Wigan

So the 4 points that were suspended will come into play for the start of next season so minus 8. Then if they don’t pay the the players/staff wages on the 2nd June another punishment will be given. They are all due to be paid twice in June 2nd and 30th and I really can’t see this happening
They may get a further points deduction and a transfer embargo( if this isn’t already in place)
What players are going to sign for Wigan the state it’s in?
I can’t see them getting out of this mess with their current owners ? Can You ?

I understand there is a written regulation on the financial running of a club, and with it comes penalisations if not adhered to, but when the likes of Manchester United’s losses run into billions and don’t get penalised I feel for the likes of Wigan.

Granted it helps us , but you have to feel for their fans.

Their wage bill was something like £12m for the season they got promoted and was increased last season. They have signed players on big wages and long contracts so not easy to move them on as other clubs are not willing to pay those type of wages. This is all fine if the owner continues to fund it (makes it a lot more difficult if you get relegated) but once the money runs out there is usually only one outcome.

United pay their players I guess. Debts exist in different ways.

Didn't you say the same thing about the Oystons

Mushroom
I said I never had to rattle buckets for loose change from a disinterested Blackpool public in Hounds Hill Shopping Centre to try to keep the club alive the following week, like I found myself doing in the early 80's with a handful of die hard fans, as the club considered selling Bloomfield Road and ground sharing at Deepdale to try to stay alive.

Anyway, to compare that to the millions SS has put in is just daft and if you are going to bring up silly things from the past, maybe you should stick to your 2nd hand subutteo sets you once appealed for on here.Even the bloody Oystons weren't that much of a cheap skate!!! 😁

Easiest way to move them on is not to pay them, so the contracts become invalid.

They will still need paying as per their contract unless players move to other clubs as their contract is invalid. Players won't do that for less money

They can invalidate their contracts if they get a better offer, which they won’t. Until and unless they do that, the wages are still owing and are a football debt that can’t be written off or reduced in administration
I get that, but the players become free agents and can attract better signing on fees to compensate for lower wages (if they're any good of course) as the club won't get a transfer fee.

It’s entirely dependent on the players agreeing to invalidate the silly contracts Wigan gave them. There’s no incentive to do so

As someone else said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them fold unless the Whelan family step back in. The current owners clearly don’t have the funds.

Wigan owner talking about maybe taking legal action against the EFL haha
They were given a deadline of the 24th which was then extended to 9am this morning with nothing paid so it’s not the EFL at fault here
5/6 times this season they’ve failed to pay the players wages on time also failed to pay the £10,000 fine and failed to deposit the 125% to a club account. He’s saying an 8 figure sun is due to be available imminently so let’s see if he’s bullshitting again and the players and staff all get paid next Friday

I’m not concerned about Wigan, I don’t like to see any club in trouble, whatever the circumstances, my only interest is in my club and getting straight back up, if that’s possible.

More to the point, even if they did do so, the players would still be entitled to compensation for any difference between their Wigan contract, and any new contract they might sign up to.

Hopefully Pilley's funds will run dry and the Cods will get a similar punishment .. they're never far than 8 points away from relegation.

I think that all football fans need to be concerned because it could affect any club unless something is done. I want us to go up but not if we have to pay wages we can’t afford to do so, and Wigan are hardly an isolated case.
Football has become an uneven playing field with so many clubs willing to gamble above their means. There are even some on here suggesting Sadler should sell up to someone willing to spend more. Personally I’m more than happy with an owner who is not willing to join the band of kamikaze owners and risk the survival of the club. Too many of these owners come in with the promise of great things but are unable to deliver and they have to be controlled.

Not really if they hadn't have had 2 Championship relegations they would have been about 16 million quid better off

Ah but that's the point isn't it surely Phil?

Committing to player contracts when in the glory league is fine ... but if you don't manage the situation correctly and then you get relegated once, or even twice ... the bill for those lovely players with their fancy cars and houses will come back to haunt you.
