Crewe v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 17.10.20

Some good points that half. Bad points, no real shots and no running beyond the strikers.

Felt sorry for Madine with that late cross he received. Perfect for him to nod bac and no bugger anywhere near.

We’re keeping the ball very well, but that doesn’t seem like a challenge today as Crewe seem like a poor side to be honest.

Shame about Garbutt, back four have done what they needed to well, which wasn’t much.

Grant Ward, I just don’t get it at all.

Robson neat tidy but been largely anonymous.

I’ve had question marks about Williams but for me he’s played very well in that first half. Broke up play well, and knew he just needed to lay it off.

CJ looks dangerous with out actually being dangerous.

Madine similar to CJ we’re able to hold the ball up well.

Yates cuts a frustrated figure.

Crewe commentators making the point that their manager will be pleased, visitors so dominant and not really made the home goalkeeper work
I have the Crewe commentary as well -- they are ten times better than R. Lancs with Chisnall.

They commented early on that Blackpool are expending a lot of energy with their high-press tactics, and would they be able to keep it up for the whole game?

And he realised it as well. Controlled it really well and then we went back again. Control, control, control but we just can't go for the jugular. Marvin looking composed.

Hope I don't curse him.

Big second half. Crewe have been poor first half but we have played pretty well so limited them. Expect Mitchell to be tested this half. I would get Lubala warmed up and ready to replace Yates/Ward.

Crewe look like a poor side because we are making them look poor. Towards the end of the first half we eased off and they began to string some passes together.

Pretty football with no end product. With the possession we've had, we should be at least a couple up. Without wanting to point to individuals, what was Ward trying to do on 22 minutes, shooting about 10 feet wide from around 30 yards when there were runners heading towards the goal? Very frustrating.

Funny how we all see things differently. Yates looks good and I can see a goal kicking him on. He needs to see more of the ball.

Madine flicks it on, sometimes holds it up, other times it’s like bouncing a ball of a wall. No pace and doesn’t close, little real threat unless it’s bits & pieces.

Williams has done ok.

To be fair Yates was unlucky with a good shot. Defender knew nothing about it. Need a bit of luck at the moment.playing some really good football.

I wasn't listening but that is what I was thinking - we are playing a high press and putting a lot into closing down
Against Lincoln we dominated up until about 70 minutes and then we were all over the place.

Crewe have put a couple of good long balls forward that caught our defence out. Let’s hope they learn from that or it will be 75% possession and loose 1 nill

That's the danger. We're playing like the home team and they're trying to hit us on the break with long balls.

Best 1st 45 in a league match so far. But yet again nothing to show for it. Lovely play in the build up but same poor decision making in the final third.

What a shame Garbutt went off. Mitchell is a shadow of him. But promising. CJ and Madine have tried hard but Yates again has frustrated and yet to show his worth.

And Williams has been great. Really surprised me. Very solid and accomplished.

The whole squad is playing well - my only issue is Ward who does seem to take a touch too many and seems to take an age to make a decision and then takes the wrong one. He's not had a bad game, but he's too slow mentally to be effective in the final third. Madine, Williams and Robson have been great. Yates looks very dangerous when playing more centrally, but has been linking up well so far. CJ looks like he's ready to pounce at any point - we really just need a little luck

I'll be the first to hold my hand up and say Williams has done well in what I think is his natural position.
Goal Machine is holding the ball up well. Doesn't bother me we play inside out but we should swap during the match several times.
We still lack a goal threat worryingly. No shots saved by either keeper.

I've literally just written that in my notes for my blog. Will Critch keep it exactly the same or will he gamble a bit - swap wings etc?

It's true about opinions TT, I think madine has done well but needs support closer to him once he has held it up.

Interesting second half coming up because I cannot see Crewe being as passive.

This Crewe commentator is doing my head in whenever they’ve got the ball slightly in our half he sounds asif they’re about 6 yards out about to score
