Your weakest claim to fame?

As I've stated on several occasions to absolutely no acclaim at all - I played for the same school team as Pool loan legend Neil Whitworth, albeit 5 years below him.

What's the most tenuous claim to fame you have?

(Doesn't need to be Pool related as obviously, not all of us can claim to have walked in the footsteps of the stars like I did)
Dave Chisnall and his family got in the carriage next but one behind us on the Wallace and Gromit ride at the Pleasure Beach

and I saw Ian Evatt in Squires Gate Morrisons car park during the prem season.

Appeared on 15-1 about 23/24 years ago.
I was No.1. When it started the Q/master said 'David.....' He was interrupted by a technical fault.
Eventually we got going and after the first two rounds I was in but the next 6 were out.
Of course I was the target, they all seemed to aiming at me. I must have answered more than the rest put together.
I managed to get to about the last 5 or 6 but then was out.
I once ended up in the same dyke as Ian Krankie.

Playing Poulton GC, we both hit our ball into the narrow ditch that separates the 1st and 8th fairways - I forget who was playing which hole. They were on summer season in town and were there most days. We had junior contracts and were there every day.

They'd done a season covering the Marathon section of It's A Knockout, after Eddie Waring. So it was that year, possibly 1981. As we searched vainly through the undergrowth, I plucked up the courage today, saw you on telly the other night. Aye it was bloody freezing he replied.

I wish to distance myself from rumours that I hit in there deliberately so I could meet him
Emlyn Hughes refused to sign my Blackpool programme at Stanley Park celebrity It's a knockout. Alan ball had signed it but Emlyn wouldn't leave the bar. Andy Gray who had just signed for Wolves for a record fee dragged him out physically and told him in no uncertain terms that he should sign my programme. He did.
Emlyn Hughes quote after retirement " The Kop at Liverpool they sung my name at every home game but I never acknowledged them." Seems he did not have much time at all for fans.

Was in a box at Silverstone for British Grand Prix ( guest 🤣) ..and the people in the next box did look a bit familiar, ..but was having a few scoops and watching the racing. I was at the front close to the fencing close to the track watching through my binoculars, when this kid from the next door box asked to have a look through them. He handed them back to me, rather too quickly, with the quip .." they're not very good are they ?"
My pals just came up to me and said ..you just been insulted by William ...future king of England.
Looked back over the joining fence and spotted Lady Di et al
🤦🤯

Not mine - my wife's
She was at the Palace when "Hit Man and Her" were filming - Jason Orange (of Take That fame) was one of the dancers on stage (before TT obviously) and was doing some kind of breakdance spinning on his back thing and kicked her in the head - she was on telly and everything as she went flying 🤣

I used to work with the Mum of Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople fame.
Wiz, do I know you?
I am a friend of Bob, Ian Hunters brother.
Haven't heard from Bob in a long time but he did live in Wales at the time.
Actually met Bob at Prebonds in the 1960s.
Smashing guy.

My uncle is Terry Allcock of Norwich City fame, he’s there second highest scorer and would of been number one but he played his final two seasons at the back ( his opinion!) . Absolutely brilliant Fella and love talking to him about his playing days.

My parents had two trainees from Leeds United stay with them, both eventually making debuts for Leeds. Tommy Knarvick was one and the other was Welsh international Matt Jones who eventually was sold to Leicester for about 3 million but was medically retired after breaking his back at Anfield.

I am mates with Jim Melrose the ex Celtic, City , Leeds and charlton player

Was at school with Eddie Grays daughter Kirsty who was lovely.

I was doing a charity day for work in a forest near Wilmslow around 2008. As I was pushing the wheelbarrow, a bloke walked past with his dog, and I said to my mate - that's Deitmar Hamman. My mate agreed it was, though we weren't 100% sure.

Terry Cooper (Leeds Utd) gave my elder brother his shinpads after a match in the 70's. He then gave them to me and I wore them throughout my whole junior football career, and then had them nicked on my first open age game at age of 16 😡

Yep me too. But you've already done it so it doesn't count!

He was the reason I started playing golf. Mr Moss organised a series of lessons with the North Shore pro of the time, Rigby? It was certainly years before Brendan went there from Royal Poulton.
Taught me as well. Also had golf lessons with him at lunch and after school at the back of the old ATC hut to brush up my skills while playing for Knott End juniors 👍
Grand bloke👍

That sounds exactly the same setup as I attended NH. What year were you?

Didn't Mr Moss play for Wales back in the day? I know he was a very good standard golfer.

Don’t know about the Wales thing but my dad played in Lancs league at the time and said TM was top notch. 1974-1979 attended Baines.

Terry Allcock yes does he know there is a clip on You Tube showing him missing a pen for Norwich in a FA Cup game?🤔

Ah OK. I was 77-82. I think you'd be in the same year as my friend's brother - they were our neighbours for years. Steven Shaw.

Yes, he said he wasn’t that keen on taking pens! He was also assistant manager with Ron Saunders at city and he’s on YouTube running on the pitch during the league cup final against wolves (1977?) . He’s got Denis laws shirt from the game.

One of the student nurses I trained with, was the cousin of Robson Green.

From her bedroom window, in Morecambe, my mum would often see a then unknown Eric Bartholomew, loitering in the back alley, waiting for his girlfriend…

Ruud Gullit was running on the spot in Drakes swimming pool in the ‘90’s. He smiled at me and said hello.

My dad and his sales team did a ‘northern’ clog dance at a business event down south that Bob Monkhouse was hosting. He was amused apparently 😀

Me too, but gave it up after a few years.

Years ago, I was in a bar in the West End of London after work and Patrick Murray, who played Mickey Pearce in Only Fools and Horses, was in there. Sat and chatted with him for at least half an hour - lovely bloke!

Also, I was the official photographer for the Charlton Vets Team and knew them all really well. Recently, on the ward that I work in at our local hospital, one of them was in there for a couple of weeks and we swapped numbers and have kept in touch! He remembered me from the Vets game days!

Worked weekends as a waiter at the Norbreck Hydro early 1960’s when still at school. Chelsea were staying there and Tommy Docherty asked me to nip out to the shop and get him some ciggies!
Gave me a good tip so was a fan ever since!

I saw Hayley (of Hayley and Roy) from Corrie in the swimming pool at centre parks on two different holidays.

Literally bumped into Angela rippon..1985 Heathrow airport, me aged 16, there was a kinda moment between us…brief we said our apologies ( like us brits do) ..and then moved on…she was a bit of a looker in them days as well …..😃
Triggered a memory of mine there, bumped into Walter Matthau at Gatwick airport in 1986. He signed the 10 of spades for me which I have to this day.

Getting Frank Skinner to agree that wiping his arse on the World Cup Trophy (Fantasy football -Baddiel and Skinner) wasn't really a good idea. Wembley concourse, England game many years ago 😂😂

At the time it seemed the right thing but now I think I would do exactly the same thing 👍👍😁

Lots of tenuous ones...

Have had a piss next to Bob Mortimer and Bryan Robson (not at the same time).
Held a door open for Clint Eastwood at his Mission Ranch.
Was on fantasy football audience and Frank Skinner took the piss out of my blackpool top.
Played a 1:2 with Alan Ball with a signed footy from a night at the club.
Played golf with former PFA chairman Gordon Taylor.
Finally got bought a bottle of champers by Larry.
