Will Henderson now be a distraction?

We made a solid start today and against expectation our best player was Phillips, taking on the Hendo role and in my opinion upping it a notch with positive running and forward passes. Will Southgate be tempted to bring his "go to" central midfielder back? Personally I'd start with same again on Friday, maybe swapping Tripper out for an attacking left footed full back.

No reason to change anything in front of the back four. Can only see Foden getting dropped for Friday as there was a couple of things in the game that even whilst we won't have a problem with it will have reminded his boss he's still a kid, albeit a very talented one. Didn't last too much longer after the yellow card.

Seems to trust Kieran Trippier at left back in the same way Neil Critchley has no qualms with putting a full back at centre half. The FA DNA thing that is being coached into coaches nowadays.

I get the impression it's going to be Grealish or Foden rather than both at the same time, so maybe he'll rotate them on Friday.

I just think that Foden is a little more direct than Grealish although either of them will cause problems in the opposition's defence.

Let's not be too harsh on him. Southgate clearly recognises the influence he has being in and around the squad off the field. Not sure how much game time he'll get but I do think Southgate will make one or two changes for friday.

Possibly, though I can only see Grealish being in the squad because you can have 26 and you're allowed five subs so might as well get him in and see how he is. The coaches seem more taken by Jude Bellingham who can seemingly do a bit of allsorts with minimum supervision.
You'd never have said that prior to Grealish getting injured and before it was announced that it would be 26 man squad not 23. Prior to Grealish being injured Southgate pretty much acknowledged that Grealish was undroppable so I really don't see how you come to the conclusion that if it had been a 23 man squad he wouldn't have made it.

Calvin Phillips was immense as to be fair he has been all season with Leeds. Considering Henderson is not fit, I'd be keeping him as back up only tbh although I'm sure he's good to have around the place. I'd still want grealish in myself, he just has that bit of magic about him. Foden was decent, Sterling I thought was okay too though so tough choices ahead.

You have to make room in the team for a player like grealish - the team should be built round him to me.

Let's hope Hendo is brought on for the goalscorer Foden with 15 minutes to go in the final to protect our one nil lead from France's flailing efforts 🏝️ 👍

Can't remember him pretty much acknowledging that Grealish is undroppable but have seen comments from Southgate where he's said he's clearly a talented player but that there's a risk of over use because of the injury he's been carrying and having to manage how he trains.

With the extra three squad players (and five subs in a game) allowed it looks to me like that's a risk that can be taken. Same with Henderson and Maguire. Grealish will play some part but I'm not sure it's going to be a full 90 minutes.
He made the comments before his injury.

He really wound me up taking the penalty from DCL, even if he'd scored it would have been out of order but the fact he missed makes it so much worse. A leader figure in the dressing room snatching a potential goal from a young striker in a friendly prior to his first senior tournament, disgraceful.

Huge problem integrating injured players now in the middle of a tournament, only positive I can see for him and Maguire (depending how far along the latter is) is that our hardest game of the group is done now which could open the door for them getting minutes. I think a bigger conundrum is integrating Maguire, losing Henderson for this tournament wouldn't be the biggest of blows with the amount of quality we already have in the midfield - whereas getting Maguire back is massive.

So to answer the OP, I wouldn't go out of our way to re-integrate him if we're doing well.

Lets get something straight....Henderson is not an International class footballer, and if you've seen his performances against good International opposition, you will be aware of that.

Do you then include him in the team for his purported motivational skills? As Ive intimated before, if you play for your Country and need motivation, you clearly shouldn't be playing.

We have a team rammed full of attacking potential, in ALL areas of the team. Henderson only knows one way .... pass sidewards, pass backwards and repeat. Its negative playing and should be consigned to the football dustbin.

Make him a coach, but don't ever let his motivational skills be an excuse for playing in this team again.
