Current Coronavirus cases ..

Lancashire - 2,878 (Up from 2,824)
Cumbria - 1,954 (Up from 1,914)
Liverpool - 1,454 (Up from 1,428)
Manchester - 1,154 (Up from 1,118)
Wirral - 1,029 (Up from 1,018)
Cheshire East - 908 (Up from 888)

Probably because people are taking it less seriously. Went shopping Saturday, no queue outside, busy aisles, no social distancing, even staff. On a daily walk you see people stood talking to people at gates etc (which isn't a problem if keeping distance I guess) but when there is less than a meter between. Work places I've heard are not also keeping to the rules. Even when brought up in concerns it's "we're doing our best". It only takes one person to infect a tribe.

Simple because people still refuse to social distance.

Only yesterday my daughter told me after returning from a 10 hour shift at Victoria hospital that where she lives in Poulton not one but two adjoining gardens over the back garden we’re having BBQ’s one attended by about 10 people the other even more.

Another instance was on the beach yesterday afternoon walking the Dog (yes I walked down) 3 Jet-skiers out, absolutely mind blowing should be locked up and the equipment confiscated.

Just what bit don’t people get about the lockdown guidelines and social distancing?

Perhaps the comments of stupid southern idiots can now be replaced by dumb northern monkeys?
Fear not we'll soon be having our haircut, supping in pubs and going back to watch football. How dare the government tell us what to do!!🙄😞

JTH, I'm in Poulton and many people pass the house going into town.
From what I've seen from the front window, people do keep a distance from others, generally.
However, a BBQ with 10 people? If they don't all live in that house, they must be crackers.
Or just don't car about others. ☹

Be interesting to see the regions that have done the most testing in the North West. Not sure if anyone has that data bookmarked?

Also would I be right saying statistically that the North West has the poorest general health in the country therefore more people with underlying illnesses and weaker immune responses?

Dave it’s not about the walking on the streets I agree most people keep well within the guidelines regarding social distancing but having a BBQ inviting family and friend round is something we would all like to do, it’s my sons 28th birthday tomorrow and my son in laws 30th birthday on Friday but we won’t be celebrating/seeing either of them to celebrate it, I often wonder is it just my family that are all being being dumb in all this instead of just saying fuck it and do what we want. 🤔

Part of the problem is that by going out you are the problem.

People justify to themselves that they are right and acting responsibly when they are not.

How far and how many times do you need to take a dog for a walk a day, is building the new shed a priority etc????

BUT as I said everyone has their own justification and will just blame the others, when they are actually part of the problem!

Lancashire's does look comparatively high, at 2,854 for its population of 1.2m. My county, Lincolnshire, has 848 cases for a population of 756k. Cumbria's is also high for a population of less than 500k

Going for a walk is part of your allowed daily exercise walking the dog as part of that exercise makes it no different at all keeping it within the hour.

Some of this may still date back to the original sources of infection in these areas?
Perhaps the Athletico Madrid game in Lancashire?
There is a theory that the Chinese love of Beatrix Potter may be responsible for the problem in Cumbria, although I think this would rely on a conspiracy theory that the virus has been around for longer than we currently understand to be the case?

Lancashire are 7th nationally, disproportionate for the size of the county.

It's been Lockdown-Lite is this country should have been stricter.

The groups which are getting worse hit and we have high numbers could be a factor.
BAME over 10% in Lancashire
30% population over 65 average
Over 85 as high as 8% in some parts
Poverty we know is huge problem for towns in Lancashire we normally goes hand in hand with obesity and poor health.

Even that is part of the problem, assume you pop to the shops as well some days, or the dog gets walked more than once.

I am sure you act perfectly and have never strayed from the rules - but many are not and are part of the problem!!!

The advice from the government doesn’t help either as some of it is not very clear.

Nope I visit the shops as part of the dog walk picking anything I need up in the morning, i’ll admit my hour is broken down in to two half hour sessions AM and PM but is that a big problem when some cyclists I know for a fact are going out for 2-3-4 hour sessions at a time?

I am glad you act perfectly all the time and set a fine example 👍

It takes ten seconds to catch or pass on the virus you fool

Has anyone considered it could be because Lancashire is doing more testing?
This is the vital question and we need access to that data to understand if the higher cases are a result of higher testing than other regions.

Very important we see that data because Gove is on about keeping lockdowns in areas where the rate of infection is higher.

Are we experiencing higher infection rates than the rest of England or are we simply testing more people?

At thia moment in time..Over 500 cases of covid 19 in Blackpool.....130 odd deaths at Victoria Hospital from covid 19.

