Your Spurious BFC connections

Me and the family had a night out with Wes Hoolahan and his family in Lytham. Oyston wanted him to stay at Blackpool so he gave him his credit card to pay for the night out. So Wes and his family, (about fourteen all together) had a few bets at the bookies, bought cocktails for everyone, paid the restaurant bill, then he told Oyston he’d decided to move to Norwich.
Don't want to brag BUT
Played in the same Sunday League Team as Alan Suddick, Glyn James, Terry Alcock, Ricky Sbrigia, Stan Ternant, Dennis Wann and Stu Parker ( used to give Suddy a lift home to Orkney Ave after The Boars, surreal drinking with your idol )
Worked with Jeff Chandler for a couple of years who is a top, top, fella.
Col Greenall has out drunk, out golfed and out snookered me on many occasions.
I'm the luckiest Blackpool fan alive especially Glyn and Suddy x

Edit to add

Played with John Butler at Wrens....sorry John !
And Mark Thompson, Steve Thompson's brother.
Played Sunday junior football with Mark Thompson Les. He took a great penalty & made it through to the semi finals at Turf Moor back in the 70's when there was a junior penalty shoot out at Wembley on FA Cup final day.

Dave, back when I was a kid, I used to help my older cousin deliver newspapers. He told me that one of the addresses we delivered to was Stan Mathews house. I have always treasured the thought that I stood on his doorstep. It was a house in a street off St. Annes Road. Was my cousin having me on ? This would have been circa 1964.
M, SMs house was on the corner, left going South, of one of the roads off Sr Annes Rd.
Can't be sure now which one it was.
I must take a trip down to remind myself which one.
As I remember it was a detached house.

Steve Harrison's mum worked in my dad's shop. He passed on loads of freebies for away games. Lovely lad.

Chris Basham asked my daughter for a date. She turned him down as he was "too ugly".

He gets a bad rep, but on a night out some years ago in the residence in Poulton, I chatted to Keigan Parker for a good half an hour. He was actually a decent lad. We spoke about his goal at Wembley and at the time he was on the verge of leaving Blackpool and he mentioned a few clubs who were interested in him.

Thought he came across quite well despite the stories of him being an arrogant .....

When I was younger I knocked around with Jamie Burns cousin and I use to baby sit Jamie and his younger twin brother and sister. His mum and dad are Stuart and Sandra.

I was working as a doorman at the peppermint lounge on the front door and a drunk Jamie Burns turned up late trying to give it the billy big bollox forcing his way in. I wouldn’t let him in so he drove of and got pulled instantly that was when he was done for drink driving.

When I was a sales rep at Longfellow Stuart Parker was my manager and he could sell snow to eskimos.

I was in the same year as Chris Beach. I hated most people at school but Chris wasn’t one of them.
Fr33jack, I was in the school year below Chris at Larkholme. Always thought he was a good lad too.

Nice to see this thread bumped.

My old man worked at the club for years. Very proud to have Thommo, Danny Coid, Matty Blinks and Ginge at his funeral last year.

I also once saw Keith Walwyn in BHS.

I helped to install air ducts (as an apprentice) in the new West and North stand! Forgot about that one 😄

Summer of 1954, Tower ballroom, this strange looking guy in a Blazer asked my mum to dance and she turned him down . Later the same evening, My dad asked her to dance and she agreed to. They were subsequently married for 65 years until mum passed away in 2020. It was only just later that she realized the weird guy was Owen Oyston

Lovely lad Colin and the Butler boys.

Ray Charnley decorated our lounge and staircase. Somerville Ave., South Shore. I did some of the skirting boards, he did the high bits. My Dad just made him tea all the time and wanted to talk football. RC just wanted to get the job done.

My dad took me when I was 8, that was 1950. Stood at the front of the east stand right next to the Kop. Matthews, Mortensen, Mudie, Bill Perry etc.. he never took me again, or indeed ever went again himself. That was it for me and as soon as I could afford tickets, I went.

Played along side a young Billy Ronson in a team called Evington 68/69 season more recent times I was at a friends 60th birthday party and he introduced me to his son in law Alex Baptise

Was on the mighty's books as a schoolboy (1966 ) then as an amateur they already had their requirements of apprentices so couldnt sign anymore . Trained every tues and thursday night for over 3 years .at squires gate and Bloomers in winter months . 3 games for B team paddy sowden , looked after us then The only player I can remember who also trained with us who made the 1st team was Dennis Wann . Also in the same town team (1966) as Steve Harrison . HAPPY DAYS .

In the early 70s most of the players used to come into mu mums sweets & tobacconists on Lytham Rd to buy their cigarettes.

