Wand of a left foot

We've had posters on here saying Garbutt is a poor signing. Even today. It's hilarious really. Fraggle Rock football analysis.
We could sign Maradona, Messi, Ronal...OK forget that one, not good enough, but if they only play one game a they are a complete waste.

Lets see how may Garbutt racks up first. He's here at the age of 27 with a bit of injury history for a reason.

Plus he was playing against his home town team and will have had mates on stepladders outside.

Understand your approach but he impressed me. When a player comes on after not being in the picture, and impresses....there's nothing else you can ask.

Never mind Ronaldo not being good enough. Maradona is not alive enough

I'm just saying we haven't seen enough of him yet, but it hasn't stopped him being labelled a poor signing, and now someone with a magic wand that we need to keep fit. Opposing conclusions reached with the barest evidence.

Ward and Dougall and Mitchell also have an injury history,
Sometimes the risks pay off

I am suprised Garbutt was left on for 90 minutes, makes him less likely for Tuesday.

I would rather have given him 60 minutes and start him Tuesday.

Watched him for a while was over the moon when we signed him. He is quality.

The wand comment was by Chizzy

Evertonian mate slated him when we signed him. He is a good judge of players usually. Very wrong this time.... from what I have seen today he is actually rather good.

They have brought him back slowly building up his fitness, he looked comfortable not blowing or anything, think good to get 90 minutes in him.

He’s a more dynamic option than Husband, and seems to have the left foot that was touted - I hope he keeps getting better and becomes a star of the season. However I see no reason to be happy with his performance and then declare Husband gone and forgotten. Some did the same with Mitchell after a bit of shaky defending, who I also think has a good chance of going on to be an excellent player for us.

Same with Turton and Gabriel - I really rate Gabriel, wish he was a permie and obviously he’s the more exciting choice, but I think we’ll find when we’re in a real battle against a decent attacking team certainly Turton and maybe Husband will have jobs still to do at BFC. It’s a squad game, especially this season.

UTMP!

Agree verbatim

When he signed, my Ipswich supporting mate said ‘great delivery but not a good defender’. Seems like he’s already proven the first part correct.

I'd put Gabriel and Garbutt in on Tuesday. They both did well today. However, I'd have both Turton and Husband on the bench. If the two new boys get roasted by Portsmouth then we can bring the old lags on to tighten things up.
If Gabriel and Garbutt get roasted what chance for Turton and Husband? For me G&G should be first choice full backs going forward

Not sure what that means. There's a doubt about G & G's defensive capabilities against better opposition, Ipswich being a case in point. Turton has mostly done ok. Husband has had some spectacular cock ups but defends reasonably well a lot of the time. Playing the likes of Eastbourne and Harrogate means we can play attacking full backs who don't really do defending. Left back is a bit of a problem though - we brought in Mitchell and Garbutt but neither can do the defensive side, it seems. It's a tough call. Do you want Garbutt playing at the back worrying about his positional play and getting a challenge in etc, or on the front foot picking out strikers with his left foot?

I am not convinced that Turton or Husband are better defenders, heart in my mouth everytime Husband closes down a forward. Expect him to foul everytime. Turton works hard but again is not brilliant and his distribution is poor. With Ballard and the viking securing the 18 yard box would be happy with G &G giving us the width. The system could be better though with a 6 foot plus keeper who commands the box and comes for crosses.

I have suggested before, that Pool may yet play 3 at the back (Marvin, Ballard and Greta) with wing backs ( Gabriel and Garnett). They have a plethora of midfield player available to them, and can rotate in order to keep them fresh. Woodburn looked off the pace yesterday, and may not be match fit yet. Although all turned out well in the end, the first half was dire, and if they play like that on Tuesday, they’ll get turned over. The lad I like is Kemp; a non stop Duracell Bunny.!

Think early season we had no stability at CB, too many unforced errors & having two predominantly attacking full backs highlighted our frailties. Any two (or possibly three) from Ballard, Marv & Grets now should enable us to play Gabriel & Garbutt plus Dougal offers a decent shield to the CB's. Impressed by his positional play when the opposition break. Usually does enough to stop the forward ball & buys our full backs a bit of time to get back.

think we should put ballard and viking in i think they would complement each other and have better distribution from them too marv has too many mistakes in him

Yes, Marv is going backwards a bit. 😕 I may be wrong, but I think he's played every game. Give him a rest and recuperation break for a game or two and let's see how the Ballard/Viking partnership works.

It's scary messing about with your defence, but I don't think they'll let us down.
