Why have it behind closed doors?

Why not just make it pay a tenner at the gate and fiver for concessions??? People know it’s a friendly but we’d have got 1500 plus who’d go just to get a footballing fix. Yes you’d have to pay a couple of stewards but it would have made the club 10 grand, open the club shop and people would buy the new kit, Burton tickets etc Everyone who went would know it’d be a mix and match team and no one’s fussed about the result so I just don’t get the secrecy about it all.

Are you going to join the group of volunteers and help clean up afterwards?

Nothing to do with organising a match and everything that entails, it's just because the club clearly hates it's fans and will do everything to piss them off.

SALADER OUT!
He's even blurred the part where we score in the highlights when it was perfectly clear for Plymouths goals.

Clearly wants us to experience pain in HD.

What an idiotic O/P we don't half have some whoppers on here what don't they understand about last minute game arranged happens all the time.
It might happen in Sunday league division 9 games that you played in when opposition teams fancied filling their boot’s playing plodders to get their confidence up but professional teams don’t tend to have many last minute games arranged. Plus how difficult is it to get a few stewards and gatemen in on 24 hours notice, they don’t look the sort to be away on skiing holidays so would no doubt appreciate a few extra quid.

Er because we are a professional club who have to run things properly.
Put on hospitality, get staff in to run concessions, police, stewards, sell tickets the list is endless.

But you know better.🤡

Crickey….are there really Sunday League division 9 games these days or if ever….as for you original post it simply doesn’t work that way at such short notice and perhaps both clubs were treating it as another opportunity to develop fitness and assess where they are and nothing more.

I do indeed know better. You advertise it as a last minute friendly acknowledge that there’ll be no hospitality and no concessions stalls open but if anyone fancies watching a game it’s £10 and £5 cash only. They’d clear a good few grand but hey we’ve got a sheikh running the gaff so why worry about bringing some income in.

There were 30 years ago 👍Not that I ever sunk that low always 1st division for me.

Cash only you ** idiot what decade you in and not sure you'd be able to open without providing a simple thing like selling a bottle of water.😂

A club can’t just organise an event likely attended by thousands of fans off of the cuff. Logistically, practically and legally it would be a nightmare. Policing, stewarding, ambulance, health and safety, insurance etc. All have to be taken into account.

Well open one of the stalls then they manage it for the kids finals it’s not rocket science oh and also that’s only cash entry as well as it was 2 months ago. I presume from your posts that you must be a Health and Safety or Equality and Diversity Officer you boring bugger. You probably do a risk assessment before going to the shops.

It's a great idea, run a business contrary to a) it's insurance and b) the law. Fuck 'em, we want to make a few grand.

STADLER OUT!

Maybe they know the ins and outs and have a more holistic viewpoint.

They also know about that in advance and can plan and prepare for it. It’s a pro football club. You have to work within the law and the limits of insurance etc. They’re hardly gonna risk hundreds of thousands of pounds due to fines for non compliance for the sake of £15-20k

Obviously because they didn’t want you there 🙄

What do they do with the Corner Flag when there's a game behind closed doors? Do they close it for the duration, or close the blinds or what? 🧐

Nearly 50 years ago( yes I was around and playing) there were at least 2 different Sunday Leagues.I played originally for the Blue Fountain which then renamed itself as the County and Commercial had two teams.
The first team started to play their Sunday games in the afternoon and many players lost interest ( after all part of the Sunday football attraction was a few pints afterwards and remember in those days pubs had strict Sunday hours and closed at 3pm and didn’t reopen until the evening).
The result was they failed to fulfill their fixtures so the then league committee wanted our second team, which I helped run and captained much of the time) to take their place in the higher league.I had to attend a full meeting with the committee to argue it was not a great idea as we played in the lower divisions and the first team were in the second division and none of the first team were keen to step down to play for “us“ and nor did we want them too as it would mean our lot would be unlikely to get a game but nor did we want to thrashed every week as was most likely to happen. We obviously wanted to be competitive but we really played for fun and never really set out to win trophies and losing on a regular basis is not fun.
The committee relented and agreed to keep us the division we were in.
Can’t remember exactly the dates but I know we joined the smaller Sunday league eventually.
This was in the period late sixties to 1977 when I moved away to where we live now in Cheadle Hulme. My Sunday football from there on was in the Manchester Accountants League and my final game was in 1993….I was too sore every Monday morning to carry on😂

Security close the blinds.

Morretti lounge the blinds are one way so you can watch the game in there whilst game is on.😉

I thought the Moretti lounge was only for actual match days though, so no one would be in there yesterday?
Yep your correct was just making a boring point about the type of blinds.😃
If you stay in the hotel you also have to close your curtains on a match and you ain't allowed to check into your room 3-5.

The rules are bonkers if they ever allow fans to drink inside stadiums will be thrown out.

With this game yesterday and more to the point the well in advance Southport game having no stream available that indicates to me they wanted the players to have these first few games without the pressure of the moany entitled Blackpool fans whinging about a new squad who might be a bit rusty after six weeks off.I mean look at the knobs on the Plymouth thread yesterday based off a couple of Twitter updates.

I'm not sure they'd get 1500 there. We don't get that for the mickey mouse cup games. And I thought the game was only arranged at the very last minute because Plymouth had an already arranged friendly for saturday fall through at the last minute. Unrealistic expectations from the o/p.

I can only speculate like others have done. Practicalities. Privacy.
I saw the official BFC Facebook threads last night. There was a post match interview from a Critchley, and one with a summary of the game.
On both threads, at the time I looked, most comments were incredibly negative. Fans moaning about the score and being pessimistic for the season ahead.
I saw it, though I didn’t see it as it was behind closed doors, as a good run out following the training camp in Cork. We played two different 11s again across two halves. We played a strong side from a higher division and we held our own.
I’m an optimist and I’m looking forward to a very successful season.

Short version for Mac please, and for anyone else with the attention span of a gnat 🤪

Yep sometimes you have to take a deep breath with the miserable gets on here.
No wonder none of my group who most are younger use Avftt.

In my head, I'm imagining Sadler reading this humming the Billy Piper classic "because we want to" as he does.

Maybe it was too late to clear it with the police.

I'd say it was quick thinking on Critchley's (or whoever), part to get this game on. We can't keep fannying about with games against the likes of AFC Fylde's under 18 second XI. We need to pitch in against good sides. Plymouth are full of confidence going into their first Championship season and they provided our lads with a good test.

Oi, I played in division 9 Sunday League. We had a high standard. Only lads that drank over 8 pints the night before were allowed to play.

There are a couple on here who were involved around the same time though usually one in opposition ( unless we borrowed him which did happen)😂
one of the opposition teams in the “ junior league, can’t remember it’s actual name, was managed by Budgie( not the feathered one by the way) still one of my all time BFC hero’s from the day he made his debut at Everton and was privileged to be there.

In order for the ground to be open for a match the club have to have certain things in place. Stewards, SIA registered security in the concourse areas, security around the main entrance, the police have to be informed and have a full risk assessment done, generalstaff to man the bars that are open and ticketing. Its not as easy as opening the doors and off we go.

My goodness.

Absolute Much Ado About Nothing

It was a last minute friendly. It's summer with all the delights yesterday of high winds and rain.

Just enjoy your summer and worry about football in a few more weeks.
yep, totally agree. I'm not desperate for the football season to come along. Too many other things to enjoy and do at the moment.
