Who do you build attack around now?

Do you find a foil for Lavery or Beesley or actually do you start with a clean slate and almost look for a'Shearer and Sutton' or 'Cole and Yorke' combination which is different from the personnel we have available now.
 
We needed another striker to replace Madine, we now need two imo. An experienced target man type ala Chris Martin and we could do with someone with pace as Lavery and Beesley aren't exactly rapid.

5 more players needed now, 2 strikers, 2 wingers and another central defender.
 
I'd be mystified if we don't have a target identified to replace Jerry and we still haven't replaced Madine. Beesley, Lavery and Holmes are all unknown quantities to an extent. With Jerry I was very confident we'd have a successful season, unless he is replaced adequately I have serious concerns. All I would say is that there are good players out there, we do have funds and an owner that has proved he'll back the manager. Before anyone throws their teddies out of the pram, we need to trust the board a little. If we don't see new players with a few days to go, you'll have every right to have a moan.

Agreed. At least this isn’t a 31st August job with Healing Hands Mansford reaching out on LinkedIn for a replacement.

This has been factored in and planned as far as it can be. It is ‘the model’ - like it or not. I am sure Downes et al have identified options.

Let’s be honest, when we signed JY9, many thought he was ‘not what we should be going for’. As you allude to as well - we don’t need a meltdown if Kane hasn’t been signed by Friday.
 
It was obvious Yates would leave so its also been obvious we need to strengthen up front. Do you build around Lavery and Beesley? I dunno, Critch will have to weigh them up in pre season, but we need to replace Jerry and Gaz anyway. We also need to weigh up CJ and Dale, and maybe improve on them too.

Names mentioned have been Stewart, Vale, Harris. Any others?

I doubt we will get Kyle Joseph. Be great if we did.
 
Big worry for me. It's the hardest role to fill and I can't see any striker at the club who is ready or able to take us into the new season. I'd like to think we have a 10-15 goals a season player but I can't see one at the moment.
 
When JY was signed in '20 the majority were asking Jerry who?
What happened over the next three years cemented Jerry as a fans favourite forever, dare I say it, in the mould of Brett!!

The serious decision now is, do we go down the same route as Jerry and buy cheap in the hope that lightening strikes twice or go down the experienced road in the hope that a player can carry on with the goalscoring history that has made them a viable option?

Whatever that decision is, I sincerely hope that the target/targets are nearly sewn up and are integrated into the squad in plenty of time👍🏻🤞
 
I want to know if the club are going to replace Jerry and Madine using the 2.5 million.

Maybe the club think we can find another Jerry type player for 250k. Good luck with that (sarcasm)

Edit: 2m as I believe Rotherham are to receive 500k sell on clause

We bring in players who cost from nothing to about 700k. We know this. Some turn out well, some don't. We know that too.

Josh Bowler cost nowt. Marv nowt. Jerry 250k. Nuttall 500k. Lubala 500k.
 
New names have been mentioned, the club has clearly been working on the basis that JY wasn't going to be around, and I'm sure there are others on the radar that we don't know about. We don't necessarily need like for like, we need players who fit into the squad and playing methods we're going to adopt, whatever they might be. Good news is there are some funds to use.

Waiting isn't easy, but it's what we have to do. Love it if at least one more came in this week but the team is out of the country so it might well not happen until later.

One certainty is that there will be additions in August after the season starts.
 
I think I was the first on here to suggest Sam Nombe of Exeter, so stand by that recommendation. Being out of contract next summer he should be affordable , whether he can be persuaded to re-locate so far north is questionable. Another that they may chase again now is Lee Bonin of Larne, although he has just signed a new 3 year deal so his value may now be well above the £300K touted in May when ourselves, Bolton , Derby and Dundee Utd were linked.

If we assume Chris Martin is genuinely in the pipeline, then with him, Beesley and Lavery the immediate priority should be getting some wide players in to create any chance in the first place. Lavery is a step down from Yates but still has the potential to get 15-20 in league one this year, but not if it's Dale and CJ providing the assists.
