Be in trouble again with the efl for the following
Players still not been paid their wages for April that were due beginning of May
Fielding a much weakened team against Rotherham on Monday There was only 5 players on the pitch that played the previous game at Reading and 7 academy players on the bench whom none was on the bench for against Reading
Players apparently refused to play against Rotherham on Monday and the ones that did play were Lang,McClean,Tiehi,Whatmough and Hughes ??

Their owner had written an open letter on their website the month before saying it would never happen again. Clearly doesn't have the funds himself to run that club. Fear for them next season. They won't believe a word that comes out of his mouth from now on.

It's worse than what has been posted above, the owner decided to only pay those under contract next season and has refused to pay those that are out of contract at the end of June. Slap them with another points deduction, 20 should do it!

Also because the players contracts are being breached by the club would they be able to walk away from their contacts should they want to??
I believe some were paid on time others paid late, so those paid on time are obviously those they intend to keep

Those paid on time are the ones under contract (who potentially have a sale value, however modest)

They still have to find three months’ wages for the out-of-contract players, whether they like it or not …

Bit of a sad story when you dig in to it - owner lost his son last year and has just lost all direction and business sense. Either way I reckon there’ll start next season with a points deduction.

I think a definate points deduction will be given for the start of their league one season. Sad situation for the players and fans Fans always the ones to suffer tho as we know only too well

Their case is being referred to an independent disciplinary commission very shortly, apparently.

It will be a surprise if they don't get a sanction of some kind. Not that this is necessarily the worst of their problems.

Southend are due in Court next Wednesday as well. That one might be adjourned. Which would give them time, but keep them under a transfer embargo.

Vey worrying times for both of them.

Not sure if it was Wigan or Reading who are owned by a foreign company and when the wage money moves to a British bank it’s gets stopped, due the amounts involved, for money laundering checks and thats why they keep missing pay day.

From the BBC

We understand Wigan players are growing increasingly frustrated & angry with wages still not paid this month.

It's believed only a handful of squad members have been paid with the PFA stepping into assist players, the club & EFL.

Didn’t they pay just the ones under contract for next season ? Out of order if so.

As I understand it this is the issue Wigan continually have.

how MANY clubs has this happened to. Morecambe A WHILE back. TOO many clubs do it to avoid whatever they think they shouldnt pay. WIGAN used to be Dave Whelan BUT if the son has been going through personal trauma then maybe we should give benefit of the doubt. i

New statement this morning - interesting they talk about a sustainable budget - bearing in mind Wigan's crowds I can't see that being very high.

WIGAN ATHLETIC CAN PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING UPDATE IN REGARD TO WAGES AND THE FUNDING OF THE FOOTBALL CLUB.

All remaining playing and non-playing staff have now been paid.

The ownership group, Phoenix 2021 Limited, has committed a substantial seven figure sum to Wigan Athletic to secure the immediate future of the Club. The EFL has visibility of this amount.

Phoenix 2021 Limited under the ownership of Mr Abdulrahman Al-Jasmi and Wigan Athletic FC Chairman Talal Al Hammad insist they are fully committed to the Club.

Chairman, Talal Al Hammad, has released the following statement:

I firstly want to apologise again to all staff, players, fans and wider stakeholders for the stress this delay has caused.

As an ownership group we have invested well in excess of £20m since we came on board in 2021. Clearly mistakes have been made and this investment has not been spent in the right areas meaning finances this season have been difficult to sustain.

This latest payment will ensure our wage obligations are secured until we finalise a sustainable budget for next season. There will also shortly be announcements made regarding board and staff re-structures which will help us deliver this.

I finally again want to reassure all Wigan Athletic staff, players and fans that Mr. Al Jasmi and I are fully committed to the Club with Manager Shaun Maloney at the helm.

The Club will make no further comment at this stage.

Will it be enough to stave off a penalty though
