Yates warming the bench...Again

Why are there two threads about Jerry Yates when we’ve won away from home? Yates was so good for us. His goals in that promotion season, his assist for Kenny’s 2nd in the play off final, his goals in that first season in the champ, his assist for Madine in that win at home to Preston, his goals in the relegation season despite being a part of a really poor team, his goals in the 4-2 win at home to Preston. There wasn’t a game where he didn’t give his all for our badge.
Because we have to have something to moan about, sad really.

We all have our opinions mine would appear to be close to those of Critchley and both Swansea managers this season. He always gave 100% I`ll grant him that but as a striker his scoring rate was poor especially without the penalties, he wasn`t good in the air had no great pace or skill on the ball. Nor a natural goal poachers ability like Rhodes to get in the right place at the right time and not a single assist this season ,not many with us either.
Just 20 something goals the year we went up including a quality goal at Pompey and magic at home to Northampton I think? No skill? You sure? If not watch that goal again.

Class player for us and those two goals v Knob End were alright too.

He's was a great player and character for us, loved him here.

Scored some good, important and memorable goals for us.

Did have his dry spells though which were more accepted for us than it will be elsewhere.

There's similarities to some aspects of his and Joseph's games, but also some differences.

Joseph seems better on the ball, better vision etc.

Probably has a similar engine.

The goals for Joseph will come I'm sure, but little need to say who's better really. Yates did it and Joseph is just getting started.

I don’t think anyone is questioning his commitment, but the question is whether he is good enough for the Championship. According to the Swansea fans it doesn’t sound like it, but, as we all know football fans are fickle.
To say he has been our best player this decade is a bit OTT in my opinion because it is a squad game and maybe Jerry might not have been as good without decent players around him.
As mentioned, his commitment is not in question but the goals did seem to dry up and by comparison Rhodes is far better. What about Dougal, Ekpiteta (even though he’s had some poor spells), has been pretty good in defence when he’s on his game. Lavery has been good for us but has been blighted by injury
Anyway, enough of Jerry, he’s not one of ours anymore.

That term, ‘not good enough for the championship.’ 😂

14 goals in a relegated side suggests he is good enough and wasn’t the problem with regards to the relegation. ‘The goals dried up’ like it was his fault we couldn’t string 3 passes together. Christ

Well said. Some people want to forget that Appleton also wanted him to play as a wing back where he was performing more defensive duties than he was as a striker.

So has anyone any serious names for a contender who has been a better player for Blackpool in THIS decade?

Like i said said Bowler and that's the only player I think was better. Football fans can have very short memories about how good/bad players were. Like for me, Martin Bullock was one of the best players I've seen at Bloomfield Road because I loved him, however if I actually watched old videos of him playing, I would probably change my mind.

Jerry was a great player for us, but wasn't/isn't really the type of player who could be an effective regular striker in a formation ending with a "1", he needed someone up with him, especially a Madine type who could feed him with nod ons if played close enough to him.

If Swansea didn't do their due diligence when buying such a player (then expecting him to thrive in a 4-2-3-1 or whatever they play), then that's their issue, but sadly Jerry seems to be benched as a result.

£3m less the Joseph valuation (am I correct there?) was imo a very reasonable valuation for a proven 20+ L1 goal striker (and 14 in the Championship in a struggling relegated side). To suggest he isn't skillful is just wrong, they really should watch replays of Jerry's goals against Portsmouth and Northampton in our promotion season in particular.

We thought at the time that Swansea had "pulled our pants down". It's only relatively recently that we've seen KJ's real potential after recovering from a bad injury. Glad to have KJ here.

According to the Swansea lads, they paid £3m plus Joseph for him which seems about right when we were rumoured to want £4m + for him.

Doolan, I have never, ever slagged Jerry off and I am merely looking at the situation
Maybe my use of “not goog enough” has been taking out of context but he has not started quite a few games now for Swansea so that in itself says something.
Again the issue of “formations” raises its head and if he played here or there etc then they would get more out of him
I’ve said this a thousand times and it’s all about team work and professional footballers should be skilful enough to adapt to where the manager wants them
I was listening to Gary Bower and he mentioned that Albie Morgan was a managers dream because wherever he plays he just gets on with it.
Sorry but I just don’t buy into this “well he shouldn’t be playing here or there etc”
That is just my opinion by the way and yesterday was a good example. People criticise 3 at the back but if you noticed every time Bristol attacked our midfield dropped back and it was almost like having seven back defending and it worked.
CJ must cover more miles than anyone on a match day (not the best defender) and he is back there helping out.
I’ve seen many times when he has been the furthest man back and then in the next breath he is back up the field with the forwards.

Martin Bullock?! He was erm ok in flashes I suppose! He did score our late winner at Huddersfield I think in some northern final seconds after i said to my mate 'shit, I'm going to miss the last train if this goes to extra time'. So I'll give him that.

I was about 12/13 and though he was the dogs bollocks. I even got his signed photo for Christmas because he was my favourite player. Like I said, if I watch some videos of him now I'd probably change my mine very quickly.

Tom Ince - sorry just checked doesn’t apply ignore

We have a right bunch of weird fucks supporting Blackpool

Every time a player leaves us they turn in to dog shit and people can't wait to slag them off

Yates was quality for us and worked his bollocks off week in week out
Nobody could ever doubt Yates workrate and he scored some very good goals for Pool albeit had a few too many dry spells.
Probably not a championship striker but would be more effective in a two up front.

Working you bollocks off - whilst very much appreciated - alone does not make you a Championship quality striker. Jerry is one of those players - too good for Lg1 but not good enough for the Championship. Whilst he has undoubted skill, his ball retention is poor, he is easily pushed of the ball, his tight control is terrible and as has been said he hits his goals in patches in between long spells of goalless games. If you want to be a Champ quality striker you simply cannot do that. I’m not slagging Jerry off - I’m very much a fan of his, this is just an honest assessment.

My final say on Jerry
When he joined us we were League 1 and he signed for an undisclosed fee (never understood that btw) 3 years with the option of a further one year. He scored 20 league goals and some comp goals making him the highest scorer since Andy Watson. 1993 believe it or not.
When we got promoted he signed another 3 year deal with the option of a further one and scored 8 league goals.
His third season with us (Championship) he scored 13 goals.
In total he scored 42 goals for us in 124 games. 23 of those goals were in League 1 in a total of 44 appearances Approximately a goal every 2 games which is a great return
However, in the 2 Championship seasons he played 80 games and scored 15 goals in all comps. Less than a goal every 5 matches.
It is clear from those stats that he has performed far better in League which is the point I was trying to make
Rhodes scored 7 goals in his first 8 games and scored 15 in all comps so surely that makes him the best player in this decade. Just asking.

Strange that we had fans saying that Swansea got the better end of the deal a few weeks ago. Now Swansea fans are saying that we got the better end of the deal. They're saying he's no better than Joseph. "We paid £3m + Kyle Joseph and I genuinely don’t know if he’s a better player than Kyle Joseph." I don't agree with that, but just shows how quickly things change in football.
Joseph is significantly younger than Yates in football terms so it currently looks like we got the better end of the deal.
