Would Holloway have got a statue?

I imagine his most recent comments are another nail in his legend status coffin for most fans. I find it insane he has always refused to make a negative comment towards the Oyston's but he has felt it his duty to call out Blackpool (and in effect Sadler) labelling it as an "absolute disgrace".

However, in an alternate world where Holloway after his departure from Blackpool had never upset fans, do you think a statue would eventually have been commissioned outside the ground? Do you still think there will be someday? Obviously you can not discredit what he did for the club

Nah. Statues are for legends who've given 20 plus years of time and commitment.
At best they'll name a corporate lounge after him - at very best.

We don't have a statue for the manager who won the FA Cup. But we would have one for the bloke that finished 18th in the Prem?

Such is the fascination with all things Premier League it wouldn't surprise me if many thought Holloway's was a bigger achievement.
Aye Joe Smith. manager from 1935 to 1958. Won promotion to the top flight in 1937 where the club stayed throughout his tenure and including three FA Cup finals, finishing runners-up in the top flight.

He already has one, doesn't he? They wheel it out on Quest every other Saturday night.

Every attention seeking media whore knows that to maximise coverage is to slag off something they were once associated with in a good way and thus emphasise the schism between them. Obviously being Manager of lowly Grimsby isn’t pulling in the journalists gaze he so hungers for on a day to day basis hence this outburst, which has nudged everyone to say “Hey! I’m still here, alive and relevant” - which obviously he isn’t and is firmly yesterdays man and that’s where he should stay!

Now lets slap him down and beat his beloved Gasheads.

He was phenomenally good for us. However, even at the time you just had to take what he said with a pinch of salt.

I'm with previous posters: Joe Smith for me.

My first game was in 1967. Nearly 53 years ago. The best three years by far were the Holloway years. I'm not into statues but if anyone deserves a statue from the last 50 years it's him, isn't it?

I have to say that I think King Billy Ayre could be recognised a bit better.

I love King Billy but more a cult hero who worked wonders whilst being strangled by the feckin Oyston's. He worked his miracles at a lower level mind and no point in pretending otherwise.

Yep, and I won't comment on Ollie. To me, Billy is a BFC legend, but I do take your point about cult status.

Whatever your thoughts on Holloway, he oversaw the most successful era in a lot of our lifetime playing fantastic football.
Who wouldn’t like that style of play back now? Yes he has his flaws but his achievements can’t be questioned.

At least the statue wouldn’t need a name plate, just put a big mouth on a plinth and everyone would know who it was.

This....

Not for me. Loved the guy when he was here, but the way he left and his comments ever since have tainted the memory somewhat.

As far as statues go, these are reserved for absolute legends. Ollie would fit into the bracket of hero status, albeit only for the short period of 2009-2011. Aside from his achievements with us, he’s shown a complete lack of class at most of the clubs he’s been at.
