Which bird seed for the garden do you recommend?
Need to buy it online for delivery so if any Avftters has a good link that the Robins, Blackbirds and Wood Pidgeons will enjoy?
Even got Moorehens coming sometimes

Spend a bit extra and get the no mess seed. Otherwise you'll get stuff growing everywhere or husks all over the floor.

We used to get 3 or 4 peacocks in the garden that were pets at a nearby farm.
Now they are a nuisance.

It's the RSPB Garden bird watch weekend if anyone is looking for something to do with the Kids or if you like a bit of twitching

Chunky, I ain’t read anything but your OP. I have about 12 feeders out on my trees and a bird table and bird bath , I love watching the birds.

Buy a range of seeds, fat balls, suet shapes, half coconuts stuffed with Suet and feed etc etc and the accompanying feeders/holders. Buy a birdbath. Relax, enjoy ....once one or two birds discover your garden their noise will alert others and you will have Bluetits, Starlings, Thrushes, Blackbirds, Pigeons, Squirrels (cheeky gits), a territorial Robin and many more .....

buy it all as cheap as you can....B and M bargains is good for cheap seed of various types.......My Garden is full to chocka with Birds including all of the above and more

Can't feed birds in my garden as the cat will have them.

Must be the only cat in history that shits in her own garden too!

Get plenty to watch visiting the neighbours.

Had some form of bird of prey thing a little while ago; had a turtle dove around Christmas which was quite poetic. Only the one though.

A mixture of foods will attract and help a mixture of birds. Remember that some birds are "ground feeders" so need a flat platform to feed from. Seed, suet and nuts will meet most bird's needs.

I have put out mealworms, peanuts, bird seed and fat balls. Next door attracts beautiful small birds with flashes of yellow and blue and red. Seriously we get manky starlings and shitehawks. No offence to starlings and shitehawks.

Moorhens like mealworms and floating duck food - which you can get from Sudells. We had a couple of large bags delivered this week for £1 delivery charge. When I say large, I mean large. Usually take some out with us when out for a walk where expect to see ducks / swans / moorhens.

We used to just chuck some stale bread on the washhouse/coalhouse roof (which could have doubled up as an air raid shelter, had the war not finished 10 years before it was built) the birds went crazy for it. Personally I do like nature & seeing a Blackbird cock it's head whilst listening for a worm before the struggle to catch it always makes me smile.

I've currently got 3 feeders on the go, peanuts, niger seeds and sunflower hearts. The hearts are the favourites.

Depends what you get in the garden, @Chunkylad, but as Insider says - sunflower hearts are a big favourite. Niger is good for Goldfinches, Greenfinches and Siskins, but all will go for sunflower hearts as well so definitely get some of those.

I'd also recommend fat balls at this time of year, full of energy at a time where there is less food about (but be prepared for a bit more mess). Tray of mixed seeds, dried mealworms and suet pellets good for your ground feeders (Robins, Dunnocks, Blackbirds et al) - but a good rule of thumb is to see what's popular and replenish with that.

As someone's mentioned, Wilko is decent and cheap. RSPB if you are feeling charitable.
