Why wasnt MA afforded the ‘styles crap but we will survive’ mantra?

Keep seeing the mindset this afternoon of ‘the football won’t be great but as long as he keeps us up, they’ll do for me’

Genuinely interested - why would MA not be afforded the same mindset? Despite IF he won two or three games, as soon as he lost one it was back to square one again.

Interesting shift in perception in the space of a few hours, and interesting to see how it unfolds

Because he took over before the season started and put us into a relegation battle with 19 games to go after ten games without a win? Possibly?
This is with the benefit of hindsight. We had fans writing off MA before a ball had been kicked and seemingly waiting for us to fail.
Unfortunately this ultimately came to pass and we find ourselves in the position we are in.

In no way was I MA’s biggest supporter, but we need to give what ever coach/ manager a chance from the start.

It's a results business, MA just wasnt getting any, am hardly buzzing about a potential MM though, as it doesn't seem to fit us.

Mick McCarthy can get teams playing some great football. I think he,s an ideal match for the Pool in his twilight years.
Relegation avoided, make him director of football and the mouth piece ,young coach beside him and he ho the chariot rolls on.

It's not hindsight, as you correctly identify in your second sentence! And I was simply answering the question in the OP. So far as I understood it anyway

How many games does McCarthy get before we turn on his style of football if it doesn't bring the results we want? It's going to be awful to watch, which is fine if we win, but what if results return to Appleton levels after any "new manager bounce"

currently the team is awful to watch devoid of any tactical nous, repeating the same chit tactics game after game expecting a different result. Mick brings football nous in abundance and passion in his teams is a given, that although not the beautiful game we all crave will be a lot more exciting to watch, in the short term. If it gets results that will set the adrenaline going too.

He wouldn’t win two or three games that’s the issue, to not win in 10 is ridiculous.

He’s lost the dressing room, fallen out with half of the players.

Doesn’t respect the fans and the fans don’t respect him.

Talks shite and plays us down & almost belittles us.

You need any more reasons why he isn’t afforded the same mind set?

That's because no fucker wanted him in the first place, but most of us accepted it & hoped to be proved wrong. For lots of reasons it didn't happen. McCarthy if true would be here as a firefighter & we should get behind him & the team. Something had to be done, that's for sure.

I remember at the start of the season when he set up the team to play ball to feet and we used to start and play fast, it was night and day over Critch.

But by the end, he was reverting to turgid long balls to the big lumps, a million miles away from what we started as.
Yet those turgid long balls that brought no joy at all are now the answer under MM with our squad?

MM looks like a short-term appointment till summer though and responsibilities have changed to survival in the championship.
If he can deliver the task of avoiding relegation then I don't think anyone can complain about the style if it's effective.

It would be down to a long-term manager to create a side that can play attractive football with results.

But we really are assuming that MM would play that way though, we don't know what he will do with the squad that he will inherit, especially regarding Bowler and Rodgers!

Personally would prefer a progressive up-and-coming manager type, but I guess dinosaur managers have their time and place if it does the given job required of them.

Anyone watching our games knows that MA lost the confidence sometime after the Coventry game; Middlesbrough we did not even look competitive at this level

Simple. You either have style or fight. If you are lucky you have both but under Appleton we had neither. That’s why he was potted and offered no respect.

He was probably told around then he wouldn't be getting the players he wanted to strengthen the squad with or to suit his formation. Sacking the manager and bringing someone new in is the cheap, simple option and temporarily just takes the attention away from the fact that the squad simply is not good enough at this level.

Give it time. This was McCarthy at Ipswich.

How long before the players get sick of the basic hoofball tactics?

A) Because Appleton came in on the promise of attacking football, it was the opposite sentiment

B) Because Appleton was given a 4 year contract as opposed to a 6 month survival remit

It’s really quite simple.
We played well for the first 25 mins v Reading.

Barrow was an abysmal performance

And why did it change Ste?
