Your most annoying Postponed Game

Funny to see us with a postponed game tonight. So what has been your most annoying. Was it Burnley we were due to play one Boxing Day which got postponed?

One season I got to Edgeley Park three times before seeing a game.
1. Boxing Day. Waterlogged pitch. Went to Burnden Park and stood on the away end with Sunderland fans on my way back to Blackpool.
2. Early February. Frosted pitch. Called off at 7.15pm.
3. March. Game on!! Lost.

The worst is going to an away game which gets called off very late. Think I went to Stockport twice in the same season for it to be called off.
Of course our PL fixture against United was a big disappointment to be called off too.

Stockport county away, postponed really late on so ended up in the away end at deep dale with the Chester fans. ** awful game on that horrific plastic pitch.

Yep the Stockport one in Feb for me too . . . it was bloody freezing and I was wandering round the ground wondering where all the fans were !! I think it was early 90s so before mobile phones I guess ?

A couple from a few years ago..

Aldershot away. Called off at 12:30 ish as we were just pulling off the motorway..
Darlington away, new years day. Stood outside the mecca waiting for Beatie's bus, hungover, then heard it had been called off.
The lads in fancy dress were less than impressed.

Man Utd at home.
Booked a holiday and paid an extra £400 as the cheaper deal would have clashed with that game. Missed Wolves at home and Bolton away ( live streams though)and out of pocket!

Darlington away as I stayed semi sober on News Years eve.

Against Newcastle in the 70s I think on my way from Wolverhampton ,with a Newcastle fan only to be told at Preston station game was off ,so pissed off got on wrong train back from Preston ended up first stop Carnforth ** freezing ,waited over an hour for train going to London (could have been worse though could have spent time in prescum)😁 such is life !

In recent memory Sunderland at home being postponed the night before was frustrating. I felt more for the club with the amount of tickets Sunderland had sold, another pay day missed for Sadler that season!

Leyton Orient away, late 90’s or early 2000’s. Got to Leyton station around 2:30 to find out it was off. A heavy day of drinking in London was probably a better option than stood on the open terrace in the driving rain.
Went on the Tango coach that day......had a blow out near Stoke on the M6......got repaired and going again, got to 1/4 mile from the ground, could see the floodlights and the announcement was on the radio that it was off 🤬🤬

A little off topic, but one which should have been postponed and wasn't was a 1-1 draw with Bury when on-loan Andy Payton scored for us. Just looked it up and it was actually 19 years ago to the day!

The half of the pitch that was in the shade hadn't thawed out and was rock solid. Think that was the coldest I've ever been at a football match.

We got to outskirts of aldershot too that game 😮😞

Apart from the Liverpool and Man United ones in the Prem.

Burnley Boxing Day 1995. Some of their fans will wish they hadn't travelled. They bumped into a group of old school Pool in Yates's that day who'd had a run in with the Bouncers pre Xmas I think, I wasn't there myself at the time but wasn't too far away .

Stockport as mentioned, twice. And when it was finally played we had at least two valid goals disallowed and lost 1-0.

A random one, but one I remember. Port Vale on a Friday night in February 1985 in our Promotion year under Sam Ellis. Still at school and was buzzing all day looking forward to going with a few lads from school on the Supporters Club Coaches . We had to ring the club from a phone box outside school at dinner time to get the bad news the game was off due to a frozen pitch.

Mansfield away in early/mid eighties. Got off the train in Mansfield to see on newspaper hoarding that the game had been postponed the day before due to illness in Blackpool squad. Oh for those pre-internet days.

Remember going all the way to Huddersfields new ground only for the fog to descend.

not a postponement but when the coach to Bristol failed to arrive under Macca due to a breakdown felt disappointing.

Liverpool in the Prem. Home for Xmas, and we get the first significant snow in the Fylde Coast for a generation. Had to work in London all through Jan to 9pm so never got the chance to see us do the double. Deeply frustrating given the opposition.

Remember must have been about 89/90ish leaving work early one midweek in depths of winter to go to Chesterfield I think!! Match snowed off so we looked for an alternative game to go to that was on that night! Tried Buxton on way back but match also off. Ended up at Goodison Park watching Everton play somebody. Crazy days😆

West Brom at home around 1981. Left the Coliseum Bus Station around 8.30am and everything was clear but when we arrived in Leeds at 12 the game had been called off for a waterlogged pitch. No radio,no moblies, internet etc just a long walk to ER wondering where everyone was 😝

York away many moons ago wet and windy Tuesday night got to the ground only tone told it was off
Almost ditto, but the York game I went to was supposed to be Disco Pants last game for us between the sticks , but was called off to a frozen pitch. ( and under copious amounts of snow ).

