Why are children given stupid names

Last weekend, a friend of the family attended a "naming ceremony" (used to be Christening but that's offensive now 🙁 ).
The baby boy was Kaiden and the baby girl was Nova. Heaven forbid.

Christening is not offensive its just not relevant if you are not religious, Kaiden is an old celtic name whats wrong with it. Same with Nova has its origins in Latin, but is also common in some of the non russian soviet states

So if you are religious, why are you attending a naming ceremony and not a Christening. Still think that Kaiden is stupid and Nova should remain in non Russian soviet states.

Gonville Bromhead VC. Won it at Rorke's Drift. Portrayed by Michael Caine in the film Zulu. Unusual name Gonville. Better than Zowie Bowie though😀

Naming patterns change. I’d rather be a Kaiden than a Terrance or Roger as a kid now.
Problem is nowadays that they aren't names but statements that make any sound minded person think "what the f**k is that.
Fred Hitch was nothing like he was portrayed in the film. He was a reserved character not a jack the lad type at all. Tough as old boots and as brave as they come.👍
Frederick if you please. :)

Or Moon Unit Zappa daughter of Frank Zappa. Who is now 53 years old, which shows stupid names have been around for a long time. It used to be, so called, stars who gave children stupid names. Now it’s usually the snotty nosed, scruffy oiks off the roughest estates.

So, dad’s from Scotland and mum’s a Russia? Logical.

He was also a member of the Temperance Association ( Teetotal ), and a well respected soldier even before the battle.
His family kicked off about the film’s portrayal.

celtic, might mean anywhere from scotland, wales, ireland, cornwall or the isle of man, as well as north west spain and northern portugal plus parts of france and germany. Nova is a latin word, and i said non-russia(n) sovietic nations the Name is used.

It gets progressively worse. At 34 in the top 100 is Arlo.
Picture the scene, "i'm popping to Arlo love, are we ok for bread and milk"

Some muppet named his kid Kavala would you believe. She can’t stand her name or the place and would rather take a tram to Fleetwood.😜

Prime example. For thousands of years it was Boadicea but now it's Boudicca, why ?
Because Knowledge and even historical perspective changes. Boadicea was a typo in the Middle Ages apparently. They now believe Boudicca was correct.

This is both interesting and a good read! It’s also as likely to be wrong as right, given how little we’re sure about.😀 seems it might be boudiga and that it might be a title rather than a name at all…I think her real name was Nova.

Tacitus wrote it as Boudicca, the Victorians popularised Boadicea from what is believed to be an error in medieval text, as Hill said.
The problem is, Tacitus only heard the name second hand, so ultimately he guessed at the spelling anyway. However, in old Gaelic, budig means victory, and budiga means a woman who brings victory. So not only is likely that we should call her Budiga, but also most historians think it was a title given to her during the rebellion, not her real name.

With her surname being Scotia.

And while we are at it, why are Opal Fruits now Starburst and a Marathon bar is now a Snickers.
ps: why have Wagon Wheels reduced dramatically in size and why doesn't Ginger Beer set your mouth ablaze anymore.

This one was admittedly in America, but I knew a chap who’d called his two boys, Ice and Maverick.

He claimed to have never seen Top Gun either. I have my suspicions.
