Will EFL ever wake up to streaming games?

So haven't got in to the world of dodgy firesticks etc but my mate has invited me round tomorrow as he has bought a year pass to TW and watches on a VPN (way too technical for me). So don't feel too bad as at least he's put money in the club but surely the ELF have to start offering the opportunity for away fans to watch their team and legitimately pay for it?

It’s a commercial issue not compliance. The clubs, media companies could set the stream fee low enough that it’s not worth using tech to get around it.

They choose not to

Is that the naughty ELF on the shelf ?

Unfortunately, if they did it for the EFL games, they would also need to do it for the PL games as well. And I can't see the PL or PL teams wanting to reduce the massive TV income they currently get

Probably also worth noting that the new EFL broadcast deal with Sky was only signed this year, and runs until the 2028/29 season. So the situation is unlikely to change until the 29/30 season at the earliest.

If the game is on Sky, then no streaming, I think people would understand the reasoning for that.

However, there should be options to buy streaming. I can't see why for example home games shouldn't be available for a couple of quid for STH's who maybe can't make the game for whatever reason.

It's also a huge connect for exiles and people who can't go as often as they'd like.

However, like most football things there seems to be a reluctance from anyone in charge to try and address these things, or do anything different to that set in stone. And that's not just true of the EFL, but of FC's when it comes to pricing.

It’s not the EFL, it’s actual legislation that you can’t show 3pm games until 5pm. It includes foreign games, I remember El Classico kicking off at 4:45 and no broadcaster could show the first 15 mins

You're never going to get round IPTV as it's £40 a year (apparently 🙄), but the fact that you cannot legally pay to watch a sat afternoon game is ridiculous - there have been studies showing it would have a negligible impact on match day attendance.

I agree with that.

Most plastics I know would love to go to see their Prem team but cannot get tickets barring crazy prices corporate crap.

Allowing 3pm Saturday stream in UK would have no impact on this. Plus as you say, everyone just gets IPTV to get round not having their team available

I have done the same since the demise of the stains even though I get to most home games.
There must be lots of fans like you who would love to put some extra cash into the club on a Saturday.

Depends at a tenner no as proven with the pathetic I-Follow numbers during Covid a few quid then some will be in.

Then there's the production Charlton away was like Sky ours is garbage in comparison so if your to charge a premium everyone needs to up their game.

Difficult one seven in our group all ST holders would any of us pay when we've all got IPTV probably not.

Why don't they trail it for a season. If total revenue falls then scrap it.

I think they'd make more doing it.

Some comma's, would be handy, in this post.

Until a couple of years ago I was a ST holder who did a 340 mile round trip for home games and also travelled to at least half of away games. Due to the leukaemia last year I didn't have a ST or attend any matches and, since in remission, only attend a few matches now. I would love to pay the TTV £10 per match for those matches I wouldn't be going to anyway.

good luck with the remission pete. i had Hodgkins Lymphoma back in 2006. Aged 46. i will be 64 next month. its generally about seven years till full remission. every six months check up then its every twelve months. unless they have changed the discharge program.

Do you not have anyone who can sort a VPN on a firestick /laptop for you?
