Which is your go to chippy?

Yorkshire fisheries is OK.

Cottage is overrated.

Parkgate chippy ( Wirral) is average)

Bentleys chippy has rave reviews. Anyone confirm this.

Has anyone been to Thornton fisheries recently.
New owners and disappointing last time I visited.

I have already said above that I believe Thornton Fisheries to be the best chippy in the world.

Saying that, I have not been for a fair while now (2 years maybe) and all I have heard in the meantime is new owners and going downhill as you suggest.

Spot on, Seniors are overpriced and undercooked.

They took over a perfectly decent chippy opposite The Welcome, pumped up the prices and downgraded the quality.

I've always thought Seniors were OK but that's by the by.

When you say Welcome, do you mean Cherry Tree Road ? Is that a Seniors now ?

Hidden Gem, The Haven Chippy Alexandria Drive Lytham St Annes. Reasonable prices and Excellent piece of Haddock. Just hope he reopens after lockdown.

I have tried many of those mentioned and haven’t found one that consistently serves quality food to match the EASTPINES FRIARY next to Anchorsholme School, marvellous food ! This recommendation is based only on the fish and chips, if I wanted a pie I wouldn’t be going to a chippy .

As a kid visiting my grandparents in Blackpool the fish and chips from Rockys Plaice on Cocker Street were a thing of absolute beauty.

The chippy in Knott End is very good, but the best chippy i have ever been to is Squires in Braunton (Devon) it has won best chippy in the country 3 of the last 6 years i believe. It has a takeaway and a restaurant (seats about 80) and i have had to queue to get in every time i have been there.

Yorkshire Fisheries for me. Top quality for 50 years. Dolphin in Fleetwood is decent.

Westmoreland Street fisheries in Skipton are the best over here although I've heard that Newmarket fisheries are also very good.

Seniors in Poulton, our nearest and OK.
Used to go to Seniors in Staining, and sometimes go back.
Both very good and nice staff.

They don't know what a steak pudding is and they rarely do pies!
Our chippy menu consists of Special, fish, chips, peas and homemade tartare sauce.

You can get salt and vinegar if you ask nicely.

Brevity is the key in Yorkshire chippies. Most people going into our chippy just say twice. Nothing else.

Took me a while to figure out it meant two portions of fish and chips. No please even.

Another one for the Middle Chippy on Red Bank Rd. Excellent quality, local to me and you can order online.

Used Seniors at Thornton about 5 years ago when we both worked up there & had tea there now & then on the way home & it was ok at first, then seemed to go off. So we stopped going & tried the one in Staining & the same happened there. Weird as once you have a simple recipe & routine how difficult is it to adhere to it. The answer probably is these are managed outlets & don't pay well, with a big staff turnover. This is usually a recipe for poor standards.

I recently went to Ansdell chippy for the first time in many years, on a now very rare visit to the seaside. It was there when i was a kid n the 60s, who'd o think it would still be going strong. Fish and chips were pretty good. Kelly's across the road appears to have moved a door or two down, and shrunk. Not much else survives from my Ansdell childhood days. Although the chap I bought a car from down back Commonside in about 1984 is still there, remarkably, it seems, same name above the doors. He didn't look that young then - maybe it's his son now.

A friend of mine lives in a Devon village called Halberton and every Friday tea time, the mobile chippy parks up for 2hrs. A £2 box of chips would last you a week. 😀

There was one on St Annes Road opposite the Fire station that was great years ago, I think was called George's. Also the Lane Ends chippy was quality. but A Chinese now.
Both were sold up quite a few years ago.
Not found one as good since, they all seem franchised, KEBAB shops or chinese.
