why is critchley so good

He knows how to construct and coach and develop and nurture a squad as opposed to just a first team…and then add on his left field tactical geniusness and it’s a potent mix indeed!

He believes in what he’s doing. He knows he can do it well and won’t be swayed by impatience and impulse.

He’s qualified, well trained and a good mentor.

He’s in it for the game, the players and the fans not just the pay cheque.

The list goes on ....
Spot on. You can add humility, intelligence, politically awareness, fire and skill into the mix.

Critchley first of all has all the characteristics of being a top human being,he has manners, humility, compassion and can motivate players to run through brick walls for him. He also has joined us from a football club that excels in the winning mentality, they do things the right way and surround themselves with the right people,Critch has picked this up and learnt from it.

Awesome eye for young talent. This is what we expected when he was signed, but still, it's been wonderful to see "no name" players develop into giant-killers before our eyes. Think of all the players we love right now... all of them (save for maybe Keogh and Garbutt) got a shoulder shrug and a "well, I hope he can cut it at this level" when they first signed.

I think I read somewhere that he is one of ony 16 coaches that have attained the highest level of coaching qualification in Europe .

Definitely, particularly humility.
I admire the fact that he appears to retain his humility even though he knows how treasured he is.

When you've got thousands of people chanting your name, when you've got staff performing at such a high level, it takes somebody with self awareness not to let it go to your head.

I do think though he knows that's he is a special place in his career and life.

He's got no real pressure, is accountable internally to a good set of managers and is accountable to the most supportive set of fans in football (apart from one or two - no names no pack drill 😁) and is being allowed to do something his way.

I bet he gets home and is so happy!

...... Napolean said don't give me a good field marshal... But a lucky one.... I think critchey might be that....

I won’t go into why Critch can walk on water…it’s been covered above, but I will say the club were very astute at going outside the stagnant Manager pool when they appointed him.
My heart used to sink when the same old names were trotted out to be our next Manager.
Critch is a breath of fresh air and will no doubt be catching the eye of other Clubs….which leads me to my greatest concern, would we be back in the stagnant pool for a replacement?
I hope we don’t have to face that situation for a very long time.
UTMP.

“...... Napolean said don't give me a good field marshal... But a lucky one.... I think critchey might be that....”

As a reposte Critchley may point to his injury list and say , “I am the unluckiest manager to have ever managed a football team in the history of the world!”

Also think about your own experience of a sh*t manager and turn it around.

Untrustworthy, duplicitous, unreliable, managing with a stick and not a heathy motivational carrot, more interested in their own development than yours, not technically astute themselves, fake.

We’ve all worked under them, Critchley doesn’t seem to carry any of the above.

It‘s often as much about what you don’t do as what you do do.

He's humble and intelligent and he's put the hard yards in over quite a few years.

Let's not forget though that he landed at a club where a fantastic new owner has given him a great opportunity. With great staff. And great support from the stands. It's a team effort, just as it was under Holloway. Two great managers, with good people in support. Even more so in Critch's case, no Oyston nonsense.

I think he's been so good because not only can he spot the ability of a player and has an extensive knowledge of young players in this country, but he can also identify those with the right attitude and he won't compromise on the players he wants. I think that's why we have tended to wait for the likes of Dougall, Gabriel, and more recently why we didn't sign someone in place of Brannagan. We wait, even if it's to the detriment of the first few results of the season.

I remember @TwelveAngryMen (I think) saying that Ben Mansford had mentioned Critch being very particular about who we went for. It makes a huge difference if you have that knowledge and vision - I mean who would've known about a player called Carey playing for King's Lynn!
Our success right now is due to a clear transfer strategy that's only been made possible by having Critchley as boss.

It's been suggested that Carey came to us, because he wanted to play for Critchley, because of his experience of bringing young players through. Rather than us identifying him and approaching Kings Lynn. I don't know if this is true.