Played tennis and football with Billy Ronson.
Kev Moore came up to me in the `Buccaneer` pub to ask about a mutual friend.
Phil Clarkson often delivers our mail.
Dereck Spence has been to my house - I gave him some old `Shoot` football magazines which he was interested in.
My son turned down BFC academy to join another one.
Used to do business with Dave Bamber.
Played in the same team with loads of ex-players (I suppose a lot of players did - there seemed to be a lot of ex-pros playing locally)...

I used to be pals with Billy Cartmel's grandson. My sister was pals with Harry Potts' daughter at school. David McNiven was my milkman for a while, in the 80s, when I lived in St Anne's.

I have a similar link Voy
Wayne Entwistle was my milkman when I lived in Bury.
Also, (when I was in the Police) I went to a disturbance at a pub in Bury and as I got there Trevor Sinclair was there so had a quick chat with him when it all calmed down. Trev was an innocent customer by the way.

Our neighbours in the 70's, Jewish couple, had 5ft nettles covering the whole back garden & a ferocious alsation called Winston.
BFC left back Steve Harrison trained our junior football team & was friendly with our mum & dad (his wife Christine was my first crush 🥰).
Me & my brother were playing cricket in our back garden. Steve played one off a bouncer over the neighbours fence. We began to trudge off thinking that was stumps when Steve hurdled the fence to retrieve the ball. Two enormous ears headed towards him through the nettles 🙈.
Bat in hand, he played the shot of the day right between Winston's ears. Found the ball and one of England's future coaches returned safely to continue our game.
My brother went for a golden duck, I went on to make my maiden test century (artistic licence) 😏

Was quite good friends with the son a certain one club only blackpool player, spent a lot of time at thier house.

Ian Hesford ued to live on my street along with two or three other blackpool players, think it was a blackpool club residence.

Terry Alcock was on my paper round.

Used to play footy with the Butler brothers on the airport fields as a kid. Used to get chased off whenever a big plane came in to land.

Most spurious connection. When I was at college in Yarkshire I lodged for three months with a guy and his son. The guy was a furniture restorer and used to live in Lancaster and knew Ray Charnley quite well, having done a bunch of work for him.

another Dave Durie link, Mr Durie was avery well liked & respected PE teacher at My school (Palatine) he was a real gentleman in every sense of the word & all the kids loved him! i played right back for the school team & he arranged a 6 week trial at Chester City, Sadly nothing came of it, obviously not good enough! but it was very exciting time & fantastic experience 'ive never forgotten!

I sold an insurance policy to Fred Barber in the early 90's I had no idea who he was but I don't think he was exactly our first choice keeper.

Mike Sheron (played in the BFC football league trophy final 2004) lived in Lymm, Warrington & did his coaching badges with my best mate.
We went out for a pint & I bored him to death with questions about his time at BFC. He couldn't understand why I was so interested when I lived in Warrington!
I even asked him why the team coach, on it's way back from Walsall (we were behind it on the M6), came off at Knutsford. He told me the players arranged the best location for them to be picked up & dropped off.
When we lived in Blackpool, more than once we met & spoke to Blackpool players. To name a few: Thommo in Sain's (his mum worked in the Brian House charity shop in Bispham). Wes Hoolahan in Boots Blackpool & St Annes, Evvo in Lytham, Andy Priest & Baps in Houndshill, Crainey in JD Sports. Mike Flynn (ex Oldham) in Smiths. Every one of them were very friendly & genuine nice guys.

Holidayed in Blackpool every year as a youngster at Mrs Warnock’s Boarding House in Reads Avenue. Now bring the extended family down to St Ives Hotel in St Annes and try to attend a match every year.

Used to live across the road from Owen Oyston when I was a boy. Vicky wasn't particularly diligent at drawing her curtains........

So your connections to Blackpool FC - could be went to school with a player, relative has something to do with the club, fitted a tap there, was a Golden Gamble seller etc

So I'll kick off - Jamie Burns has just decorated my Mum's house 😁
Great thread, though they're not spurious. They could be tenuous.

I share the same birthday as Gordon Simmonite. Thursday of this week as it happens.....

I woke up in the bed next to Derek Spence in Grimsby Hospital. he was carried off during the game with a busted leg. I got twatted in the bogs by some Grimsby Hoolies.

I was in the same college class as Glynn James's lad. Hello Ian.

Derek Spence is a regular at the club I bowl for, great bloke.

I have a cheeseboard that was originally a tip-up seat from the old West Stand, salvaged when the stand was demolished about 25 years ago.

As that stand was in use for about 70 years, I sometimes wonder how many ar*eholes have rested upon it!

It’s still a lovely piece of wood.
