Why drop Marv?

Cos he's been diabolical this season is a pretty good reason. Have to say though against a long ball team like them I'm surprised he didn't leave him in.

Was obvious to me playing Cheltenham that they would launch it & rely on set pieces & long throws.
So surely Marv was essential as he wins most headers & blocks.
Despite his errors he should have started last night, preferably in a
4-4-2.
But Critchley knows best🤔🤡
Commentator made the same point, and I agree with both of you. If he had to make a change, bring Casey in at right side for Pennington and play Marv. I know Pennington is better going forward but he's coming back from injury and we struggled with their height and physicality no doubt.

Lots said Grimshaw was flapping, but that was partly because he was having to get something on every cross, with not enough help. That's where Madine used to make a huge difference for us.

I'm quicker than Casey. There was a point when their lad went past him like he was running in treacle, and that was in the first half.

As for that shambles when he decided to turn and take on the attacker when he was last man...unbelievably bad decision making and weak with it.

Yeah it was not the best I agree, but I did say if he had to! :)

In his defense, chop and change players randomly like that and then expect them to perform to their best is not gonna happen IMO.

Is this the same Marv that everyone wanted rid of earlier in the season?

It's always the player that's not in the team that suddenly becomes the answer. Funny old game.

Critchley knows fuck all he’s totally inept. He’s only fit for being somebody’s gofer. Hey Neil stick the cones over there will you and brew up.

Hes our best defender especially in the air winning most headers. Should have started or at least come on at ht (oh forgot he never changes anything at ht)
So desperately needed him last night as hardly any headers were won, hence the pressure & defeat. Yes out of form early in season.
His blocks are numerous, albeit gives us a few frights!

Ludicrous to not play Marv. Critch is bloody clueless. Some good comments here but Grimmy had to do more than normal as he didn’t get the protection or the height to keep them at bay.

always been at the forefront of defending Marv on here and earlier in the season he was making mistakes on a match by match basis and yep as much as i didn't like it i could understand why he was left out. But he got his place back in the team but despite a couple of unfortunate own goals he was playing well and dominating his opponents. No way should he have been left out last night, especially against a team who Critchley would have known exactly how they play.

Players need to play to get a rhythm and an understanding with their teammate, you cannot be at your best when we always chop and change, the defensive especially should be picking itself at this time of the season..

Off your head. He hasn’t been diabolical in the slightest. He might have lost possession a couple of times but when it comes to actual defending (last man/ditch defending, heading, one on one’s etc.), he’s better than anyone else we’ve got. And the last couple of months he’s been our best player alongside Grimmy.

Totally agree. Gobsmacking choice. It’s like the manager chose a team based on who is trading best rather than who is the opposition

Confidence from the og’s?

Not going to slag nc off for this as it could be a tg obvious decision.

Marv is a good player but is better in a back 4, in my opinion. If he doesn't want to extend his contract, then it's another reason to play others who are committed beyond this season. Our season will either be dead in the water or still have some life in it after the next 4 games. If it's the former, we need to focus on next season and playing those who will still be around. I appreciate that may mean dropping Lavery, Husband, Ekpiteta, Byers, Rhodes and Coulson but at that point I wouldn't care. It's top 6 or I don't care where we finish.