We have the most covid 19 cases in the North West...out stripping even London.

Its simple really....stay the fuck at home...some people still dont get it.

Question. We have to keep two metres apart. We’re told you can only catch it if someone coughs or sneezes close to you or from surfaces.

So can you catch it if you’re standing next to someone who isn’t coughing or sneezing?

Are they all Blackpool residents or imports from other Lancashire hospitals? (Preston, Blackburn etc)

We need to get the new infection rate down to managable numbers like Germany and other countries have...we currently have between 4500 and 6000 new cases every day in this country....far too high in my opinion to lift too much lockdown.

Big workforce down south, commuting at weekends bringing it back from the southern monkeys. Maybe the southerly wind is blowing it up here. 😦

I would imagine the areas mentioned have very different population numbers too. It needs to be a percentage of each area to get a more accurate reflection.

Its a good question and one ive been searching for the answer for two months. If nobody is sneezing or coughing the particles out then how is the virion meant to infect another person?Assuming the virion can live outside the living host long enough to be inhaled by another person.

Surfaces im questioning as a viral particle is not alive so how can it live on a surface?A viral particle needs a living host to survive as it cannot store energy by itself.

What is evident over these last few months is how varied virologists and epidemiologists are with their information regarding viruses.Very difficult to get a conclusive answer to how virus infects people.

Re it being "alive", it would be more accurate to say it is "viable," ie capable of infecting a living cell

Re how is it transmitted if no coughs or sneezes, tiny droplets in your breathe, you can breathe out billions of viruses. This is one of the biggest controversies re masks, they will stop cough and sneeze droplets, but can they stop microdroplets or clumps of viruses?

When the police have to break up a cricket match in a certain park in Preston you know we have a problem. It’s as if some in the community don’t care about the rest of us. Just saying.

So to be picked up in the air and carried and not just fall to the ground you would assume these droplets to be microsized. The micron sizes of these masks surely cant be small enough to keep a micro droplet out.

Then we have the question of whether the micro droplet can survive the conditions of higher temperatures, humidity and the outdoor air and what these sort of conditions do to a micro droplet whilst it travels.

What protects it from these elements and how does it survive long enough without an energy source to travel a distance and be inhaled by somebody else?

I thought the Athletico Madrid would affect the Liverpool / Merseyside figures, not Lancashire's?

I work for a delivery company going to 150+ addresses each day & the number of people who come to the door instead of waiting a few seconds when I’m trying to leave the parcel is staggering but not surprising as some people will never understand the reality of the situation. When I ask them to keep their distance a lot of people think I’m being unreasonable. I see parties being held , family gatherings & some of the country lanes I travel are congested with large groups of walkers who are a danger to themselves & traffic. Until they see people dead in the street some people will not accept anything is happening.

You're not the only one. As with many others families, I haven't seen my son for two months except via zoom and only seen my daughter/ son in law a couple of times as they've walked past our house or us theirs. And that's only by being stood at the front door and us/ her on the pavement. It proper winds me up when I see next door having more visitors in the last 7 weeks than in the last 7 years.
We can't do any more than that I'm afraid.

Dog walking Saturday around Stanley Park couldn't believe there was a game of football going on between a load of Dad's (8 men) and a separate one with their sons(5 kids) unbelievable.

Not really no.

What protects it from these elements and how does it survive long enough without an energy source to travel a distance and be inhaled by somebody else? It is coated by host cell material which gives it a short lived element of protection, it is effectively just a strand of chemical not needing an energy source

It lasts 72 hours on surfaces apparently. So without direct contact you would have to be coughed on, or alternatively put your hand on a still infected surface and then ingest this through contact with your nose, mouth or eyes.
I shared a drink with my Infected daughter and then kissed the other one so understand fully why we dropped like flies a week a time apart.

it seems that the level of people following the guidelines has been way overestimated as far as i can see.probably about 30% of the households in my street are just ignoring the lockdown rules about social distancing.office girl turned up for work last week coughing and with a fever/temperature had to be told to go home.forgot to add that on the 24 /04 one bloke turned up for work after his wife a nurse at bvh had been sent home the day before because she was showing corvid-19 symptoms.

I’m sure that’s probably true of most of the aforementioned regions though to be honest. We need percentage stats and proximity stats based on how close together people live, work together and have to travel in my opinion.

OMG youre joking! imagine having a bit of exercise with your kids on a park on a Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately, some of these people won't learn until they have a death in their family. The real tragedy is that their social mixing will probably cause a death in another family, not theirs. 🙁

In answer to the opening headline, is it because they don't have Clive Lloyd or Wasim Akram playing for them?
