Your Spurious BFC connections

I used to work with the family who were related to Harry Evans (ex Blackpool manager). Their company used to do the work at the old BR along with other local businesses and his boss used to sit on the FL disciplinary panel at Lytham St Annes.
He very kindly let my old man have tickets for a Wembley final but we missed out on 1972 and went the following year, when Sunderland beat Dirty as their fans often remind us of.

So your connections to Blackpool FC - could be went to school with a player, relative has something to do with the club, fitted a tap there, was a Golden Gamble seller etc

So I'll kick off - Jamie Burns has just decorated my Mum's house 😁

Met Stephen Crainey down the baked bean isle in Morrisons, Talked to Tom Ince whilst waiting to pay for petrol in Morrisons and had a good conversation with Chris Basham in Pets are Us does this count?

I was born in the same hospital ward as Jimmy Armfield and like him, moved to Blackpool as a child

I worked at the old St Annes Hotel n the kitchen and Sir Stanley Matthews always asked me to make his omelette.🍽

Later I was Assistant Manager at the Carlton Hotel where Stanley Mortenson and his wife Jean were regulars in the cocktail bar.🍻🍹

I was about ten years of age at the time and travelling on the train to London with my dad to see the Pool play.
The players were in the next coach and as I wandered through to the toilet came across four of them playing cards, I stopped and watched them for a minute or two. At the opposite table were four more players including Harry Johnston, who saw I was wearing a rosette asked me if I wanted to be a footballer when I grew up, no I said I want to be a train driver and the four of them just laughed.
I have lived my life regretting what I had said that day as I love football and did manage to play amateur level.

Trevor Sinclair spilt beer in my apartment whilst on Holiday in Tenerife shortly after Play off win against Scunthorpe.

Forgot about that one.😁

In the 50s players used to get telegrams when they were picked for their Country. Took quite few, one I remember was George Farm when Scotland were playing England. I asked how he felt about playing against his team mates. he said It doesn't matter as long as I'm playing. Lovely guy.
Had a summer P/T job at Tudor Bingo(old central Station) Jean Mortensen was in the cash office, Morty used to come in regularly to see her. Stan always had a new joke to tell. Whilst there Tony Green and Tommy Hutch came in when TG had his leg in plaster, had a good talk and laugh.
Took many telegrams to Stan Matthews, always invited me in and gave a tip.
Remember asking Morty about that famous free kick at Wembley (1953), he said that he placed the ball down, stepped back for a run and as he was running he spotted a gap at top left corner so he just blasted it. Equaliser.
The rest, as they say, is history.

As a kid Trevor Sinclair and Niall Quinn lived a couple doors down from us, Matty Kay lived opposite.

My dad once worked for a company who did business with a company that Dave Bambers dad worked for.

  • Dave Tonge took a training session when I was playing kids footy for Our Lady JFC
  • Emlyn Hughes presented me with a trophy at a kids footy presentation evening
  • Played on the Hallowed Turf in a schools 5-a-side game before a match (can't remember which match though)
  • My mum was PA to the Chairman of Easywear when they sponsored The Mighty (does that count lol?)
  • Played 6-a-side in Birmingham against Neil MacKenzie when he was supposed to be injured - when I approached him after I recognised him, he asked me not to tell McMahon which was funny...as if I had a line to the manager...he did seem genuinely concerned though! 😆

I played in the same u14 and u15 youth football side as Mark Bonner (Euxton Villa) till he joined Pool on the YTS. His sister was in the year below me at our 6th form college. She was very fit.

Steve Walsh (Micky's brother) was our football coach at St Toms/All Saints.

Fred Scott (Coach under Alan Ball at BFC) in early 80s was sacked with Bally etc....I was training at BFC at the time while also doing a YTS course learning how to build bicycles...anyway I couldn't believe it when in walks Fred( he took any job he could get quickly) when he saw me he rolled his eyes and I could tell he was thinking...Bloody hell...think he was a bit embarrassed.

Steve McMahon once told me to **** off when I told him the team had been crap at Notts County when I walked past him getting on the bus!

Ended up on a night out with Keigan Parker after he drove back from an away game just to make the Christmas Tree Ball at the Tower. It was sad at the time, and I’d sad now.

What pet was Chris Basham buying or buying for?
