Blackpool v Fulham Official Matchday Thread 11.09.21

I'm not half as worried about the Fulham match as I was on Monday and quite pleased with The Mighty Pool's dealings in the transfer window. Obviously, we never got our way in every deal, but I can't remember the last time we gave any player a four year deal, as more than half my 69 years were taken up by us having Chairman Billy Cartmell followed by The Oyston Family.

Marco Silva sides are not historically good at defending. Go at 'em fast in possession. Press hard out of possession in their half. If Goal Machine is fit he start should alongside Lavery and just try to bully them. Put Sterling in a back three and tell him his job is to outmuscle Mitrovic.

I've watched plenty of USA games and I can attest that Tim Ream (CB) and Antonee Robinson (LB) are nothing special in defense. Robinson is pacey and dangerous in attack, but he's weak in defense and at least for USA still lacks composure when put under pressure. Ream is experienced and slow; their Keogh. If we can get 11 men showing the toughness and intensity that our 10 showed against Millwall, we can get something from this one.

Silva plays a 4-2-3-1 and likes utilizing width. I expect we'll try to beat them with a packed midfield and a fast counterattack up the middle.

Maxwell
Gabriel, Sterling, Marv, Hubby, James
Dougall, Keshi, Stewart
Lavery, GM or Yates

Subs: Garbutt, Keogh, Wintle, Mitchell (if fit, otherwise Viking, but we don't need two CBs on the bench) Bowler, TJJ, Yates (if GM fit, otherwise Dale... but this is not the game to introduce him to the Championship)

Critch rarely introduces new players quickly, I think it'll be just the one at RB. I also think GM will be on the bench, unless he's been Genetically Modified in his absence.

Fulham look pretty good all over the pitch to me. They have Tosin Adarabioyo at CB, school friend of my daughter, who is Premier League quality. But let's hope we can get at their weak points. And repel their attacking players. If we beat this lot then we really have cracked it, I reckon.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if we turned them over. But realistically i don’t expect us to get anything from this game. Fulham will walk this division this year.

Another Bournemouth type game this, a bit of a free hit as I'm sure nobody expects us to get owt from this game against one of the best sides in the division.

3 points would be an amazing result, 1 would be great and 0 wouldn't be too heartbreaking. I'm hoping for a decent performance and I'll be happy.

They are too good for the Championship but not good enough for the Prem. It is, on paper, the toughest opponent, that said, it is quite often these sorts of games we play our best. Get stuck in, play with freedom and a win is well within us.

Could do with a huge unit of a centre forward to occupy the oppositions centre halves
that would free up Yates & Lavery to score the goals needed to continue the Tangerine Dream

Or a midfielder putting balls into gaps which our forwards can spurt onto giving them a one on one with the keeper.

I'll admit that I haven't actually watched them this season :)

Fulham will want to play football against us and beat us on the wings hoping to find Mitrovic in the middle. Play 3CB’s and WB’s and we should be able to manage their attack as much as anyone at this level. If our midfield can try get on the ball then it’s up to Jerry, Lavery, Bowler or Dale etc to find a moment of creativity up top

On paper, Fulham have cruised past teams so far this seaosn, scoring well and not conceding. It should be a routine 3-0 to Fulham, but you never know with us.
I predict a 2-1 loss, can't see many teams getting points off them this season.

I predict a win we are due a win and Fulham due a loss no team goes through the season
without losing. We have a capable squad and astute manager who will set the team up
to find and exploit Fulhams weaknesses.

I hope we play quick fullbacks and no keogh because they are quick. And the boys get some set pieces well drilled for these games, they seem to struggle with them

Get stuck into them they dont like it up them the southern softies
Make sure they know they have a game on their hands
Fancy a draw good luck

3-1 loss and no shame in it. One of their players worth more than our entire squad. Keep the score down to help goal difference

Disappointingly lots of tickets still for sale - weather looks good and we’ve not had a home game for a while.

Athers predicts a loss. That will do me!
Unfortunately I think he will be correct this time.

Honourable 2-1 unlucky 2-1 defeat.

John Busby is the referee on Saturday. He booked 10 (TEN) players in the Barnsley vs Coventry game a couple of weeks back.

Let’s hope our players who have been on international duty can recover in time. Shane gave everything as usual last night, Kenny will have possibly jet lag.

We could be without Dougall and Stewart, I guess? And Lavery may be on the bench. Not ideal!
