Winter on Rhodes future

Blackpool CEO Julian Winter has told the Blackpool Gazette that he doesn’t know whether top scorer Jordan Rhodes will be recalled or not, but that he does expect any decision to be made early.

The prolific striker is on loan at Blackpool from Huddersfield Town, and he’s been in sensational form. He’s hit 11 League One goals since his move in August, and that form could prompt Darren Moore to take him back to West Yorkshire. As yet, the Terriers’ position is unclear, but Winter admitted a recall was possible within a certain window.

There’s a window which they can trigger a recall, but it’s in their court,” he told the Blackpool Gazette.
“I don’t think I’ve ever come across a club that leaves it late if they want a loan player to return; they usually make that decision pretty quickly. We’ll know relatively early in January if that’s the case, but it’s not within our gift. We’ve just got to prepare for that possibility.”

That means having a recruitment plan in place, should the 33-year-old be called back to the John Smith’s Stadium. They’re currently embroiled in a relegation battle and could swap places with high-flying Blackpool next season. If they do choose to recall, Winter confessed a plan would be put into place.
“The recruitment team is constantly working on options for all scenarios, and that’s an obvious one- everyone will talk about Jordan and say ‘what if.’
“We don’t know what Huddersfield are thinking at this stage. He’ll concentrate with us, and we’ll see what happens- hopefully, it’s a positive outcome for us.”

Rhodes has been a revelation since moving to the west coast, but he’s scored goals pretty much throughout his career. He bagged 87 times in 148 outings for Huddersfield in his first stint there, with 85 in 169 appearances for Blackburn Rovers.
Spells at Sheffield Wednesday (17 in 95) and Huddersfield a second time (10 in 64) have been less prolific, but he’s rediscovered his shooting boots for Neil Critchley’s side, who are eighth in League One and hunting an immediate return to the second tier following relegation last season.
Blackpool’s other strikers have struggled in front of goal, with Shayne Lavery hitting four goals and Jake Beesley chipping in with three.

So absolutely nothing to tell us we didn't know.

You probably think if Rhodes is recalled the sky will fall in, Russia will invade and all future Christmases will be cancelled such is the level of your miserableness.
Not really. That's already happened which is why fans want Critchley out.

Rhodes out of contract summer 2024 so Huddersfield should be selling him in January
We should hopefully be trying to buy him

Talking to my HTFC mate this morning says they dont want him as he is not championship standard anymore !

I live just outside Huddersfield and regularly attend town games when pool are not playing, and they desperately want him back! They think his prolific form is going to save them from a relegation battle.

Completely illogical reply.

If you are comparing Jake Beesley scoring a few in a tinpot cup to Rhodes 11 in the league then football isn't for you.
My point is you can twist statistics any way you want to suit your agenda, for example Rhodes has had a lot more starts than Beesly, how do there goals per stat compare?
If you don't understand statistics maybe reasonable debate isn't for you.

Just been having a nosey of the Udders board a good few fans want him back in January.
I wonder if the people who count do?
Think we’ll struggle to keep him is my gut feeling.

The problem they have is he's getting good service with us, if they can't provide that service for him at Hudds, he's not going to be scoring like he is for us! Their manager will know that and it will play a part in whatever decision he makes.

I don't see Rhodes as the solution to their problems, alone, but desperate people sometimes make desperate decisions.

Ha, I can have a reasonable debate. Another start for Rhodes and Beesley and another two goals for a FAR superior striker.

Even Beesley would acknowledge himself he isn't as good. Your response was that JR takes penalties.

You're clearly a bit thick.

Masters degree in engineering, which included. Module on statics, which is obviously why I have a superior knowledge of stats and why you have to resort to insults.

I expect HTFC will recall Rhodes. He is in form and it’s effectively a free transfer for a reborn striker with little downside risk. It’s a no-brainer I am afraid, given the value of retaining Championship status.

But they will cover themselves with signing another proven forward. As, at the moment, they only have one fully fit striker. According to a mate who’s a ST holder at HTFC.

Our interest may be rekindled at the end of the season when JR’s contract is up. If HTFC stay up and JR contributes significantly to that they may grant him another year at a higher wage than we will pay, unless we can get promoted. If HTFC go down they might think JR can still perform at this level. But they might think they have to rebuild. It’s complicated and depends on the second half of the season for both clubs and the player himself.

I think he will be recalled unless we make a reasonable offer for him in January. The question is, will we do so? And if not, what other options will the club follow up?

A difficult decision. Knowing how much we rely on him currently HTFC will demand a top price. To partly fund a replacement for which they in turn will be charged highly for. That’s the nature of the January transfer window. So I think that HTFC will simply recall him.

Ideally, we should have negotiated an option when the loan was set up, to buy JR at a set price in January. But perhaps HTFC were always going to recall him and just wanted him to get some game time to sharpen up.

We didn’t know whether or not Huddersfield had told the club they are going to recall .

I didn’t know there was a specific window during jan where they have to trigger the recall.

I found the info fairly informative .
