Yates v lavery

Lavery's operating at a lower level so far more likely to score; he's one ahead already. Injuries can creep in of course, he'll literally be a marked man.
 
If Lavery stays fit - and I do think that’s a big if - he will quite easily out score Jerry’s League 1 year with us.

Getting off to a good start will help him. The first 10 games of 20/21 were bad for Jerry.
 
If we can create chances, Lavery can score a lot of goals in League 1. Probably more than Jerry will score in the Championship. His second on Saturday is the sort of chance he'd have missed previously. Let's hope his confidence is high and his summer games with NorIron have got him right back to full fitness.

As a separate point, I was really pleased to see Jerry score on Saturday. I think he's a cracking player who could really push on in the right set up.
 
In the right team, ie one that creates changes which we did precious little off last season, Jerry has the finishing ability to score 20+ in the Championship.

Would also expect 20+ out of Lavery this season. He certainly looked confident in the 2 he finished on Saturday. And also a little too greedy on a couple of occasions in the 2nd half but that’s to be expected of someone looking for an opening day hat trick.
 
Critch has mentioned building the side around Lavery's strengths. The big question is, if we do that, do we have a Plan B when he isn't on the pitch?

I'm not bothered about Stoke, Swansea or whichever team Jerry actually plays for now .
But I do care for Jerry , he looked so sad in his leaving video and I want to see him doing well because he gave us loads and deserves to do well.

To be fair he wasnt given many chances to score last season was he ? and when that happens any missed are bound to stick in your mind .Must be hard to be given zero service to get your eye in so to speak .Dont recall him missing many because there was very few created .Mo salah misses many more than he scores
 
I'm hoping that as a team that the number of hamstring injuries we incur reduce, that said SL has had 1 a season in his 2 seasons with us so far.
 
Yates has fitness on his side as Lavery has shown some weakness with hamstrings / hopefully he stays fit as I’ve liked him since he joined us, a real terrier who works hard and when fit, confident and not played out of position, is a cracking striker.

Hard to compare Yates in the Championship vs Lavs in L1. Yates is better in terms of pure technical ability, but he does have a tendency to go off the boil at times. Then again, maybe that's unfair, especially last season considering the service he was getting.
 
I think generally players in lower leagues score more than those in higher leagues just because of the weaker defences.
