Will those three defeats cost us?

Just looking at the League One table from a couple of seasons ago and Champions Luton lost 6 games and second placed Barnsley 7 games all season (although both drew 13) - so, in effect, we have used half of our lives (and lost to 3 very average sides - still got some much bigger tests ahead .. have we already blown the season?

Well, its cost us 9 points that's for sure! Its gonna be a strange old season is my prediction.

If we have a higher win to draw ratio we will be fine. A lot of teams that aren't necessarily beaten lose points from having too many draws that are winnable games.

53 assuming the two new centre backs cement their respective places in the starting eleven we are nevertheless still playing catch up and of course they have to get used to playing together and with the rest of the back four - something you normally work on in pre-season

So for me the delay in addressing what was always from the start a fundamental issue has cost us - that said I am just relieved we now have options there

Under normal circumstances I’d feel better if we’d won the one game at home and lost the rest as away matches. Can’t afford too many home defeats etc....but this isn’t a normal season as results in the Prem are showing so a few surprise wins away might arrive and we recover. Let’s see where we are by Xmas.

When we went up in 2001 under McMahon, we lost 18 games,

As I've said many time now in the 2006/7 season after 11 games we had only 7 points. The old board was in meltdown with people calling for the manager's head even though the team were playing well . We all know what happened from then on. I can see similar happening again this season. Oviously the longer it takes for the results to come the harder it will be to gain promotion.

To me getting to the play offs is probably the best we are likely to achieve this season, barring a major shift in fortunes, and I would be happy with that.
We are still a bit short in midfield unless Virtue comes good, and up front unless Madine is given a chance, and can do the job.
So many new players it will take time and all outcomes are still possible. Even a brush with relegation or worse if NC cannot turn performances into results, but I suspect there will be enough really weak teams at the bottom anyway to prevent that.

As said, it's cost us nine points but if we are good enough then it shouldn't be a problem catching up. Long way to go.

We won't go down and probably have ;less than a 50% chance of going up, given all the change in personnel. So maybe we should all chill out and just enjoy the football without all the self imposed stress?

As far as TAM's comment about leaving it til now to address the issue at the back, we were obviously trying to sign Ballard and Grettarson weeks ago, but their clubs held on to them until the international deadline. We could have looked for other players, but maybe the club decided to wait to get those two. Only 4 games gone so far. 42 left. We have been trying to bring in players for a while. Rome/24 hours. Too much criticism IMO, mostly groundless.
