The January transfer window rumours thread.

VIP list...... That just means he was invited back to his old club where he was highly regarded and I'm sure he does a lot of these looking at young players. He will have had a good day out, seen lots of old friends and had the chance to get a good look at the Liverpool youngsters and the youngsters on the other side.

We are a very attractive proposition now for big clubs to loan out their top players and if we continue to be in or around the tp 6 we will be even more attractive.

I am convinced we will get Simms in January, hopefully on a permanent and then we are going to add another one or two. They don't have to come from the likes of Liverpool, look at Carey, Lavery, Dale & Wintle.

Tyreece Simpson. 19 yrs old. Just seen him score for Swindon on Quest channel. Bigger than Simms and looks a right handful. His parent club is Ipswich.

Christmas decorations are up in the garden centres now so no reason why we shouldn't start a January transfer rumours thread.
Here's one from Alan Nixon to start the ball rolling.

Not sure it's what we need tbh.
After them loaning us Woodburn, I would question how much help we have had from them. Expected far more, but Criches knowledge of players who featured against Liverpool U21 has helped enormously.

Don’t think we should loan players to develop them if they’re not significantly better than the ones we have. PL-clubs prolly have a clause to guarantee playing-time. Dujon and TJJ not playing at the moment.

Are we an attractive proposition for loan players anymore because how certain are we that we can guarantee them regular football which obviously the loaning club would want?
Of course there will be some very good players on the fringe of PL squads who would benefit from regular Championship football but would that spoil the dynamic of our squad?
If Gabriel maintains his form and stays injury free I wouldn't like to see Sterling replace him.
TJJ just hasn't impressed and I'm not sure if we will see him back in the squad.
Wintle is the loan success story and if we can't keep him that might be a spot to fill with a loan.
Dale isn't really a loan player. I'm pretty sure the deal to sign him has been done.
Simms would obviously be one to try and sign but failing that a loan deal would be second best and again a position where we could probably could do with an extra body.

If our reported interest in Jeando Fuchs was accurate, I can see something happening in January. He’s in the mould of Kenny and Wintle, and we need cover there, with Stewart being injury prone and Ward still out.

the Sterling one is an interesting case. He clearly came here to play and get game time and he looked really good when he's played. But Gabriel has put in a series of outstanding performances and deserves to keep his place at right back. It could be that if Sterling gets little or no game time he may ask Chelsea to recall him so that he can go out on loan elsewhere for the second half of the season.

On Simms, if he hasn't signed a new contract by January, do you think they will make him available for sale rather than loan? (and not just to BFC). They would get some sort of fee in the summer anyway because of his age. Despite him being in the squad for some earlier matches he has never looked like getting game time and that may be an important factor for him.

This one has some logic to it.

If Simms does return, Critch is going to have some very difficult choices up front. For me, Madine is comfortably the last choice of the options we currently have, when everyone is fit. I know he adds some physicality, but he significantly limits our options. I watched an old Derby v Cardiff game the other week, and nothing has changed.

I was surprised Jerry didn’t even get 20 minutes against QPR, when we were creating openings that he’d take advantage of. Not sure what’s going on, but I can’t see Jerry being happy with the situation, as he’s spent a lot of time on the bench this season. When Lavery is fit and if Simms returns, it’s going to be tough.

I don’t see Simms benefitting from a partnership with Madine, so for me it’d be a mix of Jerry, Lavery.

I would be gutted if we only sign him on loan and had to send him back again.

Permanent only please 🙏

We're lowed to have unrealistic dreams sometimes right?

He was only in the squad due to injuries and a lack of attacking options.

If he hasn't signed a contract by January, I to hope we will try to sign him permanently

Dont get why Madine gets so much stick - his contribution is massive and offers the team a hell of a lot

It would be great to bring Simms back in any form but would be a real statement of intent if it was on a permanent deal. I'd be gutted to see Stirling go back, he is an absolute unit and a great player, hopefully Critchley can find a way of keeping both happy.

There is, but it only takes an injury, suspension or a loss of form and Sterling is back in there. The way we collect knocks it could even be Swansea.

Hopefully the lad is being managed properly here with the usual 'your chance will come' and hopefully Chelsea can see the bigger picture and see he's a big part of a first team squad with all the trimmings that it offers.

I wouldn't want to see him go back- I think that asks questions.

Would love us to get Wintle permanent or at least till the end of the season.
A back up left sided centre back who will eventually take over from Keogh.
Another midfielder as back up
A big striker maybe Simms or if Critch knows of another I’d trust his judgment.

Really interesting one this - who do we actually need to come in? Maybe an alternative to Madine and off load those not in the squad?

For me I’d look for an extra physical striker (send TJJ home) and a defensive midfielder to cover Stewart and Kenny. That’ll be 2 if we lose Wintle.

We have a creative midfielder available soon in Ward and Carey is showing signs of being a good number 8/10 too

Two quality players for every position. Whenever we've have a load of injuries the team put out always seem fairly strong.

Re Liverpool loans, think Critch just wants to be seen doing it his way.

I am convinced the first deal we will tie up will be for Simms and he would have been here already if it wasn't for his injury. My guess is a loan with an option to buy in the Summer.

Unfortunate, but he’s not been 100% switched on. Maybe needs some time in L1 👍
Perfect loan in a way for Arsenal. They sent him to a club where he experienced defeats as the season started and then saw a young manager move the pieces and storm the table.
He experienced a loud and passionate crowd. He saw a kid from N Ireland who hadn’t had the luxurious training methods he had had, come in to a team and grab the opportunity with both hands.

He saw an old pro turn around the fans with the will to prove he could still cut it at 35, and the King of Shithousery who had half of his skill and pace, force his way into the team too with the desire to play a part and take his position in the team.

Ultimately Arsenal will know he was coached correctly and saw all he needed to, but didn’t have the mental strength or commitment to make it a success. It’ll be last chance saloon on his next loan.

This seems harsh but is spot on. His career has got a fork in the road approaching in January. Him not getting called up to England u-21s is a a blessing in disguise for him. He's got a fortnight to knuckle down in training and in front of Critch to prove he's got the heart and fight for the man's game.
