Women worlds cup.

Each to their own, but I’m watching as much of it as I can (recording where necessary!)
It’s not as skilful as top flight men’s game, nor as consistent, but the errors make it more enjoyable at times, and there’s less (not entirely none) cynicism, less arguing with the ref, and less rolling around the floor in fake agony.
I’ve just watched the Philippines score their first ever goal at a World Cup, and the pure ecstasy on their faces when they went on to win was brilliant.

This sums it up pretty well. I've watched a few games with my daughter and she absolutely loves it. I'm just glad that she has women to look upto as well as men in football now.

It doesn't help the excitement level with the games being on so early in the morning. The last World Cup in France and the Euros proved that the women's game is well worth watching.

With this tournament I think we're seeing a bit of a swansong for the Americans, an understrength England side and a general improvement from a number of other countries so it's wide open. The best thing so far for me has been the lesser teams doing so well; long may that continue.

I was surprised at how good Haiti were when they played us. We were tipped to slap them 6-0 but actually they were well organised, very good in the press and we were lucky to win that. Overall its been a good tournament so far.

We’re definitely not as strong as we were for the Euros.
Apart from the obvious key injuries, we’re also weakened by Ellen White’s retirement - all 3 of our key subs from the Euros (Toone, Russo and Kelly) are now having to start, and I’m not sure they are going to be as effective in that role just yet.
Always a chance, though.

Well if the lionesses do well . Which i think they might. i will be in the pub cheering them on. its just the group games which seem to go on forever, Then its like any major tournament . the really good matchups appear later on.

My teenage self would be thoroughly aroused by the chance to watch 22 (23 with referee) lesbians running around on a pitch in footy kits for 90 mins!!! 😍

My older self is horrified by what a misogynist I was and am just enjoying it as bloody good sport. Entertainment is entertainment is it not?

Get behind the Lionesses. They blooming well give it their all and make us proud.

Sounds like your younger self would have loved to get behind them
nudge nudge wink wink say no more 😍

I watched a bit of the England game but that's about it. It just doesn't get my interest really. I hope we do well and will cheer them on in the latter rounds but i find it a poor view really. Like I said though Ill tube in to the knockouts probably.

watched 3 games no more its dreadful and the screeching comms make it very hard to listen too .Some people refuse to support teams still unbvelievabley supporting a racist divisive organisation as well.

The standard is sunday league at best. A good sunday league team from round here would pummel the yanks, who are head and shoulders better than anyone else. Each to their own.

Is the o/p John Major's Tom or John and a Bowie song! Very confusing.
Not seen any of it myself - not really a choice thing just hasn't been on when I have very rarely stuck the TV on.

Am really pleased how it's going for the women and TV audiences are increasing but the wife said last night 'shall we go out early on Saturday' so you can be back for the Women's World Cup and have to say I wasn't arsed!

We have a decent team, albeit hampered by some big injuries. No one can argue that the standard is brilliant, it isn't, but it is getting better and as with all sports, it is great to see any England team do well. The fact that so many young girls now have the opportunity to play football, cricket, etc, is a good thing. I've seen bits of the 100 involving the ladies teams, the attendances are good and again it's great to see so many families at the various grounds.

The good thing is that there are more teams getting better and this tournament is by far the most competitive so far. As Newbury says the standard is improving albeit from a very low base in some cases, and the technical skills have come on in leaps and bounds.

It's great that young girls have so many more sporting options these days, and great role models. I'm a bit concerned about the impact of football's increasing popularity on the future recruitment of female hockey players; a women's sport that we've always played to a high standard. Hopefully there are just more girls playing sport and they haven't just switched from one to another.

Ian Wright making some very valid points on Vernon Ka’s radio 2 show today.

About how a woman should not need to have worked in the male game to prove herself as a quality player or manager.

There's always things that Men do better than women for some reason and vice versa and I'm talking about life in general. In football it's goalkeeping and the women really struggle with it . It drags the game down as a spectacle and it's like a comedy at times. To add to that it's like the elephant in the room with commentators and pundits who tend to not really call it honestly. To be fair Mary Earps is the exception to the rule .
