What I like about Joseph so far...

Let's have a quick look at his movement, touches and potential going forward based on this.

You can see his little bit of movement away from the defender to give Dembele something to play at. Just opens up that bit of space, adjusts to the ball as it comes through, little touch forward, gives himself half a yard to put it on his right foot and finishes brilliantly, smashing it in.

This one for the Beesley goal, brilliant from Morgan to win the ball, but having recieved the ball, the 1st touch is already with turning in mind, he takes a great touch and the 2nd touch kills any bounce and sets it just in front of him ready to play as he completes his turn. We've seen many times a player with their back to goal just pass it back to someone they can see. But he recieves it well and first thought is to turn and see Beesley, no hesitation, a simple but brilliant curled pass through to him, away from the defender and Beesley does the rest.

It's simple really but still very good, very composed.

One from yesterday is this.

Ball hit into him, he gets into a little pocket of space, takes it under control and spins using his body to shield from their player, advances up the pitch and sets the attack going with the right pass at the right time, which ultimately leads to the 4th goal. Again, it's relatively simple but effective intelligent play where we've seen many times before, it's easy to take a bad touch, go backwards or hesitate, so to highlight what might seem simple but positive things is good.

There's obviously been some more bits that haven't been captured in the short highlights to show.

But he looks an intelligent player who's finding his way back to fitness and form, some promising signs. Could be a big player for us now.

Thought exactly the same about how he receives the ball, already has his next two moves in mind and his body position sets him up for. Clearly has a quality about him that stands out at this level.

Would you say he has the same sort of skill levels as Jerry?

Looks better on the ball and better physical attributes, balance and movement wise. Jerry was better off the ball with his pressing.

Early days and don't want to draw too many comparisons and they look very different players. Definitely think Joseph could play 9 with or without a partner, or play off a main striker.

Very promising.

It’s a pity we couldn’t have had Jerry and Kyle in the same team , they would certainly have terrorised this league and probably the championship too.

Yeah slightly different players and I loved Jerry.

But Joseph may have as much or more potential, certainly seems to have some of the Swansea mentality, awareness good on the ball, good touch, good vision.

Very happy with the cameos so far and looking forward to him starting on Tuesday maybe.
He certainly puts himself about and looks like a very decent player to me.
I can see him quickly becoming a fans favourite.
He comes across well in interviews too and seems like a good lad.

Not sure he's done anything to prove he's better than Yates yet.

There may be a reason championship side Swansea bought Yates for 4 million+ and included Joseph as part of the deal..

Great analysis 👍. I too like what I've seen of Joseph. It's early days, but by the end of the season we could be looking back at the Jerry Kyle deal with Swansea as another brilliant bit of business, by the decision makers at the club. We did very well out of the Bowler deal and this one has the potential to be just as productive I reckon...

He hasn't even started a game yet and he's already better than Yates!
Yeah it's a bit early to say anything for sure and they are different, but from what we can see, some aspects of his game look stronger, the technical side, which makes sense given where he came from. Yates did it and got the goals, he was in his prime. Joseph is young, developing and has it all to prove, he's also not firing on all cylinders yet.

The point of the thread was to point out positive signs from what we've seen, not to compare to anyone.

But given our style has gone a more passing way, it may end up being better suited to a player like Joseph.

I love how mental he went when we scored, Critch brought him on at the perfect time. He just looks a class player. Delighted we have him.

Here's a question and it might be a likely scenario.

If we lose Rhodes in Jan who is our best or ideal strike force?

I'd like to see Lavery and Joseph, for the speed, pressing, energy and players who are great finishers. Although it does lack a bit of presence. Saying that Joseph is a similar height to Kouassi.

But even if Rhodes does go I think players will have learned from him.

Joseph was not part of the Yates deal it was a separate transfer.
