Strangely enough this is a tactic Appleton is known to prefer at previous clubs. One of the journalists (possibly Scrafton given he’s Lincoln) did a tactical analysis shortly after his appointment and Appleton prefers a deeper line of engagement when defending and prefers to defend crosses into the box as opposing to letting the opposition play the ball into the box. I must admit I was happy about this when originally reading it as we had 2 good GK’s and a solid well drilled defence with Marv looking imperious most games…
