Christmas 1977All around My Hat - Steeleye Span
Just had a quick watch & whilst it was good I'd bet 10 times better live.“Oh those New York Girls can’t they dance the Polka” - Bellowhead.
Aka best live performance band ever.
Saw them at a festival in Stanhope pre Covid, absolute hairs on the back of your neck stuff. Refreshingly British & I'd definitely go to see them again. For me it has to be a song sung by the Unthanks, and my selection is a cover of one of the best Folk songs in recent times, Shipbuilding, a version maybe a lot of you won't have heard.
If you ever get a chance to see them live they are absolutely amazing.
Lindisfarne are designated as a folk rock band so should qualify.mmm...think it's difficult to define where country crosses over into pop. I'd class some of the songs listed above as pop.
sorry meant to say folk not country. Point remains the same though.Lindisfarne are designated as a folk rock band so should qualify.
Yep, probably folk-popsorry meant to say folk not country. Point remains the same though.
Lonnie Donegan did some brilliant covers of Woody's songs.Woody Guthrie: ‘This Land is Your Land.’
I got into Bellowhead a while back but I've never seen them. I've got three albums so far: Hedonism, Burlesque and Broadside. The latter is my favourite.“Oh those New York Girls can’t they dance the Polka” - Bellowhead.

And you won’t get to seem them now as the band broke up a few years ago.I got into Bellowhead a while back but I've never seen them. I've got three albums so far: Hedonism, Burlesque and Broadside. The latter is my favourite.
Yes, and he was instrumental in early ‘pop’ as you’ll probably know, folk, skiffle, blues. Remember a Cadillac pulling up in front of a parade of shops near the Highfield Pub when I lived on Common Edge Rd, in the early 60’s, and out stepped Mr Donegan wearing a cowboy hat which was quite eye catching at the time!Lonnie Donegan did some brilliant covers of Woody's songs.
They are back touring again and are doing a number of gigs in November this year, Liverpool and Manchester the nearest to Blackpool, The Corn Exchange in Cambridge for you Mex!!And you won’t get to seem them now as the band broke up a few years ago.
That said I am booked to see Spiers and Boden at the Stables in Wavendon in June.
Edit to add: I may have been premature. Looks as if they may be doing a “one off” tour this year
First gig I ever went to July 1958 Palace theatre Blackpool Lonnie DoneganLonnie Donegan did some brilliant covers of Woody's songs.
I saw him at the Wolverhampton Grand about '81, I was hoping the Shakin' Pyramids would be the support act after recording Reeferbilly Boogie with Lonnie, disappointed they weren't, I think Lonnie did the whole show; it was brilliant, no fancy lighting effects or pyrotechnics just pure music and entertainment.First gig I ever went to July 1958 Palace theatre Blackpool Lonnie Donegan
Brilliant only realised years later many of his
Songs were Woody Guthrie’s.
(I was 8 at the time)
