Would it help Critch to...

.... speak a bit more about tactical issues? He gives the impression of saying similar after every game... He talks about quality in the final third and so on every week and just described how he saw the game.

What I'd really like is someone to ask him more difficult questions. It's either Chissy or the lad from Club media and neither of them ever say anything like...

"So, Neil - you're losing at home, why don't you change formation or throw someone forward from the back - what's the thinking?"

It's always just..

"Neil, disappointed/happy with that?"

I don't think he's daft, he sounds thoughtful enough as a bloke, but he's not getting the feedback from a crowd and he's not being challenged in interviews either. He's not being made to justify stuff, explain decision making and I think it might help him to do so, both in terms of the fanbase and his own thinking...

I know it's same for everyone, but he's such a rookie and I can't help thinking with 7k fans screaming at him, it might shape his decisions a bit and be part of his thinking.

I know I always feel a bit more on the side of a manager who says stuff like "I was hoping x would happen when I tried y - hold my hands up, it didn't" or "yeah, we've struggled to get decent balls in, we need to rotate a bit more and see what happens with players on their different feet" or whatever.

Just setting him up to give a narrative of the game every single time isn't really doing him favours imho.

yep, good o/p. Seems it's a just a case every week of just getting the managers thoughts and that's it. A lot tougher questions/observations need to be made. He;s getting too easy a ride in that dept at the moment.
For instance, as some-one else said, he seems to come out every week with the same quote that "the balls just not dropping for us". That should be followed up with "why do you think that is? Is it because we're not getting enough men in and around the box and if you're not doing that then how can it drop for us?"

I think the problem is Critchley appears to be the only one who doesn’t think he needs to do anything differently. As I posted on another thread you can’t change things and make them right unless you first acknowledge that something is wrong. From his post match interviews he gives the impression we are just unlucky and keep doing what we are doing and we will be alright. By the time he realises it’s not just bad luck it may be too late.

Chiznutz and follow up quotes? More unlikely than Yates getting any service.

I think he'd be more uncomfortable if challenged than he already is. Surely it's the reason why he's reluctant to bring in experienced players who may challenge his ideas and want changes.

He's probably putting on a united front to the media, we have no idea how he is reacting behind closed doors when he speaks to Garrity and the players.

it is all conjecture as to whether he is pondering changes, sees no issues and all the rest of the things we discuss on here.

The reality is all we can go off is the results & performances on the pitch.

I do think a lack of a crowd has an impact on that. It's much harder to say "oh, we did well" with the sound of discontent ringing in your ears.

That's the problem in a way. Like, say Macca wore his heart on his sleeve and I couldn't help but get behind him even though I thought he could be a bit of a knob.

Critch isn't giving much away and I want to know a bit more.

Yeah I get that, and in time it may come as he grows in to the role and hopefully the results come.
It just feels like because of the situation we're in, everything, understandably, is being over analysed.

It is more in hope than expectation though. I'm still of the opinion that we needed more of the finished article than someone learning on the job. Recruitment has undoubtedly suffered as a consequence of this.

I agree

We should get him on the podcast

I wouldn't mind asking him some questions

In fairness I think Chizz mentioned no shots on target on Tuesday night but as the o/p says it was just a standard answer. Managers nowadays are more slippery than politicians and will never answer a direct question or will change the narrative as soon as they can!

Even the BBC stats had us having 2 shots on target (CJ and Yates). Not like Chissy to get something wrong.
