Wimbledon 2023 Thread.

Tremendous tennis today . Murray also gives immense support to lots of the junior players , attending matches, mentoring , encouraging .
He's a great ambassador and any youngsters who want to succeed in the game should learn to make the most of their talent, work bloody hard at their game and never never give up .
A Legend of the game is an accurate description for Andy Murray . Whether you like him or don't , got to admire the guy for hanging about and being so very bloody minded about a sport he obviously loves . Not bad for a mega multi millionaire . A few of footballs rich n nasties could learn a lot about how to conduct themselves on and off the pitch

Is it me or is this the most boring Wimbledon ever?
Not sure if it's because I was engrossed in the Ashes but have hardly paid attention and when I have put it on I've not had the faintest idea who anyone is. Where have all the big names and players gone?

Good point, my mate who is a tennis fanatic said to me yesterday that he'd never heard of one of the women who are in the quarter finals

Why are they allowing a Russian to play?
He/they should be banned.
Please no 'It's nothing to do with Tennis'.
Everything is to do with the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
OK, it's not the players faults, but a message should be sent to the Russians.

I agree actually. I would also imagine that neither of the Russian's left in the men's and women's draws actually live in Russia mind. Probably the South of France.

It is spectacularly dull, Djokovic is going to win the men's and always was, the big four dominated for so long and still there's no one at that level coming through so he's got no competition really. The women's side is going through one of those phases where everyone is much of a muchness.

Unless Alcaraz proves himself to be as good as it appears he might be, the mens game is going to be wide open for years once Djokovic calls it a day.

Is that a bad thing? Almost right through my whole time watching tennis both sides have had a dominant player/s - it's only as the Williams girls have finally started to fade that the ladies could be won by a dozen or more, without anyone being really surprised.

There was a whole generation in the mens below the big three who were one small step behind them and regularly went a long way in tournaments. Occasionally it was good enough - Murray, Wawrinka, Berdych etc. There's no shame in being a step behind three of the greatest of all time - people used to slag Henman, he was a brilliant grass court player and decent all weather surface, obv struggled on clay, but his only real crime was to be around at the same time as Sampras. Without him, he'd have won Wimbledon.

So take Djokovic out of the draw, and I really wish someone would do the sulky git, and the new mob all in their early 20s can throw the game wide open for the next 10-15 years.

I saw Mandlikova beat Navratilova on centre court 1981. Ladies semis. Evert beat Shriver in tother. My only visit to Wimbledon.
That would have been after she was told to cover up. Perhaps it was in the previous year, she just used to wear her top with nothing underneath. Problem was, with the heat and exercise it soon became see through.