Out of the wreckage of the past we are lucky enough to land an owner who works hard, avoids the limelight, trusts his team and lets his actions do the talking. Then hey presto, we land a manager who does the same. These are special times.

Sadler must be absolutely over the moon with all this given how it went with Grayson

He connects with the players, the fans and the club. Just look at other successful managers/coaches - they have the personality to motivate in every department. He’s a class act and we’re bloody lucky to have him. 👍

He has no real history as a player or manager of another club so not only had anyone ever heard of him really, but then no-one had anything against him for being associated with another club. No record to compare from another club and unlikely to be poached just yet because other clubs like to play “safe” - hence the managerial merry-go-round.

He’s making his way in football at a higher level and has been allowed to make a few mistakes because he is a relative novice at managing, and he’s lucky enough to be at a club that is also - more or less after years of misrule - starting from scratch.

The fans were always wanting to get back to supporting the club and the team and its manager, despite Grayson’s lack of success the fans never really turned on him, moaned a bit yes, but no sign of protests about him. Critchley has arrived on a wave of enthusiasm at board and fan level, the board haven’t let him down, he hasn’t let the fans down and the fans haven’t let the club down.

It’s a marriage made in heaven 👍

Thank fuck we divorced Owen and family 👍⚽🍊🍊🍊

What Holloway had to deal with was ridiculous. Well beyond the call of duty. He was determined beyond belief. It was a phenomenal 3 years of management. Superhuman.
Critch is also the polar opposite of Ollie and doesn't crave every available bit of limelight that's going to spare.

He is one of sixteen coaches worldwide to have obtained UEFA's elite coaching badge

If he was asked the same question I think Critch would say that he worked under a great manager and communicator at Liverpool.
Thanks Jurgen, we'll see ya next season.
I know they drew yesterday but I can't really see them going dow....oh right.

For any other clubs reading this…..

Everyone above has been drinking and is absolutely deluded.

Critch is a waste of space, doesn’t know his arse from his elbow and could not lead at subutteo.

Just to add, he is tactically inept and would have more luck picking players in a tombolla!

He is also arrogant, egotistical and genuinely one horrible human being who would poison any dressing room or club.

Stay away, you have been warned!!!

😉

Ollie is also the bipolar opposite. Why do people judge him so much? There's good and bad in all of us. We all had different childhoods. Ollie and Critch have both made very successful careers and brought great times to Blackpool FC, its players and its supporters. Ollie doesn't deserve the animosity he gets, IMO.

It is indeed a match made in heaven and football chemistry. While thought of Critch ever leaving sends a chill down every BFC supporters spine, I believe he is here for a while.
As mentioned before, there are club owners and fans for that matter who are impatient about results and success, we have a few fans ourselves. Critch however, has been given chance to achieve something greater than just taking over another club and spending millions. I think many mangers could succeed that way, but Critch can build something unique and great at a unique and great club at BFC . If he gets us to the prem it will be more of an achievement and testimony to his brilliance if he takes the Might Pool to be a competitive and successful team in the prem. I believe he will do it and will be a total Pool legend.

good post but better user name.

He just gets it doesn’t he, tactically he's probably the best manager I’ve seen in my time supporting Pool and he’s built a great relationship with the fans. It’s like a snowball effect that’s gone down to the players too, every player in this squad wants to play for the shirt and has a point to prove every week to the fans and to Critch. I really hope we can get a contract extension tied down very soon

I hope we don't end up just being ships in the night 😋

I have it ready

It makes me wonder that before we came in for him he was pretty much an unknown apart from the inner circle of professional football itself and did he think that perhaps he was always gonna be some-one associated with developing young players at a top club .? Clearly he loves it here but how much ambition is there in him to go on to a lot bigger things with some-one else when perhaps it was never even on his radar til he got the unexpected chance to come to us.

Agree , we are witnessing special times with special owner and manager. First time in my life this club has been in safe hands.
