Why do season tickets fall following a relegation?

I'll be honest and say I've been a ST holder for 35 years bar the NAPM years and have never really understood the fluctuation in ticket sales. Yeah I got why we had a big influx for the Premier from glory hunters wanting to watch Man Utd etc but is there really a huge difference in Championship and League One. Are fans really more desperate to watch Blackburn than Bolton or Rotherham than the Rams.
I genuinely can't see that much difference in terms of quality or competition plus you'll see a lot more wins in League One than the Championship which is surely what we all want - anyone help me out?

When we dropped for the first time in 78, gates went from an average of 10,000 to 5,000 over that summer.

It took us 30 years get those gate numbers back up, partially because of the decrepit nature of the ground, but also because of the standard of football

Not sure it's anything to do with the relegation or the teams we will face in League 1. More the managerial appointments, lack of ambition in recruitment and then the manner in which we capitulated to relegation. A sense of "if they can't be arsed then why should I?".

If the recruitment continues in the positive vein of the last few days I dare say a significant number will get back onboard.

Threat of mortgate rates
General cost of living
League One (can butter it up all you like but still Blackpool v Stevenage)
Lack of intent and bad decisions last season
People put off by the mobile tickets
IPTV

There probably should be a can't be arsed category which I fall into it.

With your sense of fun ever thought about a career as a kids party entertainer.

Fans are fickle it's the nature of the beast.

I know a family of four and two lads dropping out they simply don't want a ST for third division football so it is what it is.

It's about being associated with something that's successful (or disassociated with something unsuccessful). It's why you get thousands of glory hunters following top prem clubs despite having no association with them or their locations whatsoever. This is the same principal, but on a much smaller scale obviously. It's why you get attendances way above your average towards the end of the season if you have a chance of going up. Just human nature.

Another, I'll watch Blackpool wherever, whatever so I'm better than you thread.
Good onya😉👍🏻
It was a question, not a statement.

I certainly don’t think I’m better than anyone, far from it, I live a thousand miles away and I’m nowhere near as bothered as some people.

Blimey that is fickle. Bit of pressure on Critch this time round to deliver as in order to get those two lads back we need a winning team. As lovely as it is for Downes to be talking about bringing through youngsters, in order to get revenue back in the club we need a winning side .. simple as!

If you won't turn up to Blackpool vs Exeter but you will turn up to Blackpool vs Leeds, are you a Blackpool fan?
Of course they are. There are two types of fans. The ‘diehards’ who will go regardless, and the floating fans who will pick and chose, may have other commitments and interests. It’s the amount of ‘floaters’ that make all the difference and we need to try and attract. All are fans, if you say you support Blackpool then you’re a Blackpool fan.

The standard of football drops, so some are just not inclined to invest that money to commit to something for 9 months that they may not enjoy as much.

Personally I’m not one of those people as I support the team come what may and enjoy the football regardless. Though I do remember some games being absolutely dire in League 1 and more-so league 2, I can live with it.

Ironically, I'm expecting to see better, winning football this season than last.

Many fans saw the club drop; after failure to invest the Critchley and Bowler cash.

The board chose instead to hire certain flops Appleton and McCarthy.

It signed raw and crock risk players.

The Championship on the cheap misjudgment has cost £4m in relegation.

Directors restored a coach who signed for years, then left with no goodbye.

Then his Aston Villa and QPR stints brought only three wins in 23 games.

The three modest recruits so far demonstrate no greater ambition.

Regardless, some people will purchase season tickets for poor quality football.

The more discerning will only buy them if directors match their desire for success.

Can’t believe the op needs to ask this question, it’s just how it is, drop down the leagues and you get less people interested all the way down to Sunday league where you might get 10 slightly bemused onlookers on a good day.

It's got fuck all to do with the actual relegation for me

More the cluster fuck of incompetence from the board and a failure to recognise it with very little in the form of positive PR to actually try and sell season tickets this season

Apathy rules ....

Phil, Agree also. I see very little to convince me we're gonna have a cracking season. Still no quality midfield general/playmaker, no one to support Yates (if he stays), if Grimshaw gets injured we only have a vet keeper to replace, an attack of Lavery, Hamilton, Beesley and Dale doesn't excite me, etcetera. I'm usually a half glass full type but, if we don't hit the ground winning and go on a mediocre streak, those that think we're gonna romp this league are going to be very disappointed. I hope I'm wrong but, at £350 (one of the dearest in the league, in a poor town) to watch Div 3 football against Burton and Stevenage, I'm gonna pay per game as and when. Oh! bye the way I am a long standing Pool supporter, a discerning one at that but, what you reap, you sow. Take heed Simon. UTMP forever.

I have renewed but admit to finding a lot of last season pretty demoralising. I have a 300 mile round trip with the first half of the journey by myself. Its costly; I have work commitments - its easy not to get one.

Every credit Cuth, now you're what I call a true fan, more than anyone, you deserve to see a great season. Good news, Norburn signs. 👍
