Reading v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 20.11.21

What a ** of a game.

Playing well enough to be in the lead yet comical at the back.

Just gifted Reading probably the game.

Unbelievable.

Need championship quality finishing and defending or you've got no chance.

Crap that. Reading will not score any easier goals this season. We are hopeless when we get in attacking positions. Apart from the two gimmes we've not had too much to do defensively. Better quality up front and we'd be back in this.

Get Anderson off at half time, he's having a shocker, and get Bowler on, Take off Carey (tactical only because he has been good) and stick Madine up with Yates.

The really frustrating thing so far tonight, like on Saturday, is that the opposition aren’t exactly Brazil 1970 either.

We have had 2 clear chances to score with Yates and Keshi yet they have scored 2 of the easiest goals you can see.

Pool dominant, punished for not defending a basic free kick, punished for Marvins mistake, other than 5hat Reading are wank. Anderson needs to spend a bit more time practicing his finishing, and stop lobbing the ball in the air to Jerry, he wants it to feet.

One missed by Jerry. Straight at keeper. One double save by their keeper. Two very good last ditch tackles also .. in the box by them

4 v good chances by us
3 attacks and two goals by them

What’s with the Hubby bashing, he’s not played in a long while. He’s showing good attacking intent, as opposed to turning back and side like Garbutt. Done nothing wrong defensively. Not perfect, but far from what’s being made out.
It’s unforgivable that someone with his experience can’t put in a better cross than that, with all the time he had an under no pressure.

The worst aspect is that Reading's defence is awful apart from Moore. We've had 6 or 7 good chances to score.

Summary, Reading defence has been outstanding, ours poor.
Still in this if we can get the next goal, Anderson having a mare.

Both Keshi and Mitchell should of scored, aside from the two sloppy goals we look very good, the next level for this team is to be better in the final 3rd, you never feel our crosses have real intent, our approach play is great and then we waste all the great build up, but it is something that is a recurring theme with us and you can be sure the coaching team will be working on it in training or looking to bring players i that can do better, for me improve that we could threaten the POs. Not a bad performance at all though!

This is where we miss a real quality prem loan.

We had Simms in league 1 and TJJ in the championship who's looked poor so far.

Oh for a loan who was scoring.

Maybe he'll come on and bag some goals ..... but not holding my breath.

Husband has been decent, yes it was a shit cross, but the conditions are shocking, other than that he has played well. Gabriel playing well too in attack but we have struggled at the back at centre right and right back, the left side has been solid.

We should be 2 up not 2 down.

Trying to play essentially 4 up top - Yates Carey then Anderson and Mitchell wide means we're so hurried, out manned and poor in the middle. I'm a 442 fan - boss midfield possession and make clever runs. We look like a pub team at the mo.

Reading can't be that lucky for the next 45 minutes - they've had the run of the ball, mostly and the 2 goals we've conceded were totally our own fault. Reading created little and do not look 2 goals better at all.

Grimshaw has played 110 minutes and let in four goals. Are the stats trying to tell us something?

I hope Critch is saving Stuart Moore for Saturday.

[Trying my best not to be grumpy.... but... 😡
He looked weak against city and let a goal go through him there.

Also is mostly good at passing out but gets it wrong now and then.

Was surprised when it was him over Moore.

Wrong choice on what I’ve seen.

weird first half, reading have had two chances and taken them. Big mistake by Marv, for the second, first one was just one of those goals. Could say poor defending, probably was, but hey ho.

still think we are showing enough to get something, the kind of game Madine might shine actually, keshi is a bit off the pace today, Mitchell looks lively, jerry as well. Carey is starting to come into it. might be tempted to introduce but for who god knows (or critch)

Reading are a good side, defensively though they look like they can be broken down.

It’s been awful so far, but I don’t think it’s bad enough to want TJJ on.🤣

Not saying he is answer but U can't blame grimshaw for either goal.. no chance with either.

Right Bournemouth part2... Next goal is the one

Keshi not playing well at all but the reason he didn't play at Forest was a family matter. Is it still playing on his mind ?
Has he come ba k too early?

Don;t agree. We really don't need to go long to Madine as we are not being put under any concerted pressure. Midfield getting plenty of time on the ball and we are running at their defence and opening them up. We just need to take two of the many chances we've created. Carey grown into the game really well.

We don't have the quality up front. Both Mitchell and Anderson in great positions with no end product. I reckon Dale will get a run out later.

We've played well. But...

It's a shame. Doing lots of things well but missing Maxwell and Lavery obviously. It's important imo to keep staying positive, identify the positives, and not just moan and capitulate. We are still learning, and missing good players too.
Can't keep saying we're missing x, there's enough of our sqaud available that we should be able to take some chances and the thing that's cost us is the defence with no-one missing.
