in Ukrainian refugees and to have thousands of other British people it’s a completely different scenario they are not illegal immigrants entering this country illegally.

At the end of the day most of the Ukrainian's will go back to Ukrainian once the war is over to you think these illegal immigrants will?

No neither do I.

Do you not do any research before posting? It's even mentioned earlier on this thread
.
You'll see that Gary Lineker has already opened his home to asylum seekers.

Oh and by the way, I've contributed financially to the UNHCR for a number of years. I put my money where my mouth is. Presumably you've done something similar!!!!

I do hope so.

Jaffa the Knut making a fool of himself again.

Lineker housed Ukrainian refugees totally different to what’s being discussed on here.

Anyway back on topic I’ll take that as a no then you won’t be opening up your house.

Didn’t think you would. 🤣

🙄 I like the ‘knut’ with a ‘k’ tho’ I’ve gone for ‘hunt’ cos I can’t imagine the mods working that one out

As Seasider1887 says, ’it’s not fair that we can’t say what we want to ….. free speech …. blah, blah, yakkety yak’

Who’s going to “speak” to Lineker? Will it be Richard Sharp the BBC chairman who facilitated a £800,000 loan to Boris Johnson who then appointed him? The same Richard Sharp who has gifted millions to the Conservative Party.
How do you like to take your impartiality ?
Maybe it'll be Director General Tim Davie, former Conservative councilor and deputy chairman of Hammersmith and Fulham Torys.

Lineker is clearly an intelligent and articulate bloke with a moral compass pointing in the right direction.

Unfortunately our current government are the complete opposite.

Just like you and me why shouldn't he air his views on social media?

Not true.

Are you against the Russian invasion of Ukraine? Why are you not over there fighting then?

There are many ways of supporting people in need. I'm sure you're very generous with both your money and time.