Not a called off game but remember going to Luton back in the 70's - think we either drew 0-0 or lost to a Futcher penalty. Most games that day were called off and the away end suddenly filled up with Spurs and ManU fans whose games had been called off late and were travelling back. Got a bit lively.

Stoke away FA Cup 1965. Called off very late due to a waterlogged pitch. Played 2 days later which I again travelled to
and wished I hadn't .....we lost 4 1. Annoyingly the winners played Man U in the next round.

Wolves at home in January 1961. Kicked off and you couldn’t see the half way line from the Kop end! Abandoned after 9 minutes which meant there were no refunds! Very annoying cos it cost 1 shilling and 3 pence for a junior! Cheung Chi Doy made his debut. Didn’t see much of him! 🤣

Went on the train to that Aldershot game, only found out it was off as we were walking out of Aldershot station. Went for a drink with the Paras in the Prince Of Wales and fucked off home gutted.

Derby County away, FA cup replay in the mid 70s at The Baseball Ground. I got my Mum to collude with me by backing me up for throwing a sickie at school (I was 16 yrs old), and I had bought a ticket for the supporters coach to go on my own. The coach set off, can’t remember how far we got but it wasn’t very far, it then turned round as the game was postponed.
Next day at school the form tutor said he would take stern action if I was ill on the rearranged date....well rumbled...didn’t get to the replay which turned out to be a cracker I recall.

Yes, my son and I also turned up at York for that to find the ground shut up and it off. There had been nothing on the radio whilst we were travelling

On the flip side.... so glad man utd in prem was called off as I was away in Mexico... the only game I have been to and called off was Norwich when the heavens opened.

Remember freezing day for Halifax away.. pitch inspection at 12 ish... we got train at 9am and thought sod it... had a great day and eventually game was given the go a head.

Remember that, we booked a coach for the lads from St Joes. Coach dropped us off and departed so we were left to wander around for 3 hours, needless to say, interesting times!

Plymouth v Blackpool in the 1967/68 season. Left the Supporter‘s Club at 11.30 on the Friday night in the Ossie & Shep coach, got to Plymouth Town Centre at 10.30 am, raining very heavily. Locals told us there was a pitch inspection, we made our way to the ground, pitch was completely waterlogged in one goalmouth. Game called off so we made our way back and got back to the Supporters Club just in time for last orders.

Agree, very embarrassing. At the time I was working in Manchester with a few United fans. They couldn't understand it at all.
When the match was rearranged, one of them asked how much the tickets cost in the 2nd tier of our stand!!!

And one that was played which perhaps shouldn't have been was Burnley at home in a howling gale (mid-week night game IIRC), can't remember the year. The ref played on despite protests from both sides during the game, which Burnley somehow won 1-0

The refs name was Lee Mason; I believe there's a separate thread dedicated to how shite he is/was.
Think that was 2009. I wasn't there but I believe it was so windy that every time their goalie went to take a goal kick the ball blew away.

That game was my first away game. Got to the ground loads of pool wandering about to be told game off waterlogged pitch. Didn't go to the rearranged game glad to say.

Mine was the Orientation game ,,,just came out of tube station ,,,to a sign saying game postponed,,,,good job I only came up from Dorset ,,,,

The Orient game in the early mid 90’s was a late call off - after 2pm.
Owen Oyston came in the supporters bar bought everyone a drink.

That was an unforgettable day! Had a heavy BASIL lunchtime session close to the ground and on the way out of the pub I met a friend who said the game was off. My heart sunk as I was looking forward to a 2 hour respite from drinking.
The day just got silly. Later we went to a dodgy East End gangsters pub, where we were dancing on the pool table! Then we went for a pub meal in the West End and, unknown to me, my mates (RIP Mark Chandler) had put my white bait starter in my coat pocket. I didn't find out until Monday and it took me 20 years to eat white bait again!🤮

Accy away a couple of seasons ago

Hotel booked for the Friday night and i checked with them before we set off and it was on

Called off on the morning of the game

Last season. Had train tickets to Shrewsbury & Peterborough away and 4 Match tickets for Shrewsbury. Season ends because of Covid, pain in the arris trying to get my money back.

Many years ago i drove to Scarborough to watch a game and when i got there, the pitch was just a blanket of snow. ☹️

Yep. December 1976. Winning 1-0. I was sat in the South Stand, you couldn't see The Kop.
I think it was relatively late in the game as I'd snuck in to SE corner, as they used to open gates quite a bit before the end. Again could be my memory conflating two diff games.
