Blackpool v Fulham Official Matchday Thread 11.09.21

Another one on team news, Kenny Dougall and Tyreece John-Jules were both back in training today. Shayne Lavery has travelled back to England today, so he'll join back in with the squad tomorrow.

By all measures they should be too good for us, but I just have a feeling if the crowd make it intimidating and the sea air is blowing they won't fancy it. We will be their cold night in Stoke, we will swarm them like pitbulls, but pitbulls who miraculously know how to play football, we will win 2-1.

Went to this fixture on 21st September 1968. Aged 11!
Ended 2-2 and Pool had by then won 4 and drawn 6 of opening 10 league games!
That was building up to quite a lengthy unbeaten run as they had won the last 7 at the end of the 67-68 season!
I’d settle for 2-2 tomorrow.

Hoping the break has given time to integrate the new players into a better balanced side that knows the way forward.
We can win this.

Me too, finishing hopefully at 1.30 in Cleveleys, have to get changed, hoping to get there about 2.30, but you never know with the promenade and finding a parking space.
Get to Gynn square, turn onto Dickson rd, right onto queen street, left down the alley cross over Talbot rd, head down and turn right where Burger King used to be, left onto prom, first left then first right onto Bonny street, down to Lytham rd. Quickest north to south route on a Saturday if not technically legal.

I’m feeling fairly confident going into this game knowing we have a balanced squad, pace on both flanks and the athleticism to attempt to cope with Mitrovic. Fulham are clearly the better team and still likely to win today but we can give them a good game and with a bit of luck get a result. A loss today means nothing. I just hope our fans remember that. As long as the performance is there and we’re doing the right thing and making chances then I honestly don’t care if we lose. We’ve no right to compete with teams with the sort of finances Fulham have available. It’s the perverse nature or the Championship

Am I allowed to say I don't know? Hipefully they'll come with a 'well we're bound to beat Blackpool' attitude but I fear not, 1-3 Fulham Lavery who's in a fine run of form internationally.

Fulham, have had a billionaire owner for the past 8 years and have very recent Premier League experience, so they ought to whup us. But not by the 0-7 one of their jellied eel eating fans has forecasted. We’ve only recently escaped the clutches of the parsimonious, penny-pinching, cheeseparing Oystons and yet we’re playing in the same league as this lot. Hence, why shouldn’t we be able to put them to the proverbial sword? They don’t have a God-given right to win all their matches. Bournemouth, soon found out how resilient we can be. More of the same today lads. I do expect us to lose, but not by that much.

Looking forward to see if any of the new signings feature and how they can improve the team. Hope to see us get something out of this game but I will not think it’s a disaster if we don’t.
Come on you pool!

A narrow unlucky loss where the ref gives us nothing but cards. Sorry.

Or the turning point of a fine run of form.

Probably the former

I’d be mighty pissed off if we didn’t see at least one of our recognised RB’s playing this afternoon.

Gabriel has been playing for Forest so no excuses about match fitness.

Think having Gabriel back is going to be a huge difference to the general shape of play, I’m hoping Shayne is just a bit leggy rather than somehow still being third choice

Mmmm, 442 again with Keogh. I did think Gretarsson might have got a start today?
Lavery done some hellish travelling and played a lot of minutes in the last two weeks, I trust he’s resting rather than 3rd choice. The bench looks very strong again today, let’s hope we’re not chasing the game by the time they come on. Utmp

Lavery only trained yesterday after international duty, so I'm assuming that came into Critchley's thinking

Me:

Dougall had long distance travel to link up with the Aussie team so I presume that's why he's on the bench.
Surprised Sterling isn't starting though.

WTF. Internationals can play Wednesday and Saturday. 👎
Disappointed Sterling (arrived 100% fit according to NC), Kenny (didn't play for the Aussies) and the Viking (fit and a natural CH) aren't starting. Shayne probably being given a rest - but he'd want to play, so play him!
For me this isn't our best starting 11 but in Critch we'll have to trust.

Grets and husband should be ahead of Keogh.

We'll see. Looks like he has one eye on Tuesday - a very dangerous tactic if so.

You can’t just give out 6 debuts in one game and reset the small amount of cohesion we’ve developed so far this season. There’s a difference between your ideal line up and your best line up on a given day.

No doubt NC looking to Tuesday, but potentially on the back of a heavy defeat, the damage done? No point having a very strong bench against the best when the game is gone. Always start with your strongest team IMO.

I get what he’s done and why, with the internationals, but if change is needed, perhaps change to a back 3 with Sterling, Marv and Hubby or Viking, with Gabriel and James at WB.

Granted this would not be most fans first choice team, but it’s still very decent. They’re missing a few of their finest too, so it balances things out a tad. We’re still monster underdogs, regardless of who plays, but we‘ve still got very decent options on the bench. That hasn’t always been the case. ⚽️ UTMP
